[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to the Point after show with [00:00:02] Speaker B: Kyle Maurer, Marshall heslaw, and Ian DeWitt. This is the show where the guys attempt to pick the winners of the weekly NFL games, along with some healthy debate about current topics. Let's go. [00:00:13] Speaker A: Let's go. Ian, how are you? [00:00:15] Speaker C: I'm okay. [00:00:17] Speaker A: Oh, just okay? [00:00:18] Speaker D: Don't be sad. What's the matter? [00:00:20] Speaker C: I don't know what to do. Guys. [00:00:24] Speaker A: Something's the matter with you. [00:00:25] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:00:25] Speaker C: No. All right. I'm all right. I'm all right. Okay. [00:00:28] Speaker A: Well, that was a breakdown for us. [00:00:33] Speaker D: The Lions won. [00:00:35] Speaker C: Yeah, they did. [00:00:36] Speaker D: What would we be sad about? [00:00:37] Speaker C: The first quarter was pretty depressing. [00:00:40] Speaker D: Okay, stop. We're not. We're not starting the pod like that. [00:00:44] Speaker A: I see you at the orange Oreos. The Halloween ones. You're a big fan of those. [00:00:48] Speaker C: What do they taste like? [00:00:49] Speaker D: Let me see what they are. Oreos. [00:00:50] Speaker A: So just traditional Oreo? [00:00:53] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like the flavor is slightly different. [00:00:56] Speaker A: Okay. [00:00:57] Speaker D: I love them all. I'm so into them. My kids got me a birthday cake, Oreos, the other day. [00:01:03] Speaker A: Happy belated birthday, by the way. [00:01:05] Speaker D: Thank you. You're too kind. [00:01:07] Speaker A: That's for you. [00:01:10] Speaker C: I'm trying to figure out what that flavor is. [00:01:12] Speaker D: Chocolate's orange dye. [00:01:14] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. [00:01:15] Speaker C: Am I gonna die Orange again? [00:01:18] Speaker D: Different kind of die. I going to the kind that's good for you, for your soul. [00:01:21] Speaker C: Turn orange. [00:01:22] Speaker A: Germaine. [00:01:23] Speaker D: Die. Oh, like in that episode of Magic School Bus. [00:01:25] Speaker C: Am I turning orange here? [00:01:27] Speaker D: Please don't do that on our podcast. We have strict rules here. [00:01:34] Speaker A: Let's get to our question of the day, Kyle. Question of the day. Let's hear it. [00:01:39] Speaker D: When you were kids, this. My kids get asked this sort of thing. We were kids. You're asked this, like, what do you want to be when you grow up? What. What's your earliest memory of something that was a coherent response to that question as a kid? Oh, when I grow up, I think I want to be. What do you got? [00:01:55] Speaker A: I did my first project in middle school, and I was an eighth grader, and I wrote that I wanted to be a stand up comedian. [00:02:01] Speaker D: Are you serious? [00:02:02] Speaker A: Yeah. And the worst part was I, like, went and, like, said to do, like, this whole poster board, like, okay, what. What description is what? Like, qualifications, what the pay is okay. And then I went and did stand up comedy in front of my entire school as a middle schooler. [00:02:23] Speaker D: No way. [00:02:24] Speaker C: That's gutsy. How did it go? [00:02:25] Speaker A: I flopped. [00:02:28] Speaker D: I can't believe an 8th grader would flop on this first try. [00:02:32] Speaker A: I made this really funny joke about, come on, it's not I am Marshall, it's We are Marshall. And then I had a We are Marshall T shirt, and I threw it out to the crowd, and of course, my cousin caught it and he was just like, ah. And then like, this is the best part. It's the only laugh I got, because the guy behind me, I did it with a buddy of mine. He was funny. Of course, everybody loved him. He didn't want to be a stand up comedian. He's, like, wanted to be an engineer, and now he's a lawyer. [00:02:55] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:02:56] Speaker A: Well, after I told that joke, you literally hear one of the guys is doing a room, like the. Like an actual rim shop. I'm like, love that. Oh, my God, it was awful. Like, I still to this day remember leaving the gym where I did this stand up comedy skit and like, entering my classroom again after that, because I didn't, like, go out into the crowd afterwards. I was in, like, the back. Didn't really talk to anybody. [00:03:25] Speaker D: Okay. [00:03:25] Speaker A: And I just sat my head down and no one came up to me. It's the most cringy thing, stand up. I'd lasted a whole. Oh, it's like seven weeks. [00:03:35] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:03:35] Speaker C: Stand up comedy is hard. [00:03:37] Speaker D: Extraordinary. [00:03:38] Speaker A: You have to, like, you got to be able to fail. [00:03:40] Speaker D: You do. Like, a lot of times. A lot of times. And that's the thing, because I want to know what the effect was on you. Like, did. [00:03:46] Speaker A: Did you say, I'll never do it again? [00:03:49] Speaker D: Okay, see, that's the thing. [00:03:50] Speaker A: That's why I knew I wasn't meant for stand up comedy. As I got older and realized you had to fail and that even comedians will go tell the same joke 40 different times and 30 of them, people will laugh. And 10 of them people, people look at them like they're crazy. [00:04:03] Speaker C: It's all about the audience. You have to know the audience. Like, I like the we are Marshall joke would have been. I think that's. Was that right around with it, right around the movie. I was gonna say, was it a huge movie, though, when it came out? [00:04:22] Speaker A: It's Matthew McConaughey. [00:04:23] Speaker C: Yeah, I know, but enough. [00:04:25] Speaker D: It's in the zeitgeist at the time. [00:04:26] Speaker A: Ah, good zeitgeist. [00:04:28] Speaker D: Yeah. I feel like the. When I reached adulthood and started descending the stage with regularity, my experience was as soon as I stepped off, all I could think about was how I need to get back up there and do it better. I need another shot. Like, every single time. [00:04:50] Speaker C: Did you stand up? [00:04:52] Speaker D: I'VE never done like, what I would classify as true standup. But I have done a lot of speeches that were loaded, heavily, joke loaded [00:05:01] Speaker A: for a variety of. [00:05:02] Speaker D: Have you ever been. [00:05:03] Speaker A: Have you ever been stood up? [00:05:05] Speaker D: What do you mean by stood up? [00:05:07] Speaker A: Stand up. Get it? [00:05:08] Speaker D: Oh, gosh. Gosh. [00:05:09] Speaker C: Gosh. One of the things I. I think I'm very good at public speaking and humble. [00:05:17] Speaker D: You've given a commencement speech. [00:05:19] Speaker C: I have. [00:05:20] Speaker D: Gosh. [00:05:20] Speaker C: It went quite well too. [00:05:21] Speaker A: Is that on your bucket list of speeches? [00:05:23] Speaker D: Well, I don't think I could put it on my bucket list because I. I doubt it doesn't seem conceivable that I could ever get that. [00:05:28] Speaker A: You might have. I didn't graduate traditional school graduate the homeschool life. [00:05:32] Speaker D: I could give the commencement speech at my own kids graduation, I suppose for them homeschool. But I didn't go to a school. Like, I've never even attended a commencement speech. [00:05:41] Speaker A: Abigail, you have graduated top of your class. [00:05:44] Speaker D: I've done all the others. Lots of best man speeches. I've been usual eulogies. I've been a keynote speaker. I've done all the other. I feel like the majority of the best man speaks. [00:05:52] Speaker A: I'm excited. I want to do that one day. [00:05:54] Speaker D: Lots of those. Super fun. [00:05:55] Speaker C: I think I have an advantage, though, in the fact that I literally, for a living, stand up in front of people, have to talk pretty much the entire time. [00:06:04] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:06:05] Speaker C: I have had a lot of practice being able to draw something out and be denied. Like. No, no, no. Like draw. Like, we'll have like tons of practice. [00:06:21] Speaker A: And we podcast and you open the segments with. I'm. [00:06:25] Speaker C: Okay. [00:06:27] Speaker D: Okay. [00:06:27] Speaker C: I'm just like. That's something I'm. I think I'm pretty decent at. [00:06:31] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:06:31] Speaker A: So what was your first job that you would tell people? [00:06:33] Speaker C: I think the first thing that I ever actually really thought I would be interested in doing was something more along, like theater production. [00:06:42] Speaker A: The theater. [00:06:44] Speaker C: Like, whether that was being on stage as an actor or like