[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to the Point after show with Kyle Maurer, Marshall heslaw and Ian DeWitt. This is the show where the guys attempt to pick the winners of the weekly NFL games along with some healthy
[00:00:10] Speaker B: debate about current topics.
[00:00:12] Speaker A: Let's go. Hey.
[00:00:14] Speaker B: Hey. Marshall Heslaw in the studio. Hey, where you belong, my friend?
[00:00:19] Speaker A: I missed you.
[00:00:19] Speaker B: Welcome home.
[00:00:21] Speaker A: What's up, Ian?
[00:00:24] Speaker B: Crickets.
There is a crickets button, isn't there?
[00:00:27] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm not gonna use it. We're not. We're not in the used editing. Right? Yeah. Right now know. Producing. Not my thing. Ian, we miss you. Taking care of some stuff at home.
There's the crickets. Nicely done. I was out. Sorry about that, guys. Sorry to the listeners that wrote in a couple things me. Some of them are. Got held on to until today.
Some of them. They just didn't last. Sorry.
Totally my fault.
[00:00:49] Speaker B: Are you showing up with receipts? Do you have, like, scores to settle right now?
[00:00:52] Speaker A: I got to. I do have some scores of settle.
[00:00:55] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:00:57] Speaker A: We're not allowed to talk about Buffalo Bills. That's one thing I remembered from last week. Like, you guys, like, both vehemently agreed.
No Buffalo Bills talk until they win something important. But we keep talking about the Lions who can't stop, you know?
[00:01:12] Speaker B: Okay, okay. There might be some hypocrisy in that, but you understand where we're coming from, these perennially great teams that.
[00:01:20] Speaker A: But that's. I felt like that was kind of. That's like a lazy take to me. That's my one. That's my one. Like, I know Ian's going to get mad at me for saying that.
My one criticism from last week.
[00:01:30] Speaker B: Ian does.
Ian gets fatigued with the other team, the other 31 teams. You know, there's only so much. He's willing to talk about them anyway.
And he'll indulge us for a little while, to his credit. But if we try and talk too much about Non.
[00:01:48] Speaker A: He doesn't want to talk about Sam Darnold, is what you're saying.
[00:01:50] Speaker B: Like any of them. He'll go so far and then get tired of it and then get bored with it.
[00:01:56] Speaker A: And like, how about the admission that Honolulu Blue wasn't number one for Ian?
[00:02:00] Speaker B: I was a little taken aback by that. I didn't know what to say.
[00:02:02] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: Moment.
[00:02:03] Speaker A: Wait, isn't that. Isn't that the Lions?
[00:02:05] Speaker B: The Lions is the Honolulu Blue. He said he likes the kind of, like, baby blue.
[00:02:09] Speaker A: The baby blue. Yeah.
[00:02:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:10] Speaker A: I was like. I was kind of thrown off by that. I didn't expect to Hear that from
[00:02:13] Speaker B: a Lions fan, and I'm not even sure I agree.
[00:02:16] Speaker A: It just kind of was like a quiet moment during it. I was like, huh?
[00:02:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: It's between that and the Reggie Bush. Guess that made me, like, audibly giggle
[00:02:28] Speaker B: what you did as soon as you
[00:02:29] Speaker A: heard I was mowing my lawn. It's funny, you know, I missed. I missed our pod because I was asleep. I just have an awful sleep schedule. Mondays are tough for me.
We didn't need to empathize with me. Come on. I'm trying to get the listeners on my side.
[00:02:42] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:02:43] Speaker A: Obviously, you guys are on your side.
[00:02:45] Speaker B: You're going through a lot.
[00:02:46] Speaker A: You guys got two kids. You got six kids. Everything's happening. Marshall's got a dog. He's asleep on his chest. What's up? Right, Right. So I'm trying to get them on my side. And sleep schedule's been off.
[00:02:56] Speaker B: You're doing a great job.
[00:02:57] Speaker A: Monday, I was mowing the lawn. That was one of the things that didn't help me. But actually, this past weekend, when I was listening to the pod.
[00:03:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: I audibly stopped my lawn mowing and laughed out loud with headphones and at. When he said Reggie Bush, it was like. It was very well, because I just thought I was like, ooh. I don't know if that one really hit or. Then it was Robbie Gold. Robbie Gold.
Robbie Gold. I had to stop mowing. Like, I had to let go of my handle, and I had to walk.
[00:03:26] Speaker B: What?
[00:03:26] Speaker A: I had to, like, go.
[00:03:27] Speaker B: Come on.
[00:03:28] Speaker A: It was really funny to me.
[00:03:29] Speaker B: Why is that so funny?
[00:03:30] Speaker A: I don't know. It was just like, you know, we were looking for one side of the Pendulum, and it was the other side. It just. Maybe there were a couple of those that, like, just was like.
I did like that. You talked. He said, oh, this game, we're gonna try and make it like golf.
Right. Tim DeWitt. And then you're like, oh. Ian's like, I'm in. I'm in. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So those are kind of my critiques from the show. Other than that, I thought it was a solid show. Sorry I missed.
[00:03:57] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Glad to be back.
[00:03:59] Speaker B: We're gonna play the. The audience is clamoring for you to join the game. So next time, we're all three in the studio. We gotta play the game again.
[00:04:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:06] Speaker B: And see what you can do.
[00:04:08] Speaker A: I'm telling you right now, Jerome Bettis is getting drafted somehow to my team. I don't know how it's gonna happen.
Then you guys did the Geography of Like, what's farther? And it turned into like. I was like, God, I sucked at geography in sixth grade.
I was awful. I was like. It was turning into, like, what is closer, Denver or Vegas?
Find out next week.
I'm like, yes. This is such a. It was such a dynamic that I was like, all right, give me the answer for the dolphins.
[00:04:41] Speaker B: Go.
[00:04:42] Speaker A: And I'm like, it just. It. It made me giggle. So I'm excited that that's going to be a reoccurring bit.
[00:04:47] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:04:47] Speaker A: Today in my segment, I'm going to make you earn some treats. I have some Reese's Oreos.
It's like, you didn't bring your dog
[00:04:56] Speaker B: here, but you're going to. You're going to treat me just like
[00:04:58] Speaker A: you are going to Pavlov.
[00:05:00] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:05:00] Speaker A: You're going to Pavlov all up in here.
[00:05:02] Speaker B: Okay, I'm ready.
[00:05:03] Speaker A: But before we do that, let's talk about something else that might make other people sweat. I'm talking about chores.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
Like, around the house. Like, did you have a lot of chores growing up from here? The three boys in the house, you know, do you have some chores?
[00:05:18] Speaker A: Was that like, like classist? Like, dude, I have a lot of chores.
[00:05:22] Speaker B: Come on. Every.
[00:05:23] Speaker A: Everybody has.
[00:05:24] Speaker B: Every household is different, though.
[00:05:25] Speaker A: But everyone has chores. Do you know some families don't have chores?
[00:05:29] Speaker B: Yeah, I know definitely some parents who, like, really do not ask a lot of their children.
[00:05:34] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:05:35] Speaker B: Yes. Yes.
[00:05:35] Speaker A: Yeah, we definitely were a lot more comparatively to maybe what your kids do.
[00:05:42] Speaker B: Do you have. The question is, what's the best? What's the goat chore?
[00:05:46] Speaker A: I'm going to give you the worst first, I don't care what your question was. I'm going to give you what my answer to the worst is.
[00:05:51] Speaker B: That's fun.
[00:05:52] Speaker A: The worst is vacuuming.
[00:05:56] Speaker B: No.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: Are you serious? Then I sweat more vacuuming than I do mowing the lawn.
[00:06:02] Speaker B: Okay. I don't understand. I'm confused.
[00:06:04] Speaker A: I don't know what it is. I don't know. I don't know if it's the simple motion of the back and forth, the left and right. I'm telling you right here, right now.
It. It's hard. I don't know what it is.
[00:06:14] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. Are you rocking like old school, Heavy duty?
[00:06:18] Speaker A: It could be anything. I actually have, like, a bougie one that, like, has a frame that, like, you just set on its side. It's got a little cord that.
[00:06:27] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:06:27] Speaker A: You push back and forth at the other hand.
[00:06:29] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:06:29] Speaker A: Like, they're separated, and it's super Light. I. I don't know what it is. It's the motion. I have to. I have to mow my. Or I have to vacuum my house shirtless, or I'm. I might pit out through a shirt.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
We're learning a lot today.
[00:06:44] Speaker A: You're welcome.
[00:06:45] Speaker B: Interesting vacuum. Wooden wouldn't register on either the best or worst.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: Not even close. The best is doing the dishes.
[00:06:53] Speaker B: Doing the dishes.
[00:06:55] Speaker A: Love the dishes. Really love the dishes. You know what else I like doing? I like doing the dishes at other people's places. Do you know why?
[00:07:02] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: The bar is so much lower.
[00:07:04] Speaker B: Oh, well, that's.
[00:07:05] Speaker A: Well, because they're like, oh, I'm not doing them. You know, I guess. I guess, you know, I don't really care that much because that.
[00:07:12] Speaker B: Explain. You've washed dishes in my house, so that kind of checks out.
[00:07:15] Speaker A: Actually, there were many times I'd come over, and you're like, hey, you want to hang out? And I'm like, yeah, sure. And they're like, all right, give me just a sec. I'm going to, you know, put my 7,000 kids to sleep. And I'm like, okay. You know, and like, four weeks later, you come back down, but I'm like, I'm gonna do the dishes. I'm gonna be a nice guy. I'm like, he's not gonna complain about these. The bar is so low.
Nobody did the dishes or Marshall did them. Not greatly.
[00:07:39] Speaker B: Well, yeah, that's a good way to look at it.
[00:07:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:41] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm thankful. Doing the dishes, though, I guess it's kind of. It's like the hot tablet.
[00:07:46] Speaker A: Sticking my hands inside the. And you know what else I like to do at somebody else's house with the. With the dishes?
[00:07:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:52] Speaker A: I like to say I'm gonna let that one over there soak.
That's a good one. Like, when you say that to somebody, they're like, ah, man, I wish you would have done that one pan.
[00:08:03] Speaker B: That's the one that I'm just gonna
[00:08:05] Speaker A: let that one soak.
