Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome to the Point after show with Kyle Maurer, Marshall hesla, and Ian DeWitt.
[00:00:06] Speaker B: This is the show where the guys
[00:00:08] Speaker A: attempt to pick the winners of the weekly NFL games, along with some healthy
[00:00:11] Speaker B: debate about current topics.
[00:00:13] Speaker A: Let's go.
[00:00:13] Speaker B: Let's go.
[00:00:14] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. Week one.
[00:00:16] Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes.
[00:00:19] Speaker A: Football. Football.
Yeah.
Week two, forget question mark.
[00:00:28] Speaker B: You remember the intro? Did you ever do. You were. When the XFL first came out, were you tuning in then? Did you watch?
[00:00:34] Speaker A: I watched it like, he hate me. He hate me, too.
[00:00:36] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And when the. The Rock did the thing, did, like, the intro number.
[00:00:42] Speaker A: Oh, I forgot about that, actually.
[00:00:44] Speaker B: Yes.
Big wrestling thing. I was think of that, like, this is the xfl. Like, who. Who was that? Was that. Was that Vince McMahon?
[00:00:52] Speaker A: Or was it the same guy who does a let's get ready to rumble?
[00:00:56] Speaker B: Maybe. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah, that. Yeah. We would have been kids.
[00:01:01] Speaker A: Yeah. I would have been in elementary school for most of that.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:04] Speaker A: I do remember watching it because it was kind of big for a second there, and then it basically petered out.
[00:01:12] Speaker B: I know, I know. I remember the commercials leading up to it was that legendary ballplayer who was like. But the game has become so sophisticated, like, critiquing pro football because it's not, like, tough anymore.
[00:01:28] Speaker A: Oh, man, I don't know.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: Yeah, I remember the ad campaign leading up to it. I don't remember, like, taking shots at the league being, like, all these rules and, you know, bunch of babies.
Let's get back to just smashing dudes.
Anyway, I don't know why I thought. I think it was just dudes make it a pastime.
All right. Well, football's back.
[00:01:52] Speaker A: It was a good week, too.
[00:01:53] Speaker B: It was.
[00:01:54] Speaker A: It was a lot of good football.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: We're gonna talk about that in a minute. First, my question of the day. I attended my youngest brother's wedding on Saturday.
[00:02:02] Speaker A: Love a good wedding.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: I love a good wedding, too. Yeah. Yeah. Now, like, most of my siblings are married. We all got married mostly in the same church. The reception was banging.
The. There were a lot of little kids, and the dance floor was real hopping.
[00:02:16] Speaker A: Was this at St. Mary's though?
[00:02:18] Speaker B: The. The wedding ceremony was. The reception was at Cascades Manor House, which is beautiful.
[00:02:23] Speaker A: That's a great place.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: Yes. Love it. And I want to know your, like, Mount Rushmore, if you will, or your top wedding reception.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: Dance songs, dance songs.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: What's going to get you off your seat and onto the floor?
[00:02:42] Speaker A: Well, a lot of people like the line dances. I tend to find them relatively boring line dances. Like, you know, like the Cupid Shuffle.
[00:02:50] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah. Macarena.
[00:02:51] Speaker A: That sort of. I've never been a big fan of those. I find them quite boring.
They're too, like, strict in what you have to do.
[00:02:58] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:03:00] Speaker A: So I'm not.
[00:03:00] Speaker B: They tend to fill the floor, though, too. It's like people just. Everybody just like, oh, wow, this one. I know. I know the moves for this.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't have to look like an
[00:03:09] Speaker B: idiot, which most of us do.
[00:03:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:03:11] Speaker B: Like, let's stop our conga line. You know, like, we're a bunch of white people. Anyway, like, this is anyway the only
[00:03:19] Speaker A: one that I will give it to because it does feel like it is, like a wedding tradition to have this song is the Chicken Dance.
[00:03:28] Speaker B: The Chicken Dance? Are you serious?
[00:03:30] Speaker A: It's not my favorite song. I want to be very clear.
[00:03:33] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: But in terms of, like, wedding songs, if I'm, like, at a wedding, you kind of expect the chicken dance.
It's fun when it does hit.
[00:03:44] Speaker B: Okay.
Gosh to me that I associate that with, like, the St. Joe's Festival with the polka bands playing the chicken dance. Yeah. There's always a big polka band up there.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: But Michael Jackson would probably be, like, number one.