being like a stage manager. [00:06:50] Speaker A: Stage manager. I had a friend of mine that was a stage manager, probably in college for about. [00:06:53] Speaker C: I think I would actually be a pretty good st. Manager. I'm a pretty organized human being and [00:06:58] Speaker D: I. I like, was a part of your history. I didn't know you had like a background in improv theater. [00:07:03] Speaker C: I was on the improv troupe at Lumen and. [00:07:05] Speaker A: Oh, I watched it back in the day before Ian and I knew each other. I got invited to improv night as a freshman. [00:07:13] Speaker D: Okay. [00:07:13] Speaker A: And I remembered seeing all these cool seniors that was him. [00:07:18] Speaker D: You would have been a senior when. Okay, okay, okay. [00:07:22] Speaker C: Were we funny? [00:07:23] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I bet you were funny. [00:07:24] Speaker D: You probably had a lot of like great characters that you could do of arm flaring. [00:07:29] Speaker A: I don't think inflatable still happened. [00:07:32] Speaker C: I don't think I could do standup. That's not my like style of comedy. [00:07:36] Speaker D: Okay. [00:07:37] Speaker C: But giving me a character, I could easily live within that. [00:07:42] Speaker D: Totally. Yeah, yeah. You're more in the Robin Williams vein of. [00:07:46] Speaker C: And I did a. I mean I was like in a. The musical in plays too. [00:07:52] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:07:53] Speaker C: I wouldn't. [00:07:53] Speaker A: We guess Kyle's. By the way. [00:07:55] Speaker C: But I did have a pretty substantial part in the musical. [00:07:59] Speaker D: Oh, okay. [00:07:59] Speaker C: I had a whole song I had to sing. [00:08:01] Speaker D: Was it Cats? [00:08:02] Speaker C: No. [00:08:02] Speaker D: Were you in Cat? Were you singing in Cats? [00:08:04] Speaker A: James Gordon. Okay, okay. My guess for Kyle, it's between two. Okay, okay, okay. Either a farmer, because I could just like see you living out in Parma and saying I'm gonna be a farmer. Or I could see you going like the exact opposite. Like I'd never hear a six year old say this word, but I could hear you saying it as a six year old. Even though we didn't know each other when you were six. [00:08:28] Speaker D: Right. Entrepreneur. Oh wow. [00:08:30] Speaker A: Kyle, six year old saying I'm gonna be an entrepreneur. [00:08:33] Speaker C: He wanted to be Gandalf. [00:08:34] Speaker D: That's my guess. Oh, well accomplished. [00:08:38] Speaker C: You're a wizard, Harry. [00:08:39] Speaker D: I did, I did portray Harry Gandalf. There's hours of footage of me portraying. [00:08:44] Speaker A: This is true. [00:08:44] Speaker D: Yes. [00:08:45] Speaker C: What did you want to be for your first job? [00:08:47] Speaker D: A zookeeper. [00:08:48] Speaker A: Oh, okay. [00:08:49] Speaker D: I was really into animals, so that would be my first like. Yeah. [00:08:52] Speaker C: Would easily still do that in my adult life. [00:08:55] Speaker D: So pre everything, pre teenager would have been like zookeeper. [00:08:59] Speaker C: I think when I've thought of like, oh man, if you could do it all over again, what would you do? I think I would probably go down like the health fitness route and I would try to be like in like the Lions organization as like one of their med staff. [00:09:14] Speaker D: Oh, wow. Oh yeah. Work your way in. [00:09:17] Speaker A: Would have loved be good for their secondary God. [00:09:22] Speaker C: Yeah, they need prayers is what they. [00:09:25] Speaker A: Well, we got a couple questions from our listeners and a little shout out to the commission. She's going to be up here first a little apology from me. I had messed up our recording last week and this time I'm sure that it will be working perfectly and commission know that that wasn't intentional and we apologize and if there's mess ups, you can blame it on me. All Right here was the Commish. [00:09:51] Speaker B: This is Adam Silver, AKA the Commish. And this is the commission report. What started as a great weekend got even better. It was a great game, in my opinion. Started well, but, you know, there were some hiccups. I even predicted and called that first interception out loud before the ball was thrown, for which my son heard me say it. I just wish I had selected that on my Kalshi account. Could have been an even better day, if you know what I mean. Moving on. Nothing to look at from the stats other than the multiple turnovers by both teams. Not great there. I will say that Mike Evans is the best pickup in the off season and thankfully in the game. With majority of the team's receivers out of the game or injured during the game, the big story of the game was of course, defense. What a performance. Grace Halton had an amazing day and stepped up when needed without Bosa and without the ejected Green Law. Solid pressure on Darnold all day. Five sacks, great stuff. Two bad calls, one on each side, but the win is a win. 5 and oh, my friends, home next week against Washington, which is a real chance to stack another win. That's right. Hashtag King of the West. This was the commission report. [00:11:01] Speaker C: I can't believe they're 5 050, the 49ers. I. Yeah, their team feels like it probably shouldn't be, but it is. [00:11:09] Speaker D: They're playing great, great football. [00:11:11] Speaker C: They are. [00:11:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Brock Purdy Favor favorite to be the MVP at plus 280 right now. [00:11:17] Speaker C: I love MVP odds on week five. [00:11:21] Speaker D: Week five. [00:11:22] Speaker C: We live for that. [00:11:22] Speaker D: I mean, the season's not that long, so five weeks in, it's already like things are happening that matter already getting. I was looking at it today. I genuinely think it's still like there are like eight to ten guys who could win it. The. The MVP award is very, very far from a sure thing and I genuinely think there are that many guys. [00:11:45] Speaker C: Drake May is turning it around. [00:11:46] Speaker D: So he wasn't even on my list. Not even in those 10 guys. [00:11:51] Speaker C: He's turning it around, but not Justin Herbert. [00:11:55] Speaker D: Oh, poor guy. Everybody says he'll have his moment, but when will he? Will he? Now he's got to start to question [00:12:04] Speaker C: just to before we pivot. That was my fault. The Niners okay. [00:12:09] Speaker A: How, by the way, he's not wrong about Mike Evans. [00:12:14] Speaker C: No, Mike Evans working out fantastic. [00:12:17] Speaker A: It's been a great pickup for them. This is probably the first I felt like standout game for him. But a good thing to note about Brock Purdy. I'm continuing to eat. I just eat my words on him after the next 3p. He'll throw five passes next Monday night. Okay. And then he will officially qualify for the all time ranks amongst quarterbacks. And amongst those quarterback stats, he will be number one in passer rating all time, number one in yards per attempt. All time, and number one in adjacent net yards per attempt. Like that's huge. Like I, I gotta eat it. He's number one in lots of advanced statistics in the NFL. [00:13:03] Speaker C: He's one of those guys we were just talking about this before the pod that you don't always. They're not the flashiest, but man, can they throw a dot. Like they're, they're so good at throwing the ball. And that's not always, it's not always the easiest thing to notice. [00:13:27] Speaker A: I know what he's really saying next. Right. I know where he's leading with that one. [00:13:33] Speaker C: No, but it's just there's plenty of quarterbacks that are in the league that when you look at them like when you look at, when you talk about Josh Allen Stafford, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar, they're flashy. And I mean like their measurables are very obvious what they bring to the team because they do a lot. [00:13:58] Speaker D: Right, right, right. [00:13:59] Speaker C: But then you have guys like pie, [00:14:02] Speaker A: Jordan Love, man, I got to disagree. I think Jordan Love was very flashy yesterday. And maybe it was because they were playing Ben Johnson, but La Flor wanted to throw every deep ball that he could. [00:14:13] Speaker C: But my point is, like, you have quarterbacks like that that maybe are not always the flashiest in terms of like with their feet or doing like the craziest athletic thing known to man, but man, they're really good pocket passers. And you see a lot of these guys for as much as people want to say like the age of the pocket passers. Done. How many of these mobile quarterbacks have we watched over the course of their career transition to exactly that