[00:08:05] Speaker B: That one takes muscle.
Yeah, let's.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: But so I would say I do like the. Being able to look at things. Would you say mowing is a chore?
[00:08:15] Speaker B: Oh, mowing.
[00:08:16] Speaker A: That's more like a chore. Yeah.
[00:08:20] Speaker B: Come on. Come on.
[00:08:21] Speaker A: I remember my dad made me mow, and he didn't like the way I mowed. So the next time we had to mow, I had to just walk behind him while he mowed.
[00:08:30] Speaker B: That's nice. Okay.
[00:08:31] Speaker A: That's the equivalent of, like, the all 22.
[00:08:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: All right.
[00:08:35] Speaker B: All right.
[00:08:35] Speaker A: For mowing the lawn. I never did the line poorly after that.
[00:08:38] Speaker B: I was gonna watch a lot of film. Yeah.
[00:08:39] Speaker A: I literally. I was like. It was rough. I was like, why'd you go on that? He's like, just listen. Just follow me.
All right, Let me hear yours best and worst. I want to hear your worst.
[00:08:54] Speaker B: I feel like walking the dog is worst. Best.
[00:08:57] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:08:59] Speaker B: Huh. That's got to be up there as, like, one of the greatest. Like, oh, walk the dog.
Yeah. I'm gonna go take the dog out, and we're gonna just go on a walk around the neighborhood. Like, that is.
That's like a treat.
So there are some that are, like a kind of a. A joy to do, and I think mowing the lawn is, like, pretty high. Mowing.
[00:09:18] Speaker A: Have you ever had the dog run off of your leash, though?
Dangerous game.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: When you're talking about all those things have happened. All the things.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: Yeah, but don't. Doesn't that go into account of, like. Easy. You said easy. Yeah.
[00:09:29] Speaker B: And you got to scoop the poop when you live in town too, right? Yeah, but. So there are unpleasant parts to it sometimes. It's a rainy day. You know, it's not always great, but in general, on average, that's a joy. That's a treat.
[00:09:40] Speaker A: What do you think about people that don't pick up their poop?
[00:09:43] Speaker B: Scum of the earth.
[00:09:45] Speaker A: Worse than people that don't put their carts back 100.
[00:09:49] Speaker B: Not even a contest.
[00:09:50] Speaker A: What if your neighborhood has formulated a house that nobody likes because of the previous owner and just. They all know that that's the crap house.
Literally and figuratively.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: Yeah. This very specific scenario, I'm. I don't know if I'm throwing it out. I don't know if I want to go on record. Okay.
[00:10:07] Speaker A: Just listeners out there. If you had a crap house in your neighborh neighborhood. Yeah.
[00:10:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:12] Speaker A: And you and your friends would have your dogs poop there. What would you think about that?
[00:10:16] Speaker B: Mowing the lawn is very high. Mowing the line is the thing that we secretly go like, oh, is it really a chore? I guess I have to mow the lawn.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Let me put my headphones.
[00:10:27] Speaker B: Secretly. I'm like, I'm just queuing up an audiobook or a good podcast, and, like, I grab a drink, put it in the holster on my zero turn. Like, I get out there and just cry.
[00:10:36] Speaker A: Makes it a little different.
[00:10:37] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh. All the time difference in the world. It's super great. Super great. The kids, you guys Just go pick up all the sticks in the yard and get out of the way while dad cruises for two hours picking up the sticks.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: Buddy, there's nothing quite like it. So.
[00:10:49] Speaker B: Worst.
[00:10:50] Speaker A: What? What's the worst for you?
[00:10:51] Speaker B: Worst. Oh, gosh, I could.
This podcast isn't long enough for that.
[00:10:58] Speaker A: Give me one or two.
[00:10:59] Speaker B: There's a lot of animal related chores that get pretty nasty.
So I've had every kind of animal.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: Like an old yeller situation.
[00:11:08] Speaker B: No, that's not a chore. Really. I would. Well, it's something you have. You enjoy it routinely. You're talking about, like, putting a dog down. Yeah, no, that's.
Well, unless we're like, processing animals and you could maybe kind of call it.
[00:11:21] Speaker A: But, you know, I had a friend
[00:11:22] Speaker B: talking about, like, cleaning up their messes, like scooping out the coop or like the horse stall or. Yeah, you know, you got those chickens. We've had them all.
They're all, like, messy and nasty. The. The meat chickens. Those were not actually very. That was not fun.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: That could be gross after, like, a defensive lineman.
[00:11:43] Speaker B: My baby girl did name all of our chickens when she was a couple years old and. And she named one of them Reggie White.
[00:11:50] Speaker A: Reggie White. I almost said to Burkisha Ferguson, yeah, no, no, no.
[00:11:54] Speaker B: She had a little packers book and that was her favorite book.
[00:11:56] Speaker A: Reggie White. He died, right?
[00:11:58] Speaker B: To my knowledge, yes.
[00:11:59] Speaker A: Wasn't it a hawk?
[00:12:03] Speaker B: No, I.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: Or is that the one that went to your friend?
[00:12:05] Speaker B: I feel like it was cancer or wow. Or something like that.
[00:12:08] Speaker A: Tragic. No, you know, I actually told a couple friends that we. I do a podcast with some friends, been five years doing, and they're like, oh, my gosh, send me the link. I didn't know that. And I'm like, I'll send you the. Tonight. We're 12 minutes in. Haven't talked any football.
[00:12:20] Speaker B: This is part of. No, actually, folks, we usually get right into.
[00:12:24] Speaker A: What did you guys. Last week, you guys talked about something that was like, very old person as your guys's question of the day. And it kind of like threw me for a bit of a tailwind of like. I was like.
[00:12:35] Speaker B: I mean, listeners can hit the archives. It's still great content. But I feel like it did have something to do with our fitness routines and how we stay in shape.
[00:12:42] Speaker A: Yeah, I didn't. I didn't.
[00:12:43] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:12:44] Speaker A: I kind of pictured Ian being Frank Underwood from House of Cards doing the rowing machine. I did. I was very impressed during the rowing machine and that. He said, you know, I got to figure out how to do it so. So I don't hurt my back. And I was like, that's such an old person thing to say. I love it. Like, I related so much to that, Ian, so.
[00:13:03] Speaker B: That's true.
[00:13:04] Speaker A: All right, so we got some listener questions. We got some hot takes. We used to call them Twitter props. Remember when we used to like have a Twitter that like we, you know.
[00:13:13] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:13:13] Speaker A: Back when Twitter was a Twitter and not an X.
[00:13:17] Speaker B: Anyway. All right, we've heard from our listeners, a few of them.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: One of them, I need to get on. It's fresh off the press, Justin Manson. So just so you know, Justin listens to every episode whether I'm on it or not.
Justin lit my phone up today. Okay, this is. This is where he went.
My king is gone. Brb crying, listening to Linger by the Cranberries, watching his highlights.
I would have loved to have played yesterday.
I am not well.
Dropped a salad on myself 10 minutes ago. JJ traded. This is not my day. Remember when I told you the Vikings would make the wrong choice and whichever quarterback they would let go would win a Super bowl next year? Then Darnold did just that. If JJ wins a Super bowl this year, I might go full Britney Spears.
I'm getting roasted in my text messages. A lot of.
And I quote for a fifth question mark.
[00:14:15] Speaker B: Oh, no.
[00:14:16] Speaker A: J.J. mcCarthy traded to the Giants.
You gotta think that was. I don't know if you knew that. Earlier in the week, Harbaugh said, yeah, we're gonna take a look at adding a quarterback. But it was very toy.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
And there he is.
[00:14:33] Speaker B: I was moderately surprised.
[00:14:35] Speaker A: Taking his brothers a little bit. Brother's quarter quarterback.
[00:14:39] Speaker B: That is not a lot. Relatively speaking. That's not a lot of play. Time to make up your mind.
[00:14:45] Speaker A: Well, 10th overall pick to fifth. Fifth round is terrible return drop.
[00:14:50] Speaker B: That's the sort of thing that, you know, GMs could get. Should get roasted for. Is that sort of squandering of team resources when you are missing by that much and getting so little in return for your assets? That's.
That's mismatch.
[00:15:05] Speaker A: That's the thing that gets people fired.
[00:15:07] Speaker B: Well, he's already been fired.
[00:15:08] Speaker A: I mean, I'm talking like the new people that are in there that you could only get a 5th round pick out of it. Yeah.
[00:15:15] Speaker B: Anyway, kind of sad, kind of a weird scenario to play out. Like he's been. I. I feel like he's been one of the, you know, over talked about players in the league. That was. Yeah, he was. That was a rich.
[00:15:28] Speaker A: You think he gets 9 as the number, by the way.
[00:15:32] Speaker B: That's a good question. I'm curious. I'm curious if it will or is
[00:15:34] Speaker A: gonna be a new ego of like his new alter ego is like I'm serving.
[00:15:38] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:15:41] Speaker A: that was nine. That's like Kevin 1.0. You're talking to Kevin 2.0. No, it's JJ, not Kevin. But you get what I'm saying.
[00:15:47] Speaker B: The amount of discourse about this young player, it's kind of surprised me. I've always been a little surprised and you know, like I've been the Michigan fan and followed JJ the since the beginning and I've always hoped to see him. Huge Michigan fan.
[00:16:00] Speaker A: You and Ian last week talking about the Michigan game that you guys don't watch.
[00:16:04] Speaker B: Anyway, the amount of attention that he has garnered has always surprised me because he's never struck me as like a transcendent talent though I've always admired his qualities and thought the potential especially as he grows considering how young he still is.
The potential to be to for competent quarterback play in the pros. Is there.
[00:16:28] Speaker A: Is it.
[00:16:29] Speaker B: But the, the discourse around him has always been so when look at like other.
There's been other like first round quarterbacks taken in recent years that we just kind of forget about. They don't just like dominate the media conversations. The way jj, I don't know why he's been such like a lightning rod of attention.
[00:16:46] Speaker A: There's very few quarterbacks I can say that my team decided to rush the entire second half and we won because I did not participate.
[00:16:57] Speaker B: Yeah, I know you bring that kind of one. That. That odd one up a lot and it. And it's not a good look but it's.