[00:03:56] Speaker B: I should.
100%.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Most Michael Jackson songs will get me out there.
[00:04:01] Speaker B: Yeah. Everybody's dancing to Billie Jean on Saturday and Get Low.
Oh, man, when that starts. That's a good one. That's a good pull.
[00:04:11] Speaker A: Okay.
To me one more time.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Thank you. Thank you. That's a great one.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: Hot in here is another one.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: Oh, man. We had too many little kids for that sort of thing.
[00:04:24] Speaker A: So hot. And her.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: A little bit.
I love it. I'm into it. Okay. That was a few.
[00:04:35] Speaker A: So that's. That's four.
[00:04:37] Speaker B: Oh, was it.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: That was Chicken Dance. Mo Jackson. Get Low. Hot in here.
[00:04:41] Speaker B: Love it.
[00:04:42] Speaker A: Mount Rushmore is four.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: Guys love it.
[00:04:43] Speaker A: Pretty sure.
[00:04:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
That's pretty solid. Okay.
Okay. I'm down with all those. I support that, and I think everybody. Yeah, that seems to work. That works really well. Our generation gets out there. Back streets back.
[00:05:04] Speaker A: All right.
[00:05:04] Speaker B: That basic part. Oh, we just get down for it. That has been a hit.
[00:05:09] Speaker A: That's a great one.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I love that. I love that.
[00:05:12] Speaker A: I want to get out to the dance floor right now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's another good one.
[00:05:23] Speaker B: That is a. That. That one works. That one definitely eats as the kids say. I think if I'm using that right, I don't really know.
[00:05:31] Speaker A: You're using it correct.
[00:05:32] Speaker B: Our friend Anthony would definitely Be on the dance. He's famous for being unable to resist.
[00:05:37] Speaker A: I do teach middle school. Yeah, I have heard that. But yeah, I think you're using it right.
[00:05:42] Speaker B: Okay, thank you.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: Good, good, good.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: I'm trying to be hip.
I know.
I. I am down for an occasional slow dance, you know. So like I probably got to go with what was our wedding song. The Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling in Love. So we'll always dance to that. You know, my wife and I've been married 17 years now and wow, look at you. Yeah, but it was counting so wise. I know, I know, but I. There's some of some more modern dances that.
Songs that have fun dances that just like. Like everybody was getting down to. Wobble wobble, yeah.
[00:06:18] Speaker A: Wobble baby, Wobble baby, yeah.
[00:06:19] Speaker B: That was kind of fun. Like. It has some moves that are enjoyable. I really rock with Gangnam Style.
[00:06:27] Speaker A: That's.
[00:06:28] Speaker B: We just go crazy.
Oh oh, oh, oh yeah, we.
We do the moves cuz it's just. They're ridiculous. But everybody can do it. And we all just look absurd up there, like with the little horsey sort
[00:06:42] Speaker A: of little gallop thing that he's got going on.
[00:06:45] Speaker B: That is a fun.
[00:06:47] Speaker A: There's a really cool video of.
It's sai Right.
[00:06:52] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:06:52] Speaker A: Where he's doing a concert and he's under the stage and the camera's got him under the stage and they put two shots together where the first shot is him under the stage. And then they spliced the second shot, which was the camera above stage. And it shoots him up.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:10] Speaker A: Into the crowd, like up onto stage. And he like jumps and he does a big fist pump while he's in the air and he lands and then he just starts like singing and going into it. The crowd is massive.
And he does this. He's crouched down and he does this really swift like he looks at the camera and he just lifts his hand like shoot me up and then boom.
And it's a really cool shot. Like just. I bet you could YouTube like size stadium like intro.
[00:07:42] Speaker B: That sounds incredible.
[00:07:43] Speaker A: It was.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: Oh my gosh. I would just die. That sounds like.
I love those. I love those sort of moments. I live for the stage.
[00:07:51] Speaker A: Oh yeah, well. And there's like another cool one of. There's like a Green Day concert and they're not even playing yet.
And they are. They're playing just like music in the background as like they're getting ready to. To get go on stage. But they're playing Bohemian Rhapsody.
[00:08:09] Speaker B: Oh right.
[00:08:10] Speaker A: And so they get to like.