because of the longevity that a pocket passer has compared to the guys who are constantly running. Lamar is a perfect, perfect example of this, by the way. [00:14:56] Speaker A: Whoa. [00:14:56] Speaker C: He is perfect. [00:14:58] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:14:58] Speaker C: In one. Because he's trying to change his game because of the injuries. How many the guy's been out again. Right. And I'm not saying that's his fault. I'm like, he's good at running. I'm not saying like the sprain or whatever happened is like necessarily, you know, whatever. But he has had injuries because he puts himself in positions where he's Running around all the time. And he has been trying to transition into a more pocket passer and then only relying on his legs when the pre. The play breaks down. Right. I think Jackson Dart has a lot to learn in this category. [00:15:38] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:15:38] Speaker C: Because he doesn't know how to protect himself. He's constantly been injured. And I just think, like, I don't think the age of the pocket passer's done. I think if anything, we're seeing it be proven that like. No, you. [00:15:52] Speaker A: That's a good pod name, by the way. The age of the pocket passer. I just, I like that as a name. [00:15:58] Speaker C: Spiel. That's my spiel. [00:15:59] Speaker A: It's a good spiel. I thought you were going to transition to golf. And I'll eat my words on him as well. I talked a lot of crap about him in an unrecorded podcast that just happened between Kyle and Ian and I watching football one night and I looked. I got a little stat here for you. I'll let you, you know, kick me in the face. Jared Goff ranks in the NFL since 2023. So that's a minimum of 50 games played. Okay. [00:16:23] Speaker D: Okay. [00:16:24] Speaker A: First in passer rating, first in passing touchdowns, first in completion percentage, first in pass success rate. First in quarterback wins, even though I don't really count quarterbacks wins as a stat. And first in game winning drives. [00:16:37] Speaker D: Remarkable. [00:16:38] Speaker C: He's good. [00:16:38] Speaker A: Speaking of game winning drives, Huntley has. He's 10 in the over in overtime. Josh Allen, 07. [00:16:47] Speaker C: I'm not gonna lie. [00:16:48] Speaker A: What made you laugh. [00:16:49] Speaker D: Oh, and seven in overtime. [00:16:50] Speaker C: No way. Yeah. [00:16:52] Speaker A: Yeah. I got some great stats today. I'm just gonna start shocking. Can I roll a couple others? Wins after trailing in the final eight minutes. [00:16:59] Speaker D: Okay. [00:16:59] Speaker A: Tyler Huntley, four, Joe Burrow, one. That's all time. [00:17:04] Speaker C: All time. [00:17:05] Speaker A: This could be funny. These small ones. [00:17:07] Speaker C: Yep. This is clearly Huntley's mvp, right? That's what you're telling me? [00:17:11] Speaker A: I'll give you another one. [00:17:12] Speaker D: I'll be at a Pro Bowl. [00:17:13] Speaker A: I got an MVP for you. Justin Herbert, seven interceptions. Drake May, seven interceptions. Stafford, six, Darnold five, Allen three, Burrow three, Dak three. Trevor Lawrence, three. Knicks three. Love three, Hurts three. C.J. stroud, zero. And they are zero and four. [00:17:31] Speaker C: No, no, no. They're one in four. And they have Marvin Harrison Jr. Now, [00:17:39] Speaker A: so he's got his. [00:17:40] Speaker D: Watch out. [00:17:41] Speaker A: Did you see the video of when Marvin Harrison Jr. Was drafted? And he's like, I. I practiced a lot with that guy. He's amazing. [00:17:49] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:17:49] Speaker A: Like he was on Mike Part Micah Parsons draft coverage. Watching live the picks. And that's. I think the more and more you see that, the more fun it'll be. [00:18:00] Speaker D: There are only three quarterbacks left in the league this season who haven't thrown a pick yet. And that's. That is golf and Stroud and my boy. [00:18:09] Speaker C: Oh, Gino. [00:18:10] Speaker A: That's right. [00:18:11] Speaker C: The combined records of those teams is not even that good. Only one team has a winning record in that category. [00:18:19] Speaker A: You know that every team in the north right now is over 500. AFC north and NFC North. [00:18:24] Speaker D: Remarkable. A hard start for a couple of those teams, for sure. [00:18:28] Speaker C: Do you want to know my least favorite division? Can I just transition? This is a fun stat. [00:18:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:34] Speaker C: NFC East. I hate that team. I hate those. [00:18:37] Speaker D: It's pretty bad right now. It's bleak. [00:18:39] Speaker C: The Giants, which I don't even think are a very good team, but I love them. [00:18:45] Speaker A: Okay. [00:18:45] Speaker C: Are three one and one. [00:18:47] Speaker A: It's a riddle that yesterday all of the teams in the NFC east lost or did not win and two of them played each other. How do you do that? [00:18:58] Speaker C: My beef with the NFC East. They are full of incompetency over there. They have two coaches that are crazy incompetent as far as I'm concerned. [00:19:10] Speaker D: Are you talking Dan Quinn and Nick Sirianni? [00:19:14] Speaker C: Nick Sirianni for sure. Maybe not Dan Quinn. [00:19:18] Speaker D: Fumbling that end of that game. Somebody should get fired because you gave away a win and you need. [00:19:25] Speaker C: Need those. I have a hard time blaming the coach. When Jaden Daniels should have threw that ball away, He. He screwed that up to. You can't tell me the play call came in. [00:19:39] Speaker D: What are they even doing? They could have gotten it off sooner. [00:19:42] Speaker A: And it went in short and slow. I mean, they got the huddle with 40 seconds left. [00:19:48] Speaker D: They gotta understand the potential here. That was so mismanage. [00:19:53] Speaker C: I just don't want to let Jaden Daniels off the hook. [00:19:55] Speaker A: I saw a tweet yesterday that Daniels, out of, you know, respect for the number five, ensured that no one on that field would win week five. [00:20:10] Speaker D: I do think, to your point, like a veteran, the savvy veteran quarterback would never let that happen. [00:20:14] Speaker C: He. The play, bro. And he should have immediately got rid of that thing. Yeah, he should have. And then he took a sack and then stayed on the ground. [00:20:26] Speaker D: Absurd. [00:20:26] Speaker C: He did not move. He kind of was like 2, 3 seconds, which at that point in the game is like, get off the ground. [00:20:37] Speaker D: Amazing. [00:20:37] Speaker C: Sorry. [00:20:38] Speaker A: He was kind of held down a little bit, too. I mean, there's something to be said that that that is a very veteran defensive move to just lay on him. To just lay on him. [00:20:46] Speaker C: But I watched that, watch the replay. That dude does not move. [00:20:51] Speaker A: He doesn't help us. [00:20:52] Speaker C: And we gave Dak and the Cowboys the all the crap in the world when they screwed it up. Very similar fashion in the playoffs. [00:21:01] Speaker D: Oh, right, right. [00:21:02] Speaker C: This need they. He deserves to own that. I don't actually know. [00:21:09] Speaker D: Maybe he did take an accountability and [00:21:10] Speaker A: so is the coach, Jaden Daniels. Would I say he took accountability? I wouldn't say that. If you go listen to his interview post game, he, he is a mushmouth. Like I'm telling you, this is where you pause this show and go listen to it. [00:21:29] Speaker C: Okay. [00:21:29] Speaker A: He sounds like he has quarters in his mouth. Okay. Yeah, but, but one of our listeners, Justin Manson, writes in how long is the leash for Nick Sirianni, first time in NFL history to have two games above.97 percentage within the last minute of the game. Winning percentage chance. [00:21:48] Speaker D: Like winning. Yeah, right. [00:21:50] Speaker A: And they lose. Like the kicker was interviewed after the game and said my coach told me to put it in play. [00:21:59] Speaker C: What? [00:21:59] Speaker A: And the coach said, oh, because of the kick return. [00:22:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:22:02] Speaker A: The rule is put, I mean in like if you put it through the end zone, it's on the 35. But then they're playing the hook and ladder in that play. [00:22:13] Speaker D: Did they convert a third down this week? Because last week they were over 12 on third downs. [00:22:18] Speaker C: How many? [00:22:19] Speaker D: Pretty amazing. [00:22:19] Speaker A: I'm assuming that they did. I. I don't have the first down stat. [00:22:23] Speaker D: Can you get, can you get us on that? [00:22:26] Speaker A: The Eagles are at a struggle and this