[00:17:05] Speaker A: I've never had that. And then your top 10, like I just can't that those are things that don't really add up to me.
[00:17:10] Speaker B: That's fair.
[00:17:11] Speaker A: So I know Justin won't like me saying that. Just so you know, by the way, I mean. And it's one of my favorite things when Justin does listen. I mean it is a constant. He. He listens like I do. It's just very argumentative. Like oh yeah, you don't know ball. Oh right. Why'd you say this? Are you kidding me? Reggie Bush, question mark. Question mark. Like though we think very similarly when we listen to thing it's all criticism.
[00:17:38] Speaker B: I love that and.
[00:17:39] Speaker A: But we love it. Like I don't think you're gonna want to do this pot again after it's just you and I and there's no escaping my last Word.
[00:17:46] Speaker B: Oh, right, right, right. Yeah, yeah.
[00:17:48] Speaker A: That you hate.
[00:17:49] Speaker B: Okay, okay, okay.
[00:17:50] Speaker A: Like, I think there's a lot of things that Justin and I relate to while we listen. So if we were to have him in here or that would be fun in the studio, I think it finally would be somebody being on my level. Like, he has a one crutch that he goes to pretty consistently. You want to guess what it is? It's related to you.
[00:18:11] Speaker B: Okay. Is it something to do with choking?
[00:18:14] Speaker A: Something to do with. Oh, wow, that's a great callback right there. No, it actually has to do with your fandom.
[00:18:20] Speaker B: Oh, okay. So he brings that up a lot,
[00:18:22] Speaker A: being a fan of two different teams.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: Okay, okay.
[00:18:24] Speaker A: And saying, you know, these are the teams that I loved and yeah, these are teams I Florida with.
These are teams I like forever.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:32] Speaker A: I'm like, okay, yeah. Since like four years ago.
[00:18:36] Speaker B: Not true at all. Five. I'm sorry, 20, but who's counting?
[00:18:43] Speaker A: Minus 15.
[00:18:46] Speaker B: You have a talent for like derailing me, like, just like messing up my thought process. So I'm like. I get lost. Very. We talked a lot about for that. But anyway, I want. I want more Justin. Let's get more Justin into this.
[00:18:57] Speaker A: I'll. I'll see what I can do. I'll see what I can fish out of him. Yeah. Do you want the unfiltered Justin? I'm just curious.
[00:19:04] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: I don't know if I want a bit.
[00:19:06] Speaker B: I'm ready for that.
[00:19:07] Speaker A: The text message thread without his consent.
[00:19:10] Speaker B: You should get his consent. And I need to like, emotionally prepare for it probably.
[00:19:14] Speaker A: Well, with that comes. We talked a little bit about the Giants.
Right. We. Let's go from one hardball to the other.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:22] Speaker A: And air giannunzio writes in which 03 team, if any, will make the playoffs, in which 30 team is the most fraudulent. So let's go through Owen threes first. Okay. We got the Bucks slated to get the number one overall pick. Right now the box.
[00:19:38] Speaker B: And the Texas number two pick. I don't remember how that is calculated.
[00:19:42] Speaker A: I always enjoy those.
[00:19:43] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:43] Speaker A: Do you remember the Reggie Bush bowl back in the day? It was the Titans and the Saints. They did a. The Reggie Bush bowl and then loser ended up getting Georgie Bush and. Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. I just enjoyed that. Sure.
[00:19:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Buck sex is the Titans, Chargers, the Dolphins. I don't see any of them making them.
[00:20:00] Speaker A: None of making playoff.
[00:20:02] Speaker B: I don't think any of those five.
[00:20:03] Speaker A: If I made you pick one. We're going Bucks. Right. Just based on conference.
[00:20:09] Speaker B: No, I would Division I would be more likely to put stock in the Texans figuring things out because I think that they have more talent on their roster.
[00:20:18] Speaker A: Who would you rather be, C.J.
[00:20:20] Speaker B: stroud or Herbert right now?
[00:20:24] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:20:25] Speaker B: Oh, I wouldn't want to be Herbert right now. He has like a really famous wife
[00:20:29] Speaker A: smokeshow of a girlfriend.
[00:20:30] Speaker B: So. Girlfriend. They're not married yet.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: Not married. Okay. The way where they, they were canoodling in the off season.
[00:20:35] Speaker B: Okay. Could speak to Josh Allen got married off season, didn't he? It's in Haley Steinfeld. Herbert did not. So they're all kind of going out with some.
[00:20:43] Speaker A: They don't all look the same, Kyle.
[00:20:44] Speaker B: I know they don't, but it's hard for me to keep track. I'm an old man.
[00:20:48] Speaker A: White quarterbacks. I get it.
[00:20:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
No, I, I, I'd be, I'd be more inclined to ride with CJ Stroud at this point. I think that that is the most well rounded roster and it, they're the team that it wouldn't shock me if they kind of fell into a groove as the season progressed to if their defense stepped up to be on par with what it was last year, which was basically the best in the league, and if their offense kind of found a rhythm and figured some things out that would shock me the least of this slate of it is crazy to
[00:21:19] Speaker A: think that Houston lost the Rams in the first week when Montgomery had like three rushing touchdowns.
[00:21:25] Speaker B: Right.
[00:21:26] Speaker A: Like, and now he hasn't like sniffed the end zone since.
[00:21:28] Speaker B: They've done some weird things. This last, this last loss of theirs against the Colts, if I recall, was one of those surprising weird ones that they shouldn't have lost. There was like clock mismanagement.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: And you remember their super fan for the Colts.
The we are Colts. We are.
[00:21:45] Speaker B: Oh, we know this little video thing.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: Until that guy stops doing that, I root every. I will never pick for the Colts to win.
[00:21:56] Speaker B: I don't understand.
[00:21:57] Speaker A: I just can't stand that guy. He bugs me. The fact that that guy has such a platform and we didn't get anything. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me, Ms. Ford, that you couldn't promote our podcast? Similar to this guy who sits there changing five words to a song every week on his little.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: Oh, he's still. Okay.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: He's still, he still does it.
[00:22:18] Speaker B: This is his thing.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:20] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:22:20] Speaker A: It's ridiculous. I can't, I can't even.
[00:22:22] Speaker B: People do weirder things.
[00:22:23] Speaker A: It made me angry. I don't know why.
I'm not I'm nonsensical when it comes to my anger.
It just doesn't make sense.
[00:22:31] Speaker B: Yes, agreed. Strongly. Very strongly.
[00:22:33] Speaker A: You don't need to say very.
[00:22:34] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:22:35] Speaker A: All right. Let's go to the teams that are 3, 0, that are the most fraudulent. We got Bills, we got Chiefs. I know we're not allowed to talk about them. Sorry. With the Raiders. The Vikings.
The Raiders again. I put them out here twice.
[00:22:48] Speaker B: And then 49ers, the obvious selection here, looks like the Raiders.
[00:22:54] Speaker A: They're precarious chains, buddy.
[00:22:57] Speaker B: I know, but, like, we have some comments about the Raiders coming up from another listener, but I think it's very interesting. I mean, Kirk, he's. He has.
He's tied for the league lead and most touchdown passes to start the season. I think that Kubiak's offense is, like, really working for him.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: The.
[00:23:14] Speaker B: The marriage between him and this veteran quarterback who can read defenses, who can handle this. This scheme that he's working with is proving effective. And then Brock Bowers is a total cheat code.
[00:23:24] Speaker A: Kirk Cousins has more touchdown passes than Herbert Lamar and Baker combined.
[00:23:30] Speaker B: It's incredible. Yeah. I think only Brock Purdy has as many so far this season. The entire NFL, what's going on? This is, like. This is one of the teams that has, like, a.
A start that is exceeding expectations, even optimistic expectations. I don't think anybody here was like,
[00:23:46] Speaker A: do you think this more says, okay, Kirk was definitely hurt a lot more than we thought last year. Like, that Achilles, that's hard for older quarterbacks to come back from.
[00:23:57] Speaker B: I would. It would surprise me if that was not a factor.
However, like, I think that this is.
[00:24:04] Speaker A: I would love to listen to you podcast on 2.5 speed. It would be spectacular.
Am I talking fast? Some of them. It's like, certain cadences you have during your speech that, like, get you going. When you get excited, you're like, I would certainly take a look at that. And there's, like, certain words in there that, like, just get me going. You were talking about the Texans, by the way, and I want to go back on this. And Herbert and CJ.
[00:24:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:30] Speaker A: Okay. So Stroud turned down 50 million annually.
[00:24:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:36] Speaker A: You still picking Stroud for that as your answer?
[00:24:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. I want to make sure we're on the same page. My answer.
Excuse me. To who I would say is the most fragile. I'm gonna pick the Vikings.
[00:24:52] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:24:53] Speaker A: I don't have any reason to say that their quarterback is going to be healthy.
[00:24:58] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:24:59] Speaker A: I.
They had such a very. Just weird win that they had Where? I'm pretty sure. Yeah, here it is. The Vikings had zero snaps in the red zone today. The last time that anyone has ever done that is 2007, when they won the game.
[00:25:20] Speaker B: Crazy stuff.
[00:25:21] Speaker A: And it was the Vikings against the Bears.
[00:25:23] Speaker B: No kidding. Yeah. Fun.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: Just weird.
I can't just. That's a. That's a riddle.
[00:25:30] Speaker B: Probably not fun to watch.
[00:25:32] Speaker A: No.
[00:25:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Justin Jefferson went out of the game with what appears to be a short term injury. Should be back.
[00:25:39] Speaker A: By the way.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: How.
[00:25:40] Speaker A: How did Kyler play yesterday? I kept sending this to people and they just said, I don't know. Yeah, the dude was dead. He gave us a 2 impression on the 30 yard line so bad that
[00:25:51] Speaker B: we weren't allowed to laugh at how
[00:25:52] Speaker A: big of a duck the first pass he threw as a Viking was. You remember it? You know, I'm talking about you threw a duck. That it would be like me throwing left handed and I can't even throw great right handed.
[00:26:01] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I don't know.
[00:26:03] Speaker A: And picked and then the next one dead.
[00:26:05] Speaker B: That's part of the job.