[00:08:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:14] Speaker A: And the entire stadium, huge crowd. Yeah. All in unison. Perfectly starts headbanging and it's very cool shot of the crowd. I'm like, that is so good.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: I loved Jay Z. Did a like a talk about once when DMX opened for him and he's like, you know, I got, I'm following DMX and Jay Z's like, he's, he's the icon. But when he's not even on stage and X gets on the mic and just does his guttural growl and the crowd just loses their minds. Cuz DMX had that, that iconic sound to him and Jay immediately was like, how am I going to follow this? Like he just had the crowd just like eating it up before he even on the stage. Just like growling into the mic to start the show. Everybody's going nuts. Loved it. The late, great. Rest in peace.
Anyway, those are some good numbers.
[00:09:10] Speaker A: I like those.
That's a good question. That's a good, good chance.
[00:09:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. Thanks for partaking.
[00:09:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:17] Speaker B: I would, I would shout out that probably my favorite moment on the dance floor was because I'm a SAP and I love seeing my kids full of joy.
Was watching all the little girls come to the floor for golden and the K pop song and they love it. All my daughters and all the other little girls were out there. All the ladies were just passionately singing that one and dancing their hearts out. And it was really a beautiful sight.
[00:09:49] Speaker A: I have not seen this movie yet.
[00:09:52] Speaker B: Actually, I haven't either. My kids have watched it a bunch of times and I've heard the songs a million times.
[00:09:57] Speaker A: Our kids have not listened to the music yet either, so.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: All right.
[00:10:01] Speaker A: I know the golden song. I have heard it before.
[00:10:05] Speaker B: It's become a little ubiquitous right now.
[00:10:06] Speaker A: Our kids have not listened to it. Not because we're like, can't listen to that. It's just we haven't really. They don't ask for it so we don't really think to put it on or anything like that. We're really big into Danny Go right now.
[00:10:18] Speaker B: Danny go. What is that?
[00:10:20] Speaker A: YouTube it. He's basically like the Ms. Rachel, Ms. Slinky.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Basically like a YouTuber for kids and does like music videos for the kids. And he's got really popular music, so love that. His music kind of slaps okay. For an adult. I sometimes even find some of his songs like okay, okay, okay. I bet your kids would like. I bet your kids would like it.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: I bet they would do. Yeah.
Okay. Very cool.
Should we talk about football?
[00:10:53] Speaker A: I Guess.
[00:10:54] Speaker B: Okay, I wanted to lead into this just with, like, the reflection that I was having on the drive here, of which is not that interesting, per se, but mostly just my ruminations on how excited I am by what we've seen this weekend. It's just like, you could. You could call this segment Let Kyle Gush,
[00:11:18] Speaker A: gush away, little gusher you.
[00:11:21] Speaker B: And the kind of preface to this is like, I had a little bit different feelings going into the season this year than in previous years. And a part of that, I don't know that, like, I've gotten a little. A little tired, maybe.
One could say. I know that, like, you've kind of gotten into F1 in the off season. And this year I really got into NBA again. And that felt really fun to get back to because I have. I was, like, passionately into basketball when I was young, and then for most of my adult life, I've not been, like, actively tuning in. But this past season was so fun and watching the Pistons be awesome and that the Knicks had, like, such a historic run to their first championship. Like, it was actually a really exciting season to witness, and I loved every minute of it. So I've been.
It's kind of like in years past where sometimes I would have a bit of a promiscuous relationship with other teams and, like, be a fan of whoever's exciting in the moment, which, you know, if listeners of the show will call me out on.
But now I've been flirting with a different sport entirely, and. And it's been nice. It's been very exciting. You know, the chemistry is there.
[00:12:27] Speaker A: I find this is my own personal opinion. I don't know if you feel this way.
I have found by having an additional sport to watch and be entertained and be passionate about has made me have a healthier relationship with football overall.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: Nice. That's a great perspective. I like that. I like that. And that it's. That's very positive, which is where I'm going, because I did lead into this season with some.
I mean, definitely excitement. I look forward to the pod. I look forward to the games. But in the past, I've. I've had much higher levels of anticipation about the season than I did this year. This year, it was more like, oh, it snuck up on me. Oh, like, yeah, here is another season. I love the stories. Yeah, yeah. Like, but this week one rejuvenated me entirely. I thought that this was extremely exciting, and I feel like I'm back. I'm in. I'm totally in for the NFL season. 2026.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: What was the stat we were just talking about? It's like the Highest scoring week one since like the 70s or something.