is going to be a kind of a shot at a few different teams. So sorry, Justin Manson, I know that Your team had a 90 percentage blitz rate this this weekend, but the 2026 Dolphins have the worst offense success rate for any team through week five in the last five seasons. That's 160 out of 160 teams. [00:22:47] Speaker C: Do you think they're going to go, [00:22:48] Speaker A: wow, The Vikings are 157th this year. This year. And they're undefeated. And The Eagles are 156th this year's team. [00:22:59] Speaker D: This is, that's a lot to process. Right now the Dolphins, Eagles and Vikings [00:23:04] Speaker A: are performing top five worst atrocious historically for an offense. [00:23:10] Speaker C: So these aren't just bad offenses. These are historically bad offenses. [00:23:14] Speaker A: But it then put it into effect of like the Cardinals now have a 17 game sample size without having Kyler Murray. They are 2 and 5 with a minus 194 in the 17 games. They played so somehow they're better. Their offensive success rate during that time is better than those three teams. The Dolphins. [00:23:38] Speaker D: Oh, I see. [00:23:40] Speaker A: I'm throwing a lot at you right now. [00:23:42] Speaker D: I'm sorry. And I would get out for the sake of Justin. I would say that I think the offense is gaining a little bit of ground and looked a lot better this week than in the past. So there's reason for optimism. [00:23:53] Speaker C: Here's. [00:23:53] Speaker D: They're turning the corner offensively. [00:23:55] Speaker C: The only team out of the there that has any excuses, the Dolphins. They. They blew up that team blatantly tanking. They blew that team up. [00:24:04] Speaker B: They got. [00:24:04] Speaker C: They got rid of everybody. So no one expects that team. [00:24:07] Speaker D: Does it count, honestly, does it count as blatantly tanking when you literally don't have the ability to pay talent? This is the best roster you could assemble when you're paying. [00:24:17] Speaker A: Ask the Saints because every year they're in capel and somehow they come up with $20 million to pay Alvin Camara. [00:24:24] Speaker C: They. [00:24:24] Speaker D: They do it a lot. But this is what the Dolphins have done. The amount of money they're paying to not on the team is staggering. It's an enormous percentage. [00:24:32] Speaker C: Quite high. [00:24:33] Speaker D: That's really mismanaged. The Saints have like historically maneuvered a lot to maintain an above or shoot for an above average roster and do a lot of creative things to to do so leveraging their future, often having [00:24:47] Speaker A: an H back play quarter. [00:24:48] Speaker D: Dolphins are in a position where their hands are pretty much tied. Until they pay off all these obligations, they can't do much. [00:24:54] Speaker C: I don't actually think. I'm going to be honest. I don't think any professional team ever deliberately tanks. [00:25:04] Speaker A: Come on now. [00:25:05] Speaker C: I don't think the owner of the [00:25:07] Speaker A: Dolphins went to the coach and said we're tanking and then he said no and they fired him. [00:25:11] Speaker C: They can force that to happen. That doesn't mean that the players agree or the coach. [00:25:17] Speaker A: But that's what we're saying. [00:25:18] Speaker D: Players don't. That is players do not take. [00:25:21] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:25:21] Speaker A: Players aren't. [00:25:22] Speaker C: If you're saying a team is trying to tank, that's the whole freaking thing. So you can't come here and say this team's trying to tank when a coach and players are fighting for their jobs, whether even if it's not on that team next year. [00:25:37] Speaker D: You're 100 right. The organizations are not in alignment to. [00:25:41] Speaker C: So I don't give a crap. [00:25:44] Speaker A: I get it. [00:25:45] Speaker C: No, I don't give a crap. If it's the gm you have like this is like A thing where you're like, oh, yeah, they're tanking. I don't buy that. [00:25:53] Speaker A: They are. They have a minor league offensive line [00:25:56] Speaker C: that doesn't to be considered tanking. Is everybody. Everybody not. No, it is because the players are the ones who go out there. They're the ones who play. And if they are tanking, they will throw that game purposefully. And you will never see them do that. [00:26:16] Speaker B: Not. [00:26:16] Speaker C: Not intentionally. They might be poorly coached. That's different. [00:26:21] Speaker D: So I mean that the players are never. [00:26:23] Speaker A: No one's going out there intentionally taking a knee. [00:26:26] Speaker C: So this is the thing, though. You can't say the team is tanking the organization and the owner and maybe like the top administrators might be forcing the team to be deliberately bad. [00:26:39] Speaker A: That's the same thing. [00:26:40] Speaker C: No, but the team that is walking out there is not going to ever deliberately tank. It is why so often you see these teams that have the ability to take the number one pick on the last game of the year, and all they got to do is lose and they win. [00:27:02] Speaker D: Right. [00:27:04] Speaker C: That's not tanking. [00:27:06] Speaker D: Yeah, it doesn't benefit the players because they don't. [00:27:09] Speaker C: They don't care about, like, oh, we moved up one draft percentage. Like the year the Lions, they knew they were going to miss the playoffs. They knew they were done. It does not benefit them in the slightest to beat the packers, except for Petty. And just to kick them out of the playoffs. They could have easily just hammed it in, lost the game, got a slightly better draft pick, and they would be ending their season. So this is why I don't really like saying, like, the team is tanking. The organization might be trying to make them deliberately bad. The team will not. That's not how they're gonna do. That's not professional. The players aren't going to want to do that. No coach is going to touch anybody that is deliberately doing that. Because it's like no, man, when we [00:27:56] Speaker D: throw out the tanking label, like, it. It does. It is a little bit of a reductive description because it doesn't capture the entirety. The. The whole picture that an organization is. Is trying to work within, to navigate. And often they're like teams like Adolph, like Dolphins who are in the midst of a rebuild, a true rebuild, that is everyone on board understands that this is going to take time to bring back, like a winning roster, and they're bad. That does take effort. And it's overly simplistic to say, like, well, this. We just tried to lose this year to get a better best prep position next year. That is not the entire picture because there are a lot of goals that they're trying to achieve over the course of the season. They're always trying to develop talent. They're trying to figure out who on their current roster needs to be kept and who could be an asset to cut or to trade. Those are a lot of important decisions that general managers are working through. And then everyone in the organization, to your point, is fighting hard for their job because they all know that lack of success in their department to some [00:29:04] Speaker C: degree, you have to make your team appealing for people to want to come to. [00:29:10] Speaker D: Well, yeah, that's true. [00:29:11] Speaker C: Like, whether it's a coach or future [00:29:15] Speaker D: players, like the lines, winning that last game, that season propelled them into the next year. They went off to the off season strong, and then they had an amazing. [00:29:24] Speaker A: I think there's a difference between tanking in a team that's 8 and 8 and a team that's 2 and 15. Right. [00:29:30] Speaker C: Either way. All I'm saying is I just don't buy the tanking strategy. I don't think teams. Teams might be bad and the organization might hope that they are bad so they can get a better pick. It doesn't benefit anybody on that team, though, to do that. And so I don't ever. And a lot of players and coaches have even come out historically and said, [00:29:52] Speaker A: we're not sure like that Lovey Smith did it when they. When they blew the game. Yeah, I mean, I get. I get that there's situations like that, but you can't go up and down that. That Dolphins roster. You can name three players on their team. The people who watch the Dolphins couldn't name three players on their team. They don't have. They had the worst statistical defensive backroom. And you should know this because the Lions are right up there, too. Like, the Lions saw that and actually said, well, we're going to go try and find new people to put in here. Even though we have a player who we had to