[00:26:07] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Just come back the next week. No big deal. CTE Junior.
[00:26:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. That's. That's the game. That's the game that they play and we watch.
[00:26:14] Speaker A: By the way, I. I understand their defense is good. I understand Brian Flores, you know, he's. He's ballsy. I don't know if you caught this on the week one. You know that sometimes they do that seven man pressure where they put seven men on the line of scrimmage and they back some off and. Yeah, that's a big thing. NFL does.
A lot of people have, you know, converted, having chaos. Looks like that.
[00:26:34] Speaker B: Yeah. First.
[00:26:35] Speaker A: First game. Okay. First, third down. Do you know what he did this year?
[00:26:39] Speaker B: First, third down. In the whole season, Regular season?
Whoever did the. Whoever who did they play first?
[00:26:45] Speaker A: I don't care. But you want to know what they did?
[00:26:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:26:48] Speaker A: Eight man.
Eight men to the line of scrimmage.
[00:26:51] Speaker B: Whoa.
[00:26:52] Speaker A: And then you know how many they rushed.
[00:26:53] Speaker B: How many?
[00:26:54] Speaker A: Eight.
[00:26:55] Speaker B: No way.
[00:26:55] Speaker A: They did the. As we like to call in the business, engage eight. I don't know if. How much you played mad back in the day, it was always the number one blitz. If you could. You had one safety. Go back two corners. Go back. Everyone else blitzes forward on a four, three defense.
[00:27:08] Speaker B: Oh, boy.
[00:27:09] Speaker A: But he put everybody in the line and, you know, they're thinking. And they just murdered whoever the quarterback was. I mean, just murdered him.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh.
[00:27:17] Speaker A: Yeah. So I did think that there was a Little bit of hyperbole and talking about how great Flores was. Would you rather have Flores as defense, as a defensive coordinator or Kevin o' Connell being able to take average to below average quarterbacks and make them good?
[00:27:38] Speaker B: Brian Flores every day of the week.
[00:27:40] Speaker A: Every day of the week.
[00:27:40] Speaker B: Yeah. You can give him any defensive roster and you will have a good top ten defense.
Money in the bank.
Kevin o', Connell, he's good. He deserves to be employed doing what he's doing. I like him.
[00:27:53] Speaker A: Don't forget he made Dobbs a starting quarterback in the NFL.
[00:27:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:58] Speaker A: So much so I don't even know his last name.
[00:28:00] Speaker B: Romeo.
[00:28:00] Speaker A: First name?
[00:28:01] Speaker B: No. Oh, Josh Dobbs.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: Josh Dobbs.
[00:28:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Different baldy.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: Tennessee.
[00:28:07] Speaker B: Right? The astronaut or something like that.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: What was the.
[00:28:09] Speaker B: What was his name? The sciency.
He had a nickname that was something academic. Red Farve. No, no, the Josh Dobbs.
[00:28:17] Speaker A: Oh, Remember he had the human shish kebab.
[00:28:20] Speaker B: Never mind. Moving on.
[00:28:21] Speaker A: Perfect.
Let's get to Jamie Hustle writes in which person in the NFL would be the best landscaper. He wrote this intentionally because I fell asleep after mowing my lawn.
[00:28:32] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:28:33] Speaker A: I'm picking. And this is just. It can be a player, it could be a coach, it could be a past person. I'm going Tom one. Just a lot of. He says splash a lot.
[00:28:42] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:28:43] Speaker A: It's good for the lawn.
I feel like he would definitely be somebody that gets that mosa on. He's walking it, first of all. He's definitely not zero turning or what. He's bagging for sure as well.
And he is going to weed whack every edge of that lawn.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:29:07] Speaker A: What about you?
[00:29:08] Speaker B: There's some characters who came to mind. I feel like I could. I. I can visualize Andy Reed in the mulch a little bit. You know, like we're resembles like neighbors that I've had who are there just like retired guys who like really don't have anything on their calendar except like make the.
[00:29:26] Speaker A: And you would have the front look, the plumbers crack going for sure. You know, putting that mulch out.
[00:29:31] Speaker B: I could. I've done a lot of landscaping and yard work in the past. It's heavy work. I mean I. I'd have like a muscly Warren Sapp type or something like that doing. Doing great. Ryan, Something like that would be pretty good. I think. I like Dak in these Lowe's commercials.
[00:29:46] Speaker A: You know, he's hip thrust while he's doing the lawnmower.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:29:50] Speaker A: Just push it forward.
[00:29:51] Speaker B: Yeah. I want to see it like he's got, I feel like he's, he's got a good vision, you know, like that's, that's his, it's his calling card. So.
[00:29:58] Speaker A: Quite the game yesterday, by the way.
[00:30:00] Speaker B: Yeah. What a great game.
[00:30:04] Speaker A: What, what's your take on the difference between good games and close games?
Because we're going to hear a lot about some games from some listeners from what the week was.
What's your take on the difference in that? Because I sometimes have a hard time deciphering from you guys talking about what was a good game versus a close game.
[00:30:27] Speaker B: Good game versus a close game. That's a good distinction.
I think we like to see talent on display.
We the listening, I mean not listening. We the viewing public, the fan base. I think when we are seeing talent show up and this. So this is to contrast it where the games look not functional. We've definitely watched duds of games where even though they're close, these just look like teams who are not prepared, teams who are just dropping the balls, can't execute, they miss their tackles, they throw incomplete passes, etc, they miss the kicks, whatever's happening. Those games can be close, but they're not a delight to watch. But when we were able to witness the best that this sport has to offer actually go out and perform, that's really exciting. When both teams are showing up. I know that we fans definitely generalizing, are gonna be biased towards offensive games where the offenses are the sides that are showing up. And as. As delightful as it can sometimes be to watch great defenses just smother their opponents and really do their job, it's not as exciting as watching big catches, big plays and scores.
[00:31:40] Speaker A: Like if I said if I made you pick between two sets of games yesterday, the Ravens Cowboys game, okay, that was a high scoring. Yes, A couple late, late game drives, some miscues comparatively to the low scoring.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: Two great running backs were like really showing up. Great wide receivers showing up, great quarterbacks. 2 I think the best in the business really like bringing their A game. That's what I want to see compared
[00:32:07] Speaker A: to the Giants game, a weather game, a defense game, a game where Jamis Winson said we did this for Jackson, it was six times two 12.
That was what he said after his game, by the way. I don't know if you heard that or not, but.
[00:32:21] Speaker B: Yes, of course, of course. Everything that he says, I, I frame. Yeah.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: Thank you. Glad to hear that.
[00:32:27] Speaker B: He's a legend.
[00:32:27] Speaker A: I don't know why I want him
[00:32:28] Speaker B: to stay in the sport forever.
[00:32:31] Speaker A: Me too. Yeah, he's a treasure.
[00:32:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Anyway, what was the question we're going to.
[00:32:38] Speaker A: What's the difference? I mean, which one of those two would you like?
[00:32:40] Speaker B: I'm 100. The Cowboys, Ravens, all the time. Like, that's a lot of office showing up, like, living up to their billing. I mean, these are the top played players at the top paying positions showing why they are.
So when you see Derek Henry doing that, when you see Dak out there in CD Lamb getting those catches and. And Lamar doing what he does. Yeah, that's like the money makers showing up and doing their job like they're supposed to in a game where either team could win down to the very end. That's. That's what I want to watch every Sunday.
[00:33:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I just, I. I have a hard time distinguishing it. So, like, when I ask that, that isn't me saying that I have a set question, but it is me saying that I am very much a criticizer of.
I'm somebody who criticizes but don't have. I do not have an answer to replace it.
Like, I don't have a solution to it. But I definitely complain. I complained many a time over the last couple weeks, listening to you and Ian talk about a couple games that I was like, I don't think that was a good game. I don't know if there were great games this week, and I don't know if that's because Aaron Rodgers won and like, that made me upset or if I just have a hard time distinguishing maybe between different teams I may not like and whether I think the game was a good game.
Like, did I enjoy watching Daryl Washington or Darnell Washington for the Steelers just get going and get a 50 yard reception who's like £297,000 and nobody can tackle him.
[00:34:09] Speaker B: Right.
[00:34:10] Speaker A: But somehow it only happens in the fourth quarter that he gets a. Throw a ball thrown to him.
Okay, okay. Was the, Was the Chargers game a good game where the Bills had six turnovers and somehow beat the Chargers? Still was the Cardinals and my Cardinals. Sorry, I need to start referring to that. Actually, I'm putting it out there.
[00:34:32] Speaker B: Heartbreaker for you.
[00:34:33] Speaker A: Yeah, very close.
I'm putting it out there. From now on, we don't call them the Arizona Cardinals. We call them Marshalls Cardinals.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: On this podcast exclusively. Are you okay with that? So let it be written so shall be said.
Like, I don't know. I just have a hard time looking at that. Like, I wouldn't have said that the Bills game was a good game just because it was close.
I Mean down to the wire.
[00:34:57] Speaker B: No, I wouldn't go. I. That's a very big difference than me saying like, oh, I enjoyed watching it. Like, that was fun to watch, which I often do for like a chaotic, surprising games.
[00:35:07] Speaker A: You're very good for saying that was fun to watch after I, like, didn't watch it. I find the charge, that was one thing that drove me. You guys said, I haven't really talked about the Chargers, ever really seen them. And then I don't know if you watch Tom Brady's. He just ripped them.
[00:35:21] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[00:35:22] Speaker A: Did you do watch the coverage of him? They said, like, what do you think about the Chargers? Tell me why it's not working. He goes, I don't think we have enough time.
Like, that was his hello to the Chargers.
[00:35:33] Speaker B: That's great.
[00:35:34] Speaker A: A lot of good points by you guys. Talking about McDaniels. Like, all those things are really cute, you know, and you look like this, but when you can't win, it doesn't look so cute.
And that was a lot of coverage that Miami had last year of him as a head coach. Right. You know, the shades, the. The Gucci slides with the stockx tag on it.
[00:35:54] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: The funny little haha comments are cool.
[00:35:57] Speaker B: Just like, yeah, is.
[00:35:59] Speaker A: But then when you don't win, but at the same time, winning cures everything. So. Speaking of not winning, by the way, Drake May, seven turnovers.
[00:36:07] Speaker B: Drake May and Justin Herbert and CG Stroud.
Who else is like, really down in the dump?
[00:36:15] Speaker A: Zach Wilson.
[00:36:17] Speaker B: I'm talking about, like, who's just having like a disaster of a season.
Cam Ward, probably. Drake May, Cam Ward and Justin Herbert are really.
[00:36:26] Speaker A: I've been hearing Cam Ward might get traded.
[00:36:28] Speaker B: Disasters. They look absolutely abysmal. All three of them.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: Cam were traded. It's been two years.
They're talking about, you know, especially they're going to be building a new stadium.
Is that the guy that's going to bring in people to their stadium? I don't know. Would an Arch Manning be more likely to bring a new quarter?
[00:36:48] Speaker B: The guy's low light reel is like, really disappointing. What?
[00:36:52] Speaker A: He's got a couple of those where he just can sling it, though.
[00:36:56] Speaker B: All right. That's kind of just reminds me of
[00:36:59] Speaker A: Jay Cutler in that regard.
[00:37:00] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:37:01] Speaker A: So let's hear from the commission. You wrote, you wrote in. And I want Ian to give his best.
[00:37:08] Speaker B: Or.
[00:37:08] Speaker A: I'm sorry, I want Kyle to give his best impression of the Commish Report.
[00:37:14] Speaker B: Right on. Okay. The commission rights, by the way.
[00:37:17] Speaker A: I haven't looked if there Isn't a hashtag at the end of this, I'm walking out. Go ahead.
[00:37:21] Speaker B: Okay.
Good effort to survive a resilient Cardinals team and the three and OH start in sole possession of first in the West. Encouraging. Not so encouraging as the relentless onslaught of injuries. It has been discussed at an ad nauseum, but it's seriously unreal watching player after player go down season after season on this team.
That said, no team understands or subscribes to the next man up mentality better than the Niners. Around a third of the team out of the lineup for one reason or another. Just hope they can keep enough of their core players on the field and make a serious run this year. Purdy playing at an MVP level and he'll have to continue to do so, especially with the aforementioned injuries on the D side of the ball. Dismal pass rush and a and run and a run D about as effective as the proverbial screen door on a submarine. One particular, one particular exception is Fred Warner, who is playing like the all Pro and future hall of Famer player he is. Season heats up next week. Looks like Denver has turned a corner and playing up to their potential. They did us a favor tonight against the Lambs in no small part thanks to Funga. I missed that guy. Wouldn't it be nice to have him around? Hashtag all hands on deck.
[00:38:28] Speaker A: Ah. All hands on deck. Thank you.
[00:38:30] Speaker B: You got it.
[00:38:31] Speaker A: I got the hashtag.
Marshalls Cardinals were surprising that they came back. Shout out. Jeremiah Love got another touchdown. Yeah. That's all I care about by the way is just seeing his development, seeing flashes of him be an elite running back.
[00:38:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:45] Speaker A: In moments. That's all I care about as a Arizona Cardinals fan.
We need to get rid of Marvin Harrison Jr. What a a bust.
[00:38:55] Speaker B: Bust.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: Watch three seasons in bust of bus.
[00:38:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Wow. Pretty bad. Pretty bad.
[00:39:01] Speaker A: Worse. Hammer. J.J.
[00:39:04] Speaker B: i I say him. I'd say Marvin Harrison Jr. Not being an impact.
[00:39:08] Speaker A: I wonder what he'll get. I wonder what he'll get back.
[00:39:10] Speaker B: I'd be curious.
I bet he gets better than a fifth. People want good wide receivers.
[00:39:16] Speaker A: Man separation.
I will say commission the part that you hinted at and I just think we need to expand a little bit more. Fred Warner, he. He might go down as the best linebacker of all time.
[00:39:32] Speaker B: There's a case for it.
[00:39:33] Speaker A: No linebacker has had to do what these linebackers do today. Yeah, sure. Ray Lewis plugged the holes, met Eddie George at the line of scrimmage.
[00:39:44] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:39:45] Speaker A: Ray Lewis was not covering Gronk downfield 35 yards downfield like Fred Warner is with some of these absolutely insane aliens.
[00:39:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:39:56] Speaker A: Of tight ends.
[00:39:57] Speaker B: It's incredible.
[00:39:59] Speaker A: Like it's nuts. Like Sonny Styles yesterday covered Jadarian price 35 yards downfield and made a play that I've never seen a linebacker yet alone. An outside linebacker who can play edge right covering 35 yards. Put a hand up at the exact right time. Otherwise Jadir and price goes 55 yards for a touchdown and then the next play is a pick six.
[00:40:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Incredible.
[00:40:21] Speaker A: Think of what the game swing could have been. Yeah.
[00:40:24] Speaker B: This is the quarterback of the defense, as they say.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: If Fred Warner has had injuries, you would think these things would slow him down. He isn't. He's kind of like a.
He's just an anomaly.
[00:40:35] Speaker B: He really is. He really is. Yeah. Like in the, in that kind of Derek Henry category of players who just like defy all the rules, do you
[00:40:43] Speaker A: think people can argue Derrick Henry's greatest running back of all time and feel like passionate about it?
[00:40:50] Speaker B: I think that's a really, really hard position to select any particular player, but I feel like he's on that short list of players one could make a case for. That's not the same as me saying he is. Don't.
[00:41:03] Speaker A: I think, don't quote me. Because of the playing style being so different in the league today.
In a past happy world where everything benefits your quarterback with the rules. Like having a running back who has had the longevity and success of Derek Henry is comparable to what the change is amongst the like duties of a linebacker in today's game.
[00:41:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:26] Speaker A: What would you say?
[00:41:27] Speaker B: I like that too. We. You made it. You gave us like a blind ranking. No, it wasn't a blind ranking. You gave us like a team selection game some weeks back and. And that was kind of a point that I was making when I believe I. I chose a team that maybe had.
I want to say I had like Jerry Rice and Derek Henry or something. Yeah. A combo like that. And my point was that what you're making is that, yeah, Jerry Rice was like a one man offense in the era of run offenses, you know, so he's like standing out at the time, dominating and like how Dan Marino threw
[00:42:01] Speaker A: the ball so much when nobody threw that much back.
[00:42:03] Speaker B: Yeah, nobody, nobody was throwing that. These guys were kind of like ahead of their time or like really running non conventional offensive styles.
[00:42:12] Speaker A: Tom Hanks would say in a league
[00:42:13] Speaker B: of their own, you might say that that works really well. But Derek Henry is also like just in a league of his own for sure.
[00:42:22] Speaker A: He's saying, catch me if you can.
[00:42:25] Speaker B: How many more do you have?
[00:42:26] Speaker A: I mean, don't make me cast you away.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: All right. Anymore. You got another.
[00:42:32] Speaker A: I mean, I could tell you a couple story about toys, but I. We'll do that for another time. I probably do it five times.
[00:42:37] Speaker B: Thank you.
Did I answer your question? I think that. I think that 100%. It's a great point. Like, to see a running back carry a team in this era is huge. And to see a running back at his age do it is just mind boggling.
[00:42:53] Speaker A: How much do you think it makes Commish mad that he has to root for Debo?
[00:43:01] Speaker B: I don't know. Why would that. Why would that bother him?
[00:43:03] Speaker A: You got to think last year he kind of ruined their season.
[00:43:06] Speaker B: Well.
[00:43:08] Speaker A: Well, you do. A higher pitch doesn't mean that you're right. Like, yes, he did. He. He, like their own head coach was like, he wouldn't even say his name out loud for a whole year.
[00:43:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:20] Speaker A: Like, he'd say, that guy.
[00:43:23] Speaker B: Sure, sure. Right.
It's a little weird how this is playing out, really.
[00:43:29] Speaker A: And, like, he was ruining the commanders and not even on their team this summer.
[00:43:35] Speaker B: He's a. He's been a talented player, but he's never carried a team. He's never been the true focal point.
[00:43:42] Speaker A: Well, they got a couple parts of their offense that's like, you got to watch where Debo goes more than McCaffrey.
[00:43:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:48] Speaker A: But I will say this. It's kind of crazy the amount of ingenuity and comprehension that goes into a very complex offense like theirs.
[00:44:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:01] Speaker A: That.
Is it doing too much and is there more simplicity in some of the. We're just going to run the ball right down your throat.
[00:44:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:09] Speaker A: Like, there's some offenses that, like, they're. I'm going to lean you to the left so much that I can hit you on the right or vice versa. And then there's other teams that are like, we're just gonna punch you in the face.
[00:44:20] Speaker B: Our guys are bigger than your guys.
[00:44:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Or our running back will punch you harder than your linebacker can punch you.
[00:44:25] Speaker B: You think Kyle's over scheming this?
[00:44:28] Speaker A: I don't know. It makes me wonder if a guy like Brock Purdy benefits from that system being so complex or if he could do similar things in a conf. In a system that isn't so complex. And I'm not trying to, like, make a shot at. Like, the Lions isn't as complex as that, but, like, I don't know. Could he. Could he Do a similar thing to, like.
I don't know. I'm. It just kind of made me think, like, of all the teams out there, could he do what he's doing in the Texans?
[00:45:00] Speaker B: Sure, sure.
[00:45:00] Speaker A: Could CJ Stroud be comparable as a 49er?
Can I tell you a little fantasy I saw? Like, wow, that'd be an amazing trade.
[00:45:10] Speaker B: What?
[00:45:10] Speaker A: Herbert to the Vikings?
[00:45:12] Speaker B: Oh, I've heard the same.
[00:45:13] Speaker A: I've been hearing that.
[00:45:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:14] Speaker A: Just a little tidbit there for you, Justin. We're 45 minutes into this episode, buddy. Go on.
[00:45:19] Speaker B: I.
I don't see it happening. All right, like.
[00:45:22] Speaker A: All right, well, just let me get. Let me get away with this one, okay?
[00:45:26] Speaker B: Hyperbole.
[00:45:26] Speaker A: Just say you saw it and you like the idea of it.
[00:45:29] Speaker B: I like the idea of it.