dismiss because he was part of a, you know, a crime. The Dolphins said that and said, right, and we're not going to sign anybody. We're not going to sign any. We're going to make a linebacker go play corner. We're going to go make a safety go play corner. And they've never done it in their career. [00:30:37] Speaker C: I understand what you're saying, but I'm saying, like, if a true official label of tank, I think, is more of a whole effort, and I just don't think that's that because at this point the it's a drag race between the Titans and the Dolphins for the number one overall pick. [00:30:57] Speaker A: Let's talk Titans and Dolphins. Eric G. Nunzio writes and you're starting a franchise and must take one of these quarterbacks to lead your team for the next five years. Let's go Malik Willis, Cam Ward or desean Watson? [00:31:09] Speaker D: What? [00:31:10] Speaker C: Cam Ward. [00:31:11] Speaker D: Cam Ward. [00:31:13] Speaker C: There's no question Malik has been a proven backup. [00:31:17] Speaker A: Air Genzio writes also in I was going to say and why is the only right answer desean Watson well, he's [00:31:25] Speaker C: saying that because he's probably playing the best out of all of them. Currently desean Watson is a known prospect. The reason why he was even given a huge fully guaranteed contract was because he was incredible with the text and if you're winning and you're good, eventually people forget about all of your scandals that happen on the outside. [00:31:44] Speaker A: If you took scandal away. [00:31:47] Speaker C: Watson but the problem is is like [00:31:51] Speaker D: don't make us say that on record. This is a recorded show that other [00:31:55] Speaker A: people don't make us say I was asking a question. I wasn't saying. [00:31:58] Speaker D: I'm not taking the bait. You could, you could phrase the question 100 different ways. I'm not taking the bait and saying something about them. [00:32:05] Speaker A: What if I replaced desean Watson with Michael Pennix? [00:32:10] Speaker C: I think you take Pennix then. [00:32:12] Speaker A: Okay. Really? [00:32:13] Speaker C: Pennix is actually playing pretty good so far this year. [00:32:16] Speaker D: Yeah, I guess. I guess it's showing a lot. [00:32:20] Speaker C: He's showing a lot more promise currently with the Falcons than he has. But I, I mean obviously your biggest concern right now with Pennix is how healthy can the guy stay. [00:32:30] Speaker A: Cam Ward reminds me of every quarterback that's played for the Jets. [00:32:34] Speaker D: Yeah, there's not a lot someone who [00:32:36] Speaker C: probably has like a huge ceiling but [00:32:39] Speaker A: a huge just hit all the time in their first 14 games. [00:32:42] Speaker C: Yeah, true. [00:32:43] Speaker D: Could be framing these questions is like building your franchise around that always lends itself for to from my perspective to like pick the younger. Yeah, the younger. Imagine I've got a great roster right now and I'm in win now mode and have to plug in one of these quarterbacks this season. That's a very different framing. [00:33:01] Speaker A: That's why five years is the middle ground of this. [00:33:03] Speaker D: Then I'd probably go Malik Willis right now to Captain Awful. Well a surrounded by what you called a minor league team. [00:33:12] Speaker A: Yeah but I heard they're not tanking the Falcons. The Falcons, by the way the first time in NFL history four different quarterbacks on the same team have thrown an interception all within their first 10 pass attempts in the same season. Cooper Rush, Jack Strand, Pennix and Tua. [00:33:29] Speaker C: I know what's crazy. Tua is so bad. [00:33:33] Speaker A: How bad is he? [00:33:35] Speaker C: So bad that Bijan Robinson, I saw this in overtime, sees Tua in the huddle and tries to sub Tua out. [00:33:46] Speaker A: He stepped out of the huddle and looked at the sideline goes, get this [00:33:49] Speaker C: guy out of here. They did not. They did not want Tua in there. Like the team. [00:33:54] Speaker A: Clearly, he's had three passes, two completions in one pick. So all three were completions all of this season. [00:34:02] Speaker D: This was the only time he's seen. [00:34:04] Speaker A: Only time. [00:34:05] Speaker D: I didn't even realize that, oh, he was hurt. Okay. [00:34:10] Speaker A: Remember, he had, like, an oblique injury four days before the game during, like, he was being covered. Yeah, watch. They were watching and filming his practice, and all of a sudden he just, like, laid down during the middle of throws. What? They're like, what's going on? He's like, I heard my old league, [00:34:25] Speaker D: oh, my God, they Falcons. [00:34:28] Speaker C: I have never seen. I. I've seen a lot of bad quarterback play, but I have never seen someone throw a pass that was completed that I, I think ended his career in the moment. [00:34:42] Speaker A: Justin Herbert, Dang. [00:34:44] Speaker C: He's thrown plenty of passes that have probably in his career, but Tua threw that pick. I think every Falcons player and fan wanted to kill him. [00:34:54] Speaker A: Kill. [00:34:55] Speaker D: That's brutal. [00:34:57] Speaker A: Literally. [00:34:57] Speaker D: That's a bit much. [00:34:58] Speaker C: Not literally. You know what I mean? Like, figuratively. [00:35:00] Speaker D: Okay, okay. [00:35:01] Speaker C: Hurt it. Like, hurt him with their eyeballs from afar. [00:35:06] Speaker D: Speaking of things about him on a podcast. [00:35:08] Speaker A: Speaking of, like, awful quarterback play. So Justin Herbert's fourth quarter passer rating right now, it's 38.2. [00:35:15] Speaker B: Oh. [00:35:18] Speaker A: If he simply hiked the ball and spiked it into the ground, it'd be 39.6. [00:35:23] Speaker D: Yeah, I love those. [00:35:24] Speaker A: Those are some of my favorites. [00:35:25] Speaker D: So that. [00:35:25] Speaker C: So that does beg the question of who. I mean, obviously, when a team is 0 and 5 and they look as hopeless as they do over there, like, you. There's like, no one person you blame. But who do you think shoulders the most blame? [00:35:39] Speaker A: Harbaugh? [00:35:41] Speaker D: I don't even know, man. [00:35:42] Speaker C: I think it's easy to blame the head coach. [00:35:46] Speaker A: We give all the credit to teams and their coaches when we don't know why. To explain the credit, it's Mike McDonald. [00:35:53] Speaker B: The. [00:35:54] Speaker D: I was pretty overly consistent at just like, o. Line's bad, so nothing worked. [00:35:59] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a good line a little bit. It's on the bingo card for Kyle [00:36:02] Speaker C: I think I would actually blame. Unfortunately, this pains me. I. I think I would actually blame McDaniels first. [00:36:09] Speaker D: Really? [00:36:11] Speaker C: Was Herbert this bad before he got there? No, exactly. [00:36:16] Speaker D: No. The last couple of seasons, he's been a pretty good quarterback, especially in the regular season. [00:36:21] Speaker B: Especially. [00:36:22] Speaker D: Clearly. [00:36:23] Speaker C: I think McDaniels is trying to have. I don't know. I'm not a football guru, but if I have a new offensive coordinator coming in and then that means I have a whole new system coming in, and the immediate time that this transition happens, my quarterback all of a sudden starts to suck. There's a correlation there that I think is hard to ignore. Now, you can blame Harbaugh because he's the one who's obviously bringing him in. He's the head coach. He's in charge of all this. But there's a really good possibility that Harbaugh, in combination with McDaniels, is trusting McDaniels as the OC to. To do what he thinks is best. And McDaniels is floundering. [00:37:05] Speaker A: But Harvard. Harbaugh's never been the offensive guru of a team. He never was with Kaepernick. He never was with Michigan. So then that means he hasn't been here. [00:37:13] Speaker C: What you're telling me, though, then that puts even more blame on McDaniels. [00:37:17] Speaker A: Shouldn't that be even more on him that he's allowing it to happen and won't take the reins? [00:37:21] Speaker C: Oh, sure. [00:37:23] Speaker A: He's. I mean, all things fall on him. I mean, he's the same. [00:37:26] Speaker C: Head coaches are going to wait for a larger sample size than 5 games now, I think at this point. [00:37:33] Speaker A: To get rid of the quarterback. [00:37:34] Speaker C: No, not the quarterback. I mean, like, to make like a drastic change of, like getting rid of McDaniels or taking over play calling or something. Well, quarterbacks, you're never going to see them do it. Like, even with the Lions, they're. They're defensive woes. Right. They've had a lot of