[00:45:30] Speaker A: Thank you. All right, we're moving on. Simon Reedsma. A great take from him.
[00:45:34] Speaker B: Simon, by the way, commission.
[00:45:36] Speaker A: I appreciate you being nice about. Thank you, my Cardinals.
[00:45:39] Speaker B: Thank you, Adam.
[00:45:40] Speaker A: And that you beat us.
[00:45:41] Speaker B: Welcome home. I hope your trip to Greece was amazing.
[00:45:43] Speaker A: Great pictures, by the way. Looks like a small time.
[00:45:45] Speaker B: I haven't seen him.
[00:45:46] Speaker A: Looking forward to seeing really go on
[00:45:47] Speaker B: social media that much.
[00:45:48] Speaker A: Well, anyway, didn't even put it that way. I mean, I hope he got us something nice. That's all I'm gonna say.
[00:45:55] Speaker B: Old friend of the show, Simon Reedsma. We miss you, Simon. Thank you for writing in. And it's so delightful to be reminded that Simon's out there listening.
[00:46:03] Speaker A: Ah, it's just. It makes me smile. Yeah, we don't get it every week. So when it happens, I'm like the claim to fame of his wife. Right?
[00:46:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:13] Speaker A: We're in a conference, look over, and they just. Based on my voice, they say, are you Marshall Heslop from the point after nothing. I mean, I couldn't fit a hat on my head for weeks.
[00:46:24] Speaker B: Right?
[00:46:26] Speaker A: Simon Reedsma writes in.
[00:46:27] Speaker B: He writes in. Great show this week. I liked the game.
[00:46:30] Speaker A: Which we need to come up with a better name, by the way.
Chew on it. Yeah, chew on it. Next week. We need a name.
[00:46:37] Speaker B: We need a name. Okay. Simon all sorts out. My thought with the running back was just pick one you know, would be in the top 10. Worst case scenario, you get like 20 points. Instead of whatever Ian got.
I was thinking Priest Holmes.
[00:46:51] Speaker A: Oof.
[00:46:51] Speaker B: He was 49, but still better than Reggie Bush.
Question for me from Simon. Are the Raiders for real or will they get exposed the next four games? My take is they split and go into week eight for five wins, two losses.
I'm like the Raiders, I think Kirk was a great pickup for their situation. Brock is amazing when healthy, exciting, young running back room.
[00:47:16] Speaker A: So my favorite part of it is he said, I'm like the Raiders. Like, it kind of made me think, like, is he going five and two in his life?
Like, is he three and oh, right now hoping that he can just go split the next four?
[00:47:26] Speaker B: He's probably got a better record than that.
[00:47:27] Speaker A: Right?
[00:47:28] Speaker B: I hope with a great family.
[00:47:29] Speaker A: I hope it. I hope it.
[00:47:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:47:32] Speaker A: You know, you kind of alluded to the Raiders being the frauds of the teams that are 3. 0.
[00:47:37] Speaker B: God, I. I had to pick one.
[00:47:41] Speaker A: I think they're pretty. I think they're pretty for real.
Like, I've really liked.
I've really liked a team leaning into having two tight ends and going a lot of three tight end formations. Yeah. Having Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers being the people who. That they throw to.
[00:47:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:00] Speaker A: I'd love to see them pick up like a.
A great wide receiver at a trade deadline. Somebody like.
[00:48:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:07] Speaker A: Can I throw a name out there that might make you smile?
[00:48:10] Speaker B: Okay, sure.
[00:48:11] Speaker A: How about A.J. brown? I think he wants to go back to this Patriot scene that's imploding right now. They're imploding without even him on the field. Danny, you know, you got to think he's in the locker room just screaming at, like, empty lockers of people.
[00:48:23] Speaker B: It's got to be. It's tough. Some. Some players just have a tough trajectory.
[00:48:29] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't.
I don't know. I. I like that. I like that they haven't given up on Genty. I had a lot of people last year that, like, just say, like, oh, get rid of Genti. He did nothing. He's awful. He's a bust. Like, give him time. But one thing is the.
[00:48:43] Speaker B: Not the worst running O line in the league. Correct. Give him one.
[00:48:48] Speaker A: Not the worst. That's such a low bar.
[00:48:51] Speaker B: Just not 30 was atrocious last year. It was absolutely abysmal. I really do still want to see some sort of, like, breakout game for Ashton Genti. I'm looking forward to it. I've been waiting. Like, we're gonna see.
[00:49:05] Speaker A: It's gonna happen just like my Jeremiah.
[00:49:07] Speaker B: He's gonna have his moments, and I'm glad that they are being patient with him. I hope they give him a little more time. Maybe the. The leeway for a running back in the first round is a little bit longer.
[00:49:16] Speaker A: Are we gonna call this the reedsmas Raiders raised Ms.
[00:49:20] Speaker B: Raiders. That has a nice ring to It, Wow.
And I think I like it. I think I like it. So I'm on board with it.
[00:49:28] Speaker A: I will say that one of the more annoying things, like I saw a clip of, like watch Fernando Mendoza on the sideline. He's gonna put his helmet on and he's gonna sit right next to the offensive coordinator as he calls every single play and he's gonna be mentally taking every single snap this year. It's almost like he's gonna come into year two playing a whole year.
I've never ever had C get sacked on the sideline and thought, huh, I wonder if Ryan Mallet's long neck felt that side, felt that sack from the sideline like he did. Yeah, he probably had a helmet on and was thinking, ouch, that hurt just like I was him. What a stupid thing. I mean, just such morons, crazy things.
I. I'm buying the Raiders. I'm going against it. I think that they're better than the Broncos.
[00:50:14] Speaker B: Better than the Broncos.
[00:50:16] Speaker A: Broncos. A lot more inconsistent than the Raiders.
[00:50:19] Speaker B: The Broncos actually have a defense.
I'm not really a big believer in what the Raiders have on that side of the ball.
[00:50:25] Speaker A: I mean, I wouldn't say they had much of a defense comparatively to last night.
[00:50:29] Speaker B: Sure, sure.
[00:50:32] Speaker A: You talk about the Rams.
[00:50:35] Speaker B: That's against the Rams. It's kind of a different level of competition than we've seen the Raiders tackle.
[00:50:40] Speaker A: I don't think anyone on that team had a great game by any means. So like you can't sit here and say like, oh, they're going against a godly offense. Like, okay, they went against a good quarterback. Who Puka didn't play all that great. Devonte had a couple great catches.
[00:50:56] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:50:57] Speaker A: Kyron Williams didn't rush for over 80, didn't get a touchdown.
[00:51:01] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:51:02] Speaker A: There wasn't a beyond great game.
[00:51:03] Speaker B: Well, the Brokers have a good defense. They have one of them. They have one of the better rosters in the NFL and I'm no big Broncos fan or anything like that.
[00:51:11] Speaker A: Just because they got a good roster doesn't mean they're a good team.
[00:51:14] Speaker B: I do not think that they are on the same level as the Raiders, but I like what I see from this Las Vegas team.
[00:51:21] Speaker A: Speaking of liking what I see, Patrick Laughlin, longtime listener, first time caller, called in before we were recording and gave us some breaking news that he thinks Kyle Pitts is a piece of crap.
[00:51:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:34] Speaker A: Also that Puka Nakua he thinks will finish the top five receiver, I mean, really bold takes from him. Yeah. His fault for taking Kyle Pitts and trusting his life into Kyle Pitts.
[00:51:43] Speaker B: Yep.
I would never draft Kyle Pitts in a fantasy league.
[00:51:47] Speaker A: What about the joke? We all knew that this is Kyle puts his eighth year in the NFL and.
[00:51:53] Speaker B: But this is going to be his year.
[00:51:55] Speaker A: Well, every year he's gotten the same amount of touchdowns.
[00:51:58] Speaker B: Is that right?
[00:51:59] Speaker A: So they're like, oh, he's going to get eight this year. You can guarantee eight. Pennsylvan.
[00:52:02] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:52:03] Speaker A: Yep. Yeah, not so much.
[00:52:05] Speaker B: Brutal. Brutal. It's not like that's been the.
The home for a great quarterback play in recent years to his.
But anyway, we don't need to talk about. We don't need to talk about Kyle Pitts.
[00:52:17] Speaker A: Can I talk about how you're going to earn some Oreos today?
[00:52:20] Speaker B: Let's do that.
[00:52:22] Speaker A: All right. We're going to do. It's called say the same as Me.
[00:52:26] Speaker B: Say the same as Me.
[00:52:28] Speaker A: Yep. So I'm going to give you a category.
You're going to have some that are small odds, some that are big odds. And every time you get one correct, I have my answers. My hands will be up. I will keep them in the air and I will not be able to change my answers.
[00:52:40] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:52:42] Speaker A: Some of them, like the first one, you're going to have 32. One out of 32.
Am I trying an NFL team? You're trying to guess the same team that I am.
The game is called Same say the same as me. So say the same NFL team as me.
[00:52:58] Speaker B: And I just have. I'm trying to get in your head. Yep.
[00:53:01] Speaker A: You're saying what would Marshall say now?
Of course the Cardinals are his Cardinals. But would he do that or would he think that. Oh, they won't think that. I'll say that.
[00:53:09] Speaker B: Oh, you're doing a princess bride thing.
[00:53:11] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:53:11] Speaker B: Okay. Inconceivable.
[00:53:14] Speaker A: All right, go ahead.
[00:53:15] Speaker B: But. Okay, so I just have to name a team.
[00:53:18] Speaker A: Yep. And then I'll tell you whether you got it right or not.
[00:53:20] Speaker B: So I have a 1 in 32
[00:53:21] Speaker A: chance for this round of this game. Yes.
[00:53:25] Speaker B: Marshall's Cardinals.
[00:53:26] Speaker A: No, it was the commanders.
How about can you name.
[00:53:30] Speaker B: Might have been my last guess.
[00:53:32] Speaker A: Can you name me an all time game manager?
[00:53:36] Speaker B: An all time game.
[00:53:38] Speaker A: We kind of make fun of quarterbacks.
It's a quarterback, so.
[00:53:42] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:53:45] Speaker A: What do you think? I meant like an equipment manager.