defensive problems. Even last week when they got their butt handed to them by the Panthers, the immediate question was, is Shepard going to lose his job? [00:38:03] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:38:04] Speaker C: And those were fair questions. To be fair. Like, to be fair. You can hit the button. I'll wait. [00:38:12] Speaker A: Sorry. [00:38:12] Speaker C: Oh, gosh. The listeners. [00:38:14] Speaker A: Get to the part. Hold on. Ian, do that thing where you were talking about things that it's. No one really knew the answer. [00:38:20] Speaker C: To be fair. Okay, there we go. [00:38:21] Speaker D: Thank you. [00:38:22] Speaker C: But crap. Now what were we talking? [00:38:26] Speaker A: That's all I care about. If you listen to Harbaugh talk at the end of the game, he s he again. Jaden Daniels. He sounds like a mushmouth. He has no answers for it. You can't go to the podium and have no answers. [00:38:38] Speaker C: I think at this point, I did see his presser. I. I agree. [00:38:42] Speaker A: I agree he sounded like an absolute buffoon. [00:38:45] Speaker D: Are you talking Harbaugh or Calvin Shepard? [00:38:47] Speaker A: Jim Harbaugh went to the. Went to the podium afterwards and just said, I just don't know what. [00:38:53] Speaker B: You don't. [00:38:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:38:55] Speaker C: They asked him, like, what do you say to your team when you're 0 and 5? And he literally said he's boom, power. Like, I don't know what you are 5. And yeah, we got it. We don't know. He literally said, like, I don't know what to say to the team that's owned five. Like, he doesn't know what to do. [00:39:12] Speaker D: Right. [00:39:12] Speaker C: Which is. Would you never want your head coach to. [00:39:16] Speaker A: To have that either? [00:39:18] Speaker C: I think clearly that entire team, I think is. And I think as a fan base and a franchise, I think is just shocked. I think they are like, a little shell shocked right now that, like, this is. This is going very. [00:39:31] Speaker A: We were crowning McDaniels in the off season. [00:39:34] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:39:35] Speaker A: Like, wow. [00:39:35] Speaker C: Maybe we didn't look enough. I don't want to say, like, they're a product of their schedule, but their schedule has been rough, too. They've had a lot of hard games. Like, not like, easy teams to beat. I want to say I could see them bouncing back. I'd have. I. I would actively have to see who they have. [00:39:52] Speaker A: It's. The next five are hard. [00:39:54] Speaker C: Right. [00:39:54] Speaker A: And I like, they could be 0 and 10, which is. [00:40:01] Speaker C: And someone crazy will lose their job if they go oh and 10. [00:40:05] Speaker D: This is an enormous regression. It cannot be overst how much. This team was very competitive the last couple of seasons. Their defense was top tier. Their offense was effective, not extremely impressive or consistent. Frustrating at times, but defense is still not terrible. [00:40:23] Speaker A: Not good enough. It's hard to judge it when your office is at such a low rate. Yeah, it's kind of like what the Lions are at. And our next question comes from Jamie Asl Rightson. Is Gibbs better than Barry Sanders? So to add to that right now, Jameer Gibbs scored his 58th career touchdown, breaking a tie with hall of Famer Barry Sanders for most of the NFL before turning 35. Right now, Jameer Gibbs. [00:40:47] Speaker C: No, it was 24. [00:40:49] Speaker A: It was much before turning 25. Okay, he's at 50. Oh, sorry. He's at 58. Barry Sanders is at was at 57. A funny, funny name. At 56, Todd Gurley and Maurice Jones drew just the bowling ball mjd. But to add to that, Jameer Gibbs is on a Jim Brown career pace. He has close to half of this, half of the yards of scrimmage yards that he has and close to half of TDs 58 compared to 126. There's only two players in NFL history to average 100 plus scrimmage yards and one touchdown per game. [00:41:27] Speaker D: This is remarkable to me. It is extremely remarkable if you put it in the context that for multiple seasons he was splitting the backfield. [00:41:38] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:41:38] Speaker D: With another back who got a lot of touchdowns as well. Just imagine if it was still just the Gibbs show those seasons. He would have crossed the goal line a lot more times and probably would be in like a tier of his own. And this is also a very pass heavy team with a very effective passing game. We've already talked about Goff's passing numbers and leading in yards and, and the receivers and tight tight ends that they've had. So it's not like this has been the type of offense that we've seen in the past where, I don't know, like Christian McCaffrey type offenses or like some teams that relied on Saquon or Derek Henry or something in recent years where that's the engine of their offense. Gibbs has just been phenomenal for the role that he's been asked to play. And it's not been like carry the team, it's been like, do your part. And he's hitting home runs. [00:42:30] Speaker C: He's crushing it. Yeah. [00:42:32] Speaker D: What would he have to do? What would he have to do before you put him in the same conversation? [00:42:37] Speaker C: It's so hard. [00:42:40] Speaker A: You're just gonna say do it longer. [00:42:42] Speaker C: Yeah, I think it is. [00:42:44] Speaker D: Okay. [00:42:44] Speaker C: I mean, okay, but like how much longer? Yeah, here's my. No, here's what I was gonna say before because this is. These comparisons are. Are actually, I think borderline unfair to both players. [00:42:58] Speaker D: Okay. Because that's what sports talk is, man. [00:43:00] Speaker C: I know we do. Well, because it feels like Jameer is the Barry Sanders of today. [00:43:07] Speaker D: Sure. [00:43:08] Speaker C: So he is doing what Barry did for the Lions today. He is doing what Barry Sanders did then today. I wouldn't say one's better than the other right now because what I'm currently watching is an all time great running back. [00:43:24] Speaker D: That's what it looks like. Yeah. [00:43:26] Speaker C: Do his thing. And he's so freaking fast. The amount of times I have seen him, like he had a couple Touchdowns like this against the Cardinals where it was like, oh, there's. I'm bouncing off all my old line and all this line and I can't find anything. And then just as a ue around and just like the afterburners kick on and he just outruns or a body. That reminds me of when I watched Barry Sanders. [00:43:54] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:43:54] Speaker C: Get into like a scrum and then somehow pop out the other end and just run off. [00:44:00] Speaker D: That trick play that they ran this weekend where everybody touched the ball and then they. They threw it to Gibbs. Denny, where he was like surrounded by defenders. Like, when I look at it, I thought, there's no way this is a positive play. [00:44:12] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [00:44:13] Speaker D: And he ran for a first down. [00:44:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:44:15] Speaker C: So it's hard to comparison. It's hard to compare them because you can easily put their numbers next to each other and be like, oh, yeah. Like Gibbs is on pace. Clearly. [00:44:29] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:44:30] Speaker C: To be better or equal to. [00:44:34] Speaker D: Does Mr. Duet think this is blasphemous to even bring up? [00:44:37] Speaker C: He might. He might. [00:44:38] Speaker D: If it's tuning Barry. [00:44:39] Speaker C: And Barry is like sacred ground, really. [00:44:43] Speaker A: Can I give you two. Two of my thoughts as a non lion stand to you too? Yeah, well, two things. First of all, I'd be like, he probably is like, he probably is like Barry Sanders. He's on an irrelevant Lions team that won't win. And I hope he doesn't retire early. Like, that's the first thing I would say. [00:44:59] Speaker C: I actually would say Gibbs is on a much better. [00:45:02] Speaker A: Maybe not irrelevant irrelevant, but window closed. [00:45:06] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:06] Speaker A: Potentially it's closed for sure. With that defense. I don't believe it. They're closed. And then my other thought would be like, I actually could argue. I feel like. And you've argued this on a different point, that I absolutely feel like he is better than Barry Sanders right now because he's doing this in a league that is not run the ball. With an offensive line that is not currently run the ball. [00:45:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:37] Speaker A: Like, I don't think