[00:53:46] Speaker B: No, I was thinking more like the coach on the sideline with the time management. I was thinking, come on, dude. Okay.
[00:53:52] Speaker A: Step up.
[00:53:53] Speaker B: Game manager. All time.
[00:53:54] Speaker A: All time.
[00:53:55] Speaker B: Okay, so you already.
[00:53:57] Speaker A: What do you think,
[00:53:59] Speaker B: Peyton Manning, game manager.
[00:54:02] Speaker A: Are you kidding me?
[00:54:03] Speaker B: Okay, okay.
[00:54:05] Speaker A: I'm letting that one. So I'm almost might walk out of here a game manager. Peyton Manning.
[00:54:11] Speaker B: Stop, stop, stop. Okay, that's not who you wrote down.
[00:54:15] Speaker A: Are you kidding me?
[00:54:16] Speaker B: Well, who did you write down?
[00:54:17] Speaker A: Rex Grossman.
[00:54:18] Speaker B: Okay, get. I. Okay, that would have been my 40th guess. All right.
[00:54:22] Speaker A: Okay, well, you're. So far, I have Reese's Oreos right here. Hashtags. Hashtag. Not an ad.
[00:54:28] Speaker B: They look delicious.
[00:54:29] Speaker A: Gunslinger.
[00:54:32] Speaker B: And so I'm guessing who you wrote down.
[00:54:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:54:34] Speaker B: Okay, so I have, like, probably a top four or five that I.
[00:54:36] Speaker A: Okay, can I hear your top four that you aren't gonna pick? And then give me your number one.
[00:54:40] Speaker B: Okay. I feel like the original gunslinger's Brett Favreau. Then in his wake, we have Matthew Staffords and Jameis Winston's.
Like, who else is like particularly?
[00:54:57] Speaker A: You haven't said the answer yet. So you're. You're like. It's good. It's good that you're giving me your top four or two through five. And then number one is coming up.
[00:55:07] Speaker B: Number five, you say?
[00:55:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:55:10] Speaker B: Is a gunslinger.
[00:55:13] Speaker A: He's not an active quarterback. I'll give you a little hint.
Yeah, that's your number five. Okay, so give us number one now.
[00:55:19] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:55:20] Speaker A: I really want you to get her.
[00:55:22] Speaker B: Oh, there's.
I'm gonna drop the ball here. I'm gonna.
[00:55:25] Speaker A: Some of these listeners are like.
[00:55:27] Speaker B: Ah.
[00:55:27] Speaker A: And they're saying it. Yelling it into their car as they're stuck on West Ave. And in construction.
[00:55:33] Speaker B: Okay, who would have been?
I don't know. So I. I haven't named him yet.
[00:55:41] Speaker A: How about. I'm pausing it. We'll come back to it. You might think of an answer. Okay.
[00:55:45] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:55:45] Speaker A: What about speed?
Greater than sign. Bruiser.
Okay, I'm gonna give you a hint. Wide receiver.
[00:55:52] Speaker B: Wide receiver.
[00:55:53] Speaker A: Speed.
[00:55:54] Speaker B: Bruiser.
[00:55:55] Speaker A: Nope. Speed. It's greater than sign. Like, so I'm taking a speed person.
[00:56:01] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:56:02] Speaker A: Comparatively. To a bruiser.
[00:56:04] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Tyree Kill.
Oh, nice. I get one. Oh, thank God.
Do I have to eat?
[00:56:11] Speaker A: Rip it open, Rip it open. Get us a little asmr. Have you had the Oreo Reese's, by the way.
[00:56:17] Speaker B: Have I.
[00:56:18] Speaker A: Stick it in your mouth.
[00:56:19] Speaker B: All right.
[00:56:21] Speaker A: It's great. By the way, I like the white chocolate on the top. All right. So good. NFL owner. All time.
[00:56:29] Speaker B: All time.
Who would you say?
Jerry Jones? No. Robert Kraft?
[00:56:38] Speaker A: Close. Al Davis.
[00:56:41] Speaker B: That's my third guess.
[00:56:42] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm sure. All right, how about a run first Quarterback.
Get in my Head get dirty. Okay. Slink around in the sewers.
[00:56:54] Speaker B: Randall Cunningham.
[00:56:56] Speaker A: No.
[00:56:56] Speaker B: Frick.
[00:56:57] Speaker A: No.
[00:56:57] Speaker B: Michael Vick.
[00:56:58] Speaker A: No.
[00:56:59] Speaker B: Frick.
[00:56:59] Speaker A: Jacoby Brissette. Duh.
[00:57:01] Speaker B: No. All right, stop.
[00:57:02] Speaker A: That's my answer.
Never won a quarter. Never won a Super Bowl.
[00:57:08] Speaker B: Philip Rivers.
[00:57:12] Speaker A: Dan Marino.
All right, what about a coach from the past? Just give me any coach from the past.
[00:57:20] Speaker B: Bill Parcels.
[00:57:21] Speaker A: John Gruden. Come on, dude. Come on. Come on.
It's easier when there's two guessers out here. You know, Ian would be saying, like,
[00:57:29] Speaker B: ah, you know, Caldwell.
[00:57:31] Speaker A: How about a diva wide receiver?
[00:57:34] Speaker B: Oh, that's a long list.
Who did you write down, though?
[00:57:39] Speaker A: And by the way, don't forget, we got to go back to gunslinger. It's coming up.
[00:57:42] Speaker B: Okay. Antonio Brown.
[00:57:44] Speaker A: Oh, I'm gonna let you have a second guess on this one because it's a fun one to get. To get deep in the mind of Marshall.
[00:57:51] Speaker B: In the mind of Marshall. I'm just thinking, like, who are your guys?
[00:57:54] Speaker A: You know? I like McDonald's. Right.
Tio, Shadow. Josenko. Come on.
[00:58:00] Speaker B: Dang it.
[00:58:00] Speaker A: Okay, the whole thing about how he ate, like, only McDonald's, you know, he had, like, the body by.
Okay, Gunslinger.
Right now, you're one for eight.
Nine. Sorry.
[00:58:15] Speaker B: Am I. That's. That's really bad.
[00:58:17] Speaker A: Well, one for eight. Potentially one for nine.
[00:58:19] Speaker B: These are surprisingly hard. Okay.
Who would it be?
[00:58:27] Speaker A: Can I. Should I give you a hint?
[00:58:29] Speaker B: I'll take one.
[00:58:30] Speaker A: He looks like a quarterback that would smoke cigarettes.
[00:58:34] Speaker B: Jay Cutler.
That was easy.
[00:58:42] Speaker A: That was good.
I like that. I hope. Hopefully our listeners were, like, yelling, jay Cutler in their car.
[00:58:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:48] Speaker A: Yeah. Kids are asleep in the backseat. Jay Cutler.
[00:58:51] Speaker B: JJ Cutler.
[00:58:54] Speaker A: And then the cigarette. Really put it out where the. No pun intended. Like you had to say Jay Cutler.
[00:59:00] Speaker B: Yes. Okay.
[00:59:02] Speaker A: All right. Let's address the elephant in the room.
[00:59:05] Speaker B: What's that?
[00:59:07] Speaker A: We missed Ian. We missed Ian. We're going to talk about our picks next week.
[00:59:12] Speaker B: Ian was at the Lions game. Yeah.
[00:59:14] Speaker A: I was hoping we get some, you know, correspondence on field. Correspondence. But, I mean, in real, you know, Anderson Cooper fashion. We don't get it. It's behind a paywall. So.
[00:59:25] Speaker B: So what we need to do is actually talk about that game, but only talk about the.
[00:59:29] Speaker A: Actually preferred not to talk about the Lions the entire time, knowing that we didn't talk about it.
[00:59:33] Speaker B: Okay, let's talk about the Jets. I feel like the Jets.
[00:59:36] Speaker A: Gino.
[00:59:37] Speaker B: Are now having the most competent quarterback play they have had in years. You tell me, when was the last time they had better quarterback play than
[00:59:45] Speaker A: they've been Getting Chad Pennington, Mark Sanchez.
[00:59:48] Speaker B: I will. Which is 10 plus years at this point.
[00:59:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:54] Speaker B: I genuinely think.
[00:59:56] Speaker A: How bad were the Raiders last year?
[00:59:58] Speaker B: Extremely. Extremely.
[01:00:01] Speaker A: How bad was Pete Carroll?
We talk a lot about coaching and how coaching is like when we don't have an answer to something, we give coach all the credit.
[01:00:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:09] Speaker A: And then when we think we know something, we don't get the coach any credit at all. Pete Carroll, who looks like a mask that somebody would put on to rob a bank.
[01:00:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:19] Speaker A: Like.
[01:00:21] Speaker B: Right.
[01:00:21] Speaker A: He must have. He must have just seen the money and been like, I'm going to go in there and just take this and get out.
[01:00:27] Speaker B: The stories of their offensive scheming and bringing in.
What the heck is that guy's name?
The most highest paid off to Kelly. The highest paid offensive coordinator in football.
[01:00:42] Speaker A: Currently coordinator for Northwestern.
[01:00:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:00:46] Speaker A: I wouldn't even want him coordinating.
[01:00:47] Speaker B: Northwest.
[01:00:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:49] Speaker B: Here. Here in town.
Exactly. Incredible. Allegedly. He was literally calling plays in games that were never practiced again. We. We knew that they had the worst offensive line in the.
[01:01:01] Speaker A: We're an hour and we finally got jets talking here.
Somebody in the mid market of New York is ecstatic.
[01:01:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Abysmal. They did see some injuries, but terrible coaching, terrible offensive scheming, terrible execution at every level.
And they won. Clint Kubiak has already won as many games as Pete Carroll did.
[01:01:23] Speaker A: Wow.
We're very heavy into the Raider. This is a very heavy Raiders episode.
[01:01:28] Speaker B: That's okay.
[01:01:28] Speaker A: Very heavy.
[01:01:29] Speaker B: It'll happen.
[01:01:30] Speaker A: Chargers episode.
[01:01:31] Speaker B: But I was delighted to see some vindication because I've been standing by my boy Gino.
[01:01:39] Speaker A: Oh, geez.
[01:01:39] Speaker B: He's my guy ever since he became one of my favorite players. Maybe he is my favorite player. I. I don't know. He's up there very high. But did you see his stat line for yesterday?