that they're set up to be a ground and pound offense. [00:45:41] Speaker C: I don't think their O line is as good as it was correct a few years ago for sure. [00:45:45] Speaker A: Is it. Was it Jamal Williams that was their running back back in the day when he did the. When they beat the Packers. Is that his name? He loved Dragon Ball Z and all the anime stuff. [00:45:55] Speaker D: Then he went to the Saints. He was a character. He was that guy. [00:45:57] Speaker A: Remember? He did the fake. He did the quarterback sneaky to end the game for the Saints. [00:46:02] Speaker C: Yes. [00:46:02] Speaker A: They wanted 60 points and the coach got mad. That's great. But their offensive line then was like legendary. Had like four out of five guys were Pro Bowlers. [00:46:10] Speaker C: Their NFC championship year, that was their best. [00:46:13] Speaker A: Totally. They don't have that right now. [00:46:15] Speaker C: No, they don't. [00:46:16] Speaker A: They don't. But to say that he's doing that in a, in a league that rewards quarterbacks throwing the ball and obviously a lot of these scrimmage yards, some of them are, are, are receiving. But to be a consistent over 85 yards rushing, like not even to think about it, that's pretty darn near impressive. Whereas in Barry Sanders day they were. He was toting the rock 30 times a game. Yeah, Jameer. Or, you know, I just. He split carries until this year. [00:46:47] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think Bijan is having to carry his team more than Gibbs has to. [00:46:51] Speaker A: Totally. [00:46:51] Speaker C: Oh yeah, totally. [00:46:53] Speaker D: He's the engine for that offense entirely. [00:46:55] Speaker A: But think of him now. He split with Algier last year. [00:46:58] Speaker D: He did. That's true. [00:46:59] Speaker A: He split this year with Brian Robinson. They had two B Robins. [00:47:05] Speaker C: Who's better, Emmett Smith or Barry Sanders type with Gibbs versus Robinson? [00:47:09] Speaker D: I think so they're. They both came in like a year apart to the league or. I thought they were the same draft class, was it? [00:47:15] Speaker C: I thought it was. [00:47:15] Speaker A: We'll look that up. We'll look that up. I think it's time for a segment today, guys, and this is where we're going to play a little bit of an honor system. I need you to just get a little notepad out for your. On your computers. I'm going to be naming you some pretty awesome categories and okay, I'm going to be having you guys try to guess the same answer as me. And so I'm going to be giving you a category and all I want you to do is we're going to act like you're writing on a dry erase board and then you're going to flash the answers and say them to me at this. At the count of three after I give them to you. [00:47:49] Speaker C: Okay, hold on, let me. [00:47:51] Speaker A: So the first category is I just want you to name a number one overall pick. So don't want you to say it right now. I just want you to write it down. And on the count of three, I will have you say your answers and then I will share with you mine and hopefully you got the right answer. Honor system. By the way, listeners, if I want you to play this game, see how [00:48:09] Speaker C: many points you got that you're gonna [00:48:11] Speaker A: say, yeah, yeah, there's a little bit of like, what's Marshall say? Is he gonna say jamarcus Russell? Oh, he probably wants me to think that. Or would he say it right now? And the actual answer is Jamarcus Russell. Find out next. [00:48:23] Speaker D: Right. This is a very Princess Bride situation. [00:48:29] Speaker C: Who are the most famous Notre Dame wolfers? [00:48:33] Speaker D: I don't think. [00:48:34] Speaker A: Never had a number. [00:48:36] Speaker D: No, no, no, no. [00:48:37] Speaker C: Oh, my God. You're gonna buy a jersey of anybody. [00:48:39] Speaker D: I was. So I. You said it. And I just wrote down the first name that came to mind. [00:48:42] Speaker C: Okay. [00:48:43] Speaker D: Is that what you're looking for? [00:48:44] Speaker A: Are we trying to get my answer? [00:48:46] Speaker C: I have a name, but I don't think it's your answer. [00:48:48] Speaker A: Okay, on the count of three, say your answers. One, two, three. [00:48:51] Speaker D: James Winston. [00:48:52] Speaker A: My answer was Cam Newton. Oh, for one, guys. All right, up next, I want you to give me a current starting quarterback in the NFL. [00:49:01] Speaker D: Oh, okay. [00:49:03] Speaker A: Remember, you want my answer. So listeners, like, hopefully you've developed somewhat of a relationship with me behind the scenes. Hubba hubba. And you're starting to know my little ins and outs, the quirks that make me go, you know, are you. [00:49:15] Speaker C: Are you. Like, you're not just being random with your names? [00:49:19] Speaker A: Like, oh, I'm getting some. I mean, some of them are. You gotta. What would my first answer be? Okay. [00:49:25] Speaker C: Okay. [00:49:26] Speaker A: One, two, three. My answer was C.J. stroud. All right, number three. I want an all time wide receiver with great hands. [00:49:40] Speaker D: Okay. Okay, got it. [00:49:42] Speaker A: One, two, three. So my second answer was gonna be Larry Fitzgerald. [00:49:48] Speaker C: I said to. [00:49:48] Speaker A: My real answer is Anquan Bolden. All right, number four. Hopefully you guys can get on the board today. It's gonna be really bad. We have 10 of them, so if you. We go over 10, I get to take those Oreos home. Those Reese's Oreos go home with me. Okay? Every one you get, you get one of these Reese's Oreos. That's gonna move Kyle's. [00:50:09] Speaker D: All right, motivation. [00:50:10] Speaker A: Next one. I want a bust of a draft pick in the last 10 years. [00:50:16] Speaker D: A bust of a draft. Okay. [00:50:17] Speaker A: I'll even specify quarterback. [00:50:19] Speaker D: Okay, got it. Ready? [00:50:22] Speaker C: Last 10 years. [00:50:24] Speaker A: Yep. [00:50:24] Speaker D: Come on. [00:50:26] Speaker C: I'm trying to think. [00:50:29] Speaker D: This is easy. There's a bunch. There's so many. [00:50:34] Speaker C: I don't know if this is the last 10 years, though. [00:50:36] Speaker A: I hope he says Joey Harrington. [00:50:38] Speaker D: That's like 20 years ago, right? [00:50:40] Speaker C: This is not one. Last 10 years. [00:50:42] Speaker A: Two, three. [00:50:43] Speaker D: Zach Wilson. [00:50:44] Speaker C: Johnny Manziel. [00:50:45] Speaker A: Zach Wilson is the right answer. [00:50:50] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:50:51] Speaker A: One to nothing right now, guys. All right, just a short applause for you. All right. Next one, I want a quarterback who played in New York. [00:50:59] Speaker D: A quarterback. A quarterback who. [00:51:01] Speaker A: Quarterback who played in New York all time. [00:51:04] Speaker D: Okay. [00:51:05] Speaker A: Could be Buffalo, it could be the jets, it could be the Giants. [00:51:09] Speaker C: I got one. [00:51:11] Speaker A: Okay, Come on. There's so many. How'd that feel, Ian? We should say that every time he's late. Are you ready? [00:51:18] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:51:18] Speaker A: 1, 2, 3. [00:51:19] Speaker D: Tyrod Taylor. [00:51:21] Speaker A: Mark Sanchez is the right answer. All right, number six. A famous injury. A famous, famous injury. Something that made you go, [00:51:34] Speaker C: oh, [00:51:38] Speaker D: oh, okay, okay. [00:51:39] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. You got good answers. [00:51:41] Speaker C: I feel like I have one. [00:51:42] Speaker A: Good, I'm glad you have one. [00:51:44] Speaker C: I have a couple that were actually there, but this was the first one. [00:51:47] Speaker A: One, two, three, two. [00:51:48] Speaker D: Stafford, shoulder. [00:51:49] Speaker A: Alex Smith, the leg. Okay, how about an all time Patriot? [00:51:55] Speaker C: I know who he's not gonna say, but maybe he thinks. I'm not gonna say that that's what [00:52:00] Speaker A: you would want me to think. This should be called the Princess Bride. All right, ready? One, two, three. [00:52:11] Speaker D: Adam Venateri. [00:52:12] Speaker C: Tom Brady. [00:52:13] Speaker A: Teddy Ruski. [00:52:15] Speaker D: Such an idiot. [00:52:16] Speaker A: Number eight. Players who. Players whose names start with a J. Okay, okay, okay. Should I give you a hint? No, I haven't given any hints. [00:52:32] Speaker C: I don't want a hint from you. [00:52:34] Speaker D: Come on. Yeah. [00:52:34] Speaker A: All right. One, two, three. [00:52:36] Speaker D: Josh Dobbs. [00:52:37] Speaker C: Justin Jefferson. [00:52:38] Speaker A: All right, I'm gonna give you a hint. [00:52:40] Speaker D: Okay. [00:52:41] Speaker A: Handsome, [00:52:44] Speaker C: handsome, [00:52:46] Speaker A: objectively. [00:52:48] Speaker D: Oh, wait. [00:52:52] Speaker A: Oh, duh, go ahead. [00:52:54] Speaker D: Jimmy Garoppolo. [00:52:55] Speaker A: Jimmy grabs one and a half. [00:52:58] Speaker C: The only person I could think of [00:53:00] Speaker A: just objectively, women go to the games and they're like, oh my God, Jimmy G's on the team. Let's watch it. The Raiders. [00:53:06] Speaker C: Only person I could think of when you said objectively handsome was Fred Warren. And I was like, that's not a [00:53:13] Speaker D: J. I was thinking like Randall Cobb or something. [00:53:16] Speaker C: He's got pretty eyes. [00:53:18] Speaker A: Could picture his face off top. And I had to be honest with you. All right, that's fine. All right, number nine, retired linebacker. I like your eyes there. [00:53:28] Speaker C: I feel like I might have this one. [00:53:33] Speaker D: Ah, wait, no, no, no. [00:53:34] Speaker C: This is. [00:53:35] Speaker D: That was not. [00:53:36] Speaker C: This is a great one that I'm going to say even if you didn't pick it. Oh, I thought this guy. [00:53:41] Speaker A: I want to give you my number two, cuz, like my number two is probably what I think you're picking. Okay, ready? One, two, three. [00:53:48] Speaker D: Ray Lewis, Erlocker. [00:53:49] Speaker A: That was my number two. My number one, Zach Thomas. [00:53:53] Speaker D: Okay. [00:53:54] Speaker A: I was playing some NFL blitz this weekend, guys, and a lot of these names just came to me like, and they just hit my sensor There was [00:54:02] Speaker C: like a famous Lions. Corey Schlesinger. [00:54:05] Speaker A: Schlesinger, yes. All right. [00:54:08] Speaker D: I've not heard. [00:54:08] Speaker A: This is my last one. [00:54:10] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:54:10] Speaker A: This is for all my gamers out there. A Madden cover athlete. [00:54:18] Speaker D: I will not get this right, but I will just put down what came to mind for me. [00:54:22] Speaker C: A Madden cover athlete. [00:54:25] Speaker D: Okay. [00:54:26] Speaker C: I don't think this one's right, but I'm gonna put it. [00:54:29] Speaker A: One, you're younger than me. [00:54:30] Speaker D: Three, Eddie George. [00:54:32] Speaker C: I said Caleb Williams. [00:54:33] Speaker A: You're closer. I put Sean Alexander. [00:54:37] Speaker D: Okay. [00:54:37] Speaker C: Never would have got that. [00:54:38] Speaker A: Number 37. Seahawks love this. [00:54:41] Speaker D: Yes. [00:54:41] Speaker C: Never would have got that. Some of your answers I never was gonna get. I never would have got those. [00:54:46] Speaker A: Okay, well, that's why you need to think like me. [00:54:50] Speaker C: I tried. [00:54:51] Speaker A: Next time I do this, I'm going to play a game with you and [00:54:54] Speaker C: I put the quarterback that you literally are constantly defending with your life. No, Lamar. And you still didn't pick him. You picked a rando. [00:55:03] Speaker A: I did, yeah. Next time, Sanchez. What is this game? [00:55:08] Speaker C: This is a butt fumble up your butt. It's. This is rigged. [00:55:12] Speaker A: I didn't mean to, you know, hit you in the side like a knife. [00:55:17] Speaker D: Yeah, right. Oh, that cuts deep. [00:55:20] Speaker A: Stand up comedy. Yeah. Next time that we do this. [00:55:24] Speaker C: Are you trying to be funny? Couldn't figure that out. [00:55:26] Speaker A: Mark Sanchez, stabbed. So next time that we. [00:55:32] Speaker C: Instead of great stuff, standup does explain the joke. [00:55:34] Speaker A: Right? [00:55:36] Speaker C: So sorry. [00:55:38] Speaker A: Next time we do this. I was going to say it the other way, but, Kyle, next time we are going to do it and I'm going to give you categories and the answers are going to be as if I'm Ian. [00:55:47] Speaker D: Oh, okay. [00:55:48] Speaker A: And I'm guaranteeing you will win. [00:55:51] Speaker D: Oh, okay. [00:55:52] Speaker A: Anything else we got for our listeners out there, guys? [00:55:55] Speaker D: I love that. I love a shoe in. [00:55:57] Speaker C: I wonder if he'd be wrong. [00:55:58] Speaker D: You know, I have a. A listener. Just, you know, character. [00:56:04] Speaker A: Is it Raiders? [00:56:06] Speaker C: Are they still around? [00:56:08] Speaker A: Reeds. Ms. Raiders. Fernando Mendoza made the debut. [00:56:12] Speaker C: He did. I don't know how he did, but [00:56:14] Speaker A: he played according to his coach. He's been taking every rep mentally. What is a lot of experience. He's got four reps. He's got four games of reps. Simon Reeds. But thank you. [00:56:25] Speaker D: Simon played this. Listeners, if you're. [00:56:29] Speaker A: If you're. [00:56:29] Speaker D: We're plugged into your ears right now. I really want you to feel like an active participant in this show. Let us know what your answers were to every question. Let us know what your childhood job was of your dream was and let us know Your answer to every wonderful question that Marshall asked us today. [00:56:47] Speaker A: I think Simon wanted to be a firefighter. [00:56:50] Speaker D: Oh, it could be. Simon wrote in as he was listening to the pod last week, his answers to the questions. And so we did a. All those guessing number questions. [00:57:01] Speaker A: His. [00:57:02] Speaker D: His guess for the wide receiver question was Tori Holt for 23 all time. And looked. He looked it up and he was number 17 of all time. So Simon actually did really good. That might have been better than us. Then for the all time Lions question, his guess was Roy Williams for 67. He was way off because Roy Williams was number 11 on the all time list, so he owned that. And then for rush yards, quarterback, he guessed Philip Rivers. And for the running back question, he guessed Jamal Charles. [00:57:35] Speaker C: Jamal Charles. [00:57:36] Speaker D: Wow. Yeah. [00:57:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:57:37] Speaker D: Great guesses, Simon. Thank you for writing those in and thank you for participating. And we want to hear from every listener again. Tell us, like, as you're listening, there's got to be names that come to mind. These are fun games. And you can play too. You can play at home. Write a sim and we'll mention you on the air. [00:57:55] Speaker C: Are you playing both sides? [00:57:58] Speaker D: That's not what your mother said. [00:58:01] Speaker A: Wow. [00:58:01] Speaker D: I don't know. [00:58:02] Speaker A: My mom literally texted you happy birthday delightedly today. [00:58:04] Speaker D: No, she didn't. I never got a text from her. [00:58:06] Speaker A: She texted me and said she was gonna, so. [00:58:08] Speaker D: Well, I didn't get a text. [00:58:09] Speaker C: You have Marshall's mom's phone number? [00:58:12] Speaker D: Yes, we text each other. [00:58:14] Speaker A: Yeah, they talk now and then. [00:58:18] Speaker C: This is interesting. [00:58:19] Speaker A: She's complimented your parents many a time. [00:58:21] Speaker C: She's texting your mom. [00:58:23] Speaker A: I texted Colleen. [00:58:24] Speaker D: I textured her. [00:58:25] Speaker C: My mother. Don't you dare text my mother. [00:58:30] Speaker A: Let's wrap the boy. [00:58:31] Speaker D: Let's wrap it up, boys. [00:58:32] Speaker C: What are you texting her for? [00:58:33] Speaker A: We're just texting about the Mac and cheese at St. Mary's Fish Fries. [00:58:38] Speaker C: That's. I don't like the way you're saying that. My dad listens to this pot. [00:58:45] Speaker A: Well, it was. It was more of a Snapchat thing, but I mean, you have to deal [00:58:49] Speaker C: with my dad, not me. [00:58:50] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:58:50] Speaker C: Tim burried your case, Barry. [00:58:53] Speaker D: Number two, all time running back. [00:58:55] Speaker A: Yeah, technically number three if it go and I'm fine. [00:59:00] Speaker C: Never put Gibbs above Barry. [00:59:02] Speaker A: I don't think I've never texted. [00:59:04] Speaker D: What if he wins the Lombardi? What if he wins it? [00:59:07] Speaker C: Okay, then you put down. [00:59:10] Speaker D: Really? It's that easy? [00:59:11] Speaker C: This is like. Like right now. If you were to ask me the. Ask me who's the greatest quarterback of all time for the line. [00:59:17] Speaker A: Who's the second best? [00:59:18] Speaker D: The Lion's greatest all time quarterback is. Who? [00:59:21] Speaker A: Maggie Shepherd. [00:59:22] Speaker C: Because he's won a Super Bowl. Oh, Landry. Because he's the only one who actually win anything for us. [00:59:32] Speaker A: Bye. Sorry, Tim. I didn't mean that about your wife. [00:59:36] Speaker C: I loved.