[01:01:51] Speaker A: Hit me with it.
[01:01:52] Speaker B: He went 31 of 37 for the highest completion percentage in a regular season game. I think for like 20 plus passes that the jets have ever had.
[01:02:04] Speaker A: Some might say you could have thrown that against that coverage. Well, it was almost like they were running on paper.
[01:02:11] Speaker B: The coverage was bad, but he still made some big plays. He still made through three touchdown passes, no interceptions, and over an 85 completion percentage. And led that team with grit all the way down. Calvin shepherd called up with grit.
[01:02:31] Speaker A: Thank you. Thank you for that.
[01:02:32] Speaker B: Okay. All right. All right. I think it was interesting to see what the jets look like with competent quarterback play.
[01:02:40] Speaker A: Do you know right now they're slated to get the tenth, the eighth and the sixth, sixth pick overall?
[01:02:48] Speaker B: Fascinating. The future could be weird for the Jets.
[01:02:52] Speaker A: Three first round picks in one draft is a swing of talent that could.
I mean, do you think Aaron Glenn lasts the season?
[01:03:03] Speaker B: They've got to win a few games. I genuinely think. I think that this isn't a hot take in this room, but black coaches don't get as long. You get two seasons.
[01:03:13] Speaker A: My mind just blew.
[01:03:15] Speaker B: At the most, I think white coaches will get three seasons. Black coaches will get two seasons. That's usually the patience that owners have. And that's. That's just the facts.
So.
[01:03:24] Speaker A: I genuinely love those owners, don't you?
[01:03:26] Speaker B: Owners are. They're the literal scum of the earth.
[01:03:30] Speaker A: I'm gonna try and find a few things next week that you may hate more than owners.
[01:03:33] Speaker B: It's probably possible. They're still human beings at the end of the day.
[01:03:37] Speaker A: Don't give the listeners any hints.
[01:03:38] Speaker B: It's not like I've.
[01:03:39] Speaker A: We're gonna get some things next week that you hate more.
[01:03:42] Speaker B: It's a challenge that you really don't need to pursue. I don't know how productive it would be.
[01:03:46] Speaker A: It'll be fun.
[01:03:47] Speaker B: I'm enjoying it.
[01:03:48] Speaker A: I'll do a while mowing the lawn.
[01:03:50] Speaker B: Yes, you try and.
Because it will be very fun for you to try and stand up for those billionaires.
[01:03:56] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:03:56] Speaker B: You go outside, you try and tell me how. How many redeeming qualities they have and be on their side if they sponsor our podcast.
[01:04:05] Speaker A: I love the owners and as will you. And I will make you.
[01:04:10] Speaker B: Hey, I'll take the money.
[01:04:11] Speaker A: Shout out to Rex Grossman being more of a game manager than Peyton Manning.
[01:04:16] Speaker B: Okay, fine.
[01:04:17] Speaker A: All right. My favorite moment of the day.
[01:04:19] Speaker B: What do you want from me?
[01:04:20] Speaker A: But I will tell you. The Tyree Kill really quick was good by you.
[01:04:23] Speaker B: That was easy. Yeah, that was that. You gave me an easy one.
[01:04:26] Speaker A: Any other categories? You're like. I'd be curious what Marshall's answer would be for that.
Goshiever was up there for me.
[01:04:33] Speaker B: Name. Okay, let's do name the same thing.
First round draft bust.
[01:04:43] Speaker A: You want to say it on the count of three?
[01:04:46] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay.
[01:04:47] Speaker A: This is one, two, three. Jamarcus Russell.
[01:04:51] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[01:04:52] Speaker A: That was a good.
[01:04:52] Speaker B: Jamarcus Russell would be like the poster child.
[01:04:55] Speaker A: Ryan Lee. For my second pick.
[01:04:57] Speaker B: I was really like the most.
[01:04:59] Speaker A: Maybe Zach Wells, contemporary like Zach Wilson
[01:05:04] Speaker B: is probably a better one.
[01:05:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Trey Lance makes me smile though. Somebody lost.
They had bought one of his rookie cards that was signed PSA 10 for $15,000. And it was moving up to appraisal by the end of the month when he had bought it to 64,000, he could have sold it for, you know, 40 plus thousand dollars.
[01:05:24] Speaker B: Incredible.
[01:05:25] Speaker A: And right now it's valued at. The same owner has it for $230 right now.
[01:05:30] Speaker B: Wow.
[01:05:31] Speaker A: Wow. It's quite the swing.
[01:05:33] Speaker B: I'm looking forward to his comeback. Like, if. If he follows the G, if he follows the Geno trajectory.
[01:05:39] Speaker A: You can't do that to me.
[01:05:40] Speaker B: He's gonna just imagine we go like 5 more seasons, forget Zach Wilson even existed, and then he comes out, starts for a team, and sets franchise record.
[01:05:51] Speaker A: Some might say that's what Cam Ward's gonna do.
[01:05:53] Speaker B: It could happen. Absolutely.
[01:05:55] Speaker A: Some say Cam Ward probably did that in college.
[01:05:59] Speaker B: He's gonna get a lot of playing time. You get. You give those number one picks, like, an incredible amount of development time.
[01:06:05] Speaker A: They're basically like the white owners.
[01:06:07] Speaker B: I really think we have not talked about Bryce Young on this podcast hardly at all. But is he one of the better, more fun stories of the 2026 regular season?
[01:06:16] Speaker A: I've enjoyed him.
[01:06:17] Speaker B: Tell me it's not. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that's not a great story.
[01:06:22] Speaker A: All right, you're wrong. He's too short.
[01:06:24] Speaker B: Good grief. He's leading the league in passing yards right now. And Tyler Shock, I think, is second.
[01:06:30] Speaker A: Ah, I am a mother shucker.
[01:06:33] Speaker B: Are you really?
[01:06:34] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, big time.
[01:06:35] Speaker B: Are you?
Maybe you can. You can do that. You can find it in your heart to do. To do that.
[01:06:41] Speaker A: I like the shuckster.
[01:06:42] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. I'm feeling it. I think that the Saints are kind of interesting, but I am. I think Bryce Young is becoming like one of those fun examples of, like, the. The amount of time it takes for a lot of players to adjust to the pro level, find their groove, and show us what we thought they had when they came out of college.
[01:07:02] Speaker A: Show us who they thought we were.
[01:07:04] Speaker B: There's a. There's a lot of, like.
It feels like it's been surprising. I was reflecting on this just the other day, how many, like, players we saw have great rookie seasons. The Jaden Daniels, the Justin Herbert's, the C.J. strouds, and going back a lot. There's a strong history of, like, breakout stars that we thought would take the game by storm and be winning MVPs and championships by now. None of that has materialized for any of those guys. And some of them are having really bad years. Drake may, you know, but.
Yeah, I said. I said, Jane, I know.
[01:07:34] Speaker A: And they're reiterating how awful his year has been mostly because of his arm going the other way.
[01:07:39] Speaker B: Right. That's, that's. You can excuse him for the, for the injuries, but there's also just as many guys who like looked really rough, really like underdeveloped, rough around the edges in their initial seasons and then find themselves later on. And there's. I think that there's a bunch of guys playing in the league right now who needed a lot of time and we're fortunate to be one of the few who got it.
I think there's, there's players like Kirk Cousins, you know, Jared Goff. Jared Goff. I think that these are guys who by their circumstances and maybe their draft position are good examples of like getting.
Being blessed with a lot of time on the field and benefiting from that and maturing into highly competent, highly functional, consistent, reliable players.
That doesn't mean that they're winning MVPs and championships, but that means they are, they are deserving of a starting job in the league and highly serviceable and can feel the great offense and it takes a lot of time. And I think that there's an under appreciated number of guys who just like literally didn't get that chance, didn't get enough reps for us to really unequivocally speak to their potential.
We very quickly write them off as a bust after we've seen a quarter. We say that they're a big success after, you know, they had a decent rookie season, etc. We're quick to.
[01:09:08] Speaker A: And Geno probably is the answer of
[01:09:11] Speaker B: answers to that I really can't think of. Think about it.
[01:09:14] Speaker A: He got punched in the face by the Jets.
[01:09:16] Speaker B: He was relegated to a backup role for pushing a decade.
It's truly a forgotten player. Everyone who even knew who he was was like, I can't believe he's still in the league.
[01:09:29] Speaker A: Sam Darnold was known for having a promo that just said his name and mono.
[01:09:35] Speaker B: Yeah, Sam Donald is another great example.
[01:09:39] Speaker A: If maybe it's just jets quarterbacks. What about this?
[01:09:43] Speaker B: That's another theory. Zach Wilson could be Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Aaron Rodgers.
Mike White could come back.
[01:09:54] Speaker A: That just made me smile.
[01:09:56] Speaker B: Mike F and White.
[01:09:57] Speaker A: Anything else you want to leave our listeners with before they smile and walk away?
[01:10:01] Speaker B: Did we get through everything in our. In our little.
[01:10:03] Speaker A: Everything in here?
[01:10:05] Speaker B: No way. We did. We did a good job. Well, I'm thankful to you. I'm thankful for these, for this opportunity to humiliate myself on the airways. We're gonna delete this episode, not publish it. That's our agreement.
And I'm gonna eat these Reese's Oreos.
[01:10:21] Speaker A: We're gonna keep these Reese's Oreos here, by the way.
[01:10:23] Speaker B: Okay?
[01:10:24] Speaker A: And so it's going to test two things. One, self control.
Two, will you get better at this game, or will Ian get all these Oreos ahead of you?
[01:10:35] Speaker B: Okay.
All right.
[01:10:40] Speaker A: I didn't like that last week. You guys, you know, started talking, trying to be me while I was up here, you know. Oh, what does Marshall say? He said stuff like this. Oh, yeah, you said stuff like that. You say stuff like this while I'm talking? No, come on. I do a lot more than that. Thank the listeners.
I mean, they're using their time, their days.
Say hello to us. Like, hello. Is it me you're looking for?
All right, guys, talk to you soon.
By the way, Justin, I think Kyler Murray took steroids for his concussion.
Allegedly.
See ya.