[00:13:26] Speaker B: It's been. It was crazy.
[00:13:28] Speaker A: It was a lot.
[00:13:29] Speaker B: For those of you who didn't tune in or watch all the scores, this whole first week weekend of football was high scoring affairs. One could say probably headlines do that I haven't seen. Offense is back.
I feel like maybe we had this experience a little bit last season or recent seasons. We talk a lot about defense. We talk about the kind of declining impact of star quarterbacks and like bad quarterback play and lower scoring affairs. And we saw that the best defensive team in the league won the super bowl in the end a couple times too. Yeah, yeah, we really kind of following that story. But week one, 20, 26 regular season looks like offense is back, baby. This was nuts.
[00:14:14] Speaker A: Lot of points.
[00:14:15] Speaker B: Lot of points. There's so much that caught my attention over the course of this week. Just like rattling through a real quick list of things that just like delight me. And again, I'm a guy who just kind of. I enjoy and have loved following this whole league. Like the stories across the entire NFL and every team. There's something of interest to me. I can tune into any game on any given Sunday and find things that are interesting to me. Whether it's what this new head coach is doing or what's up with this aging veteran who's getting a second chance or this new rookie who seems promising or just whatever is happening here is interesting to me across the whole league. I love that and I really, really do like it. And this week was like fascinating watching like the immortal Derrick Henry get three rushing touchdowns.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: Ridiculous.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: What is happening.
[00:15:04] Speaker A: This is crazy. Still waiting for when he will slow down everybody.
[00:15:10] Speaker B: It's like when we used to predict like Brady's gonna start tapering off eventually. Like you can't.
Derek Henry is the running back version of like just. I don't understand how this is humanly possible.
[00:15:22] Speaker A: Yeah, he's insane.
[00:15:23] Speaker B: He is really insane. And we saw like a couple of two different games where the backup came in off the bench to basically to start their game when Kyler Murray and Sam Darnold got injured very early and then come off the bench, help their teams get a. A victory and in no small part by just throw this, throw, throw, just throw to the star receiver and. And things will work out fine.
[00:15:48] Speaker A: So happen to be two of the best receivers in the league.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: Right? It worked out. So we saw Jackson, Smith and Jigba. We saw Justin Jefferson put on A show, do what they do. And it's fun and refreshing to see the stars just like, be the stars that they've been in the past and just watch all these other wide receivers. It was a big weekend for great wide receivers. I thought Christian Watson looked amazing. Chris Olave, Mike Evans and Russ St. Brown. Malik Neighbors. Zay Flowers had a huge game. All these receivers are just lighting it up. So there was like, there was action galore.
The, like, we mentioned how much the games were high scoring. That was really fun. Some of these were shootouts. The Texans Bills came down to the wire with both of them putting up a lot of points. Bears and Panthers was the highest scoring one of the day.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: 59 points.
[00:16:37] Speaker B: Bears, bears.
[00:16:39] Speaker A: We see you. Ben Johnson. We see you.
[00:16:41] Speaker B: That was wild.
[00:16:43] Speaker A: Even after the game, they were, they were asked about, like, you know, that and that, like, how high scoring they were and they were like, I mean, it is what it is. Like, we're not gonna dwell on it. Like they, I. The Bears have a healthy mindset right now.
[00:16:58] Speaker B: I think, I think they do.
[00:17:00] Speaker A: I hate that.
[00:17:01] Speaker B: I know the NFC north is not going to disappoint. I think that is, I, I, it's
[00:17:05] Speaker A: gonna be a blessing.
[00:17:06] Speaker B: I believe it's the most interesting division in football right now and all four
[00:17:11] Speaker A: teams feel very competitive.
[00:17:13] Speaker B: Absolutely. They absolutely do. It's very interesting to see. And I thought the Bucks and Bengals was exciting. And a lot of these other games, the. See that T.J. watt touchdown I saw,
[00:17:27] Speaker A: he got a pick and he took
[00:17:29] Speaker B: it for a ticket to the house.
Like, there was just crazy stuff galore. And like the early games too.
Super bowl rematch and then Rams Niners were full of intrigue. They were like, in terms of competitiveness, kind of slower that. But the rest of the week was crazy. What we saw the Titans do against the Cowboys.
[00:17:50] Speaker A: Cool. I know. The way the, the Rams Niners game played out, though, was fascinating.
[00:17:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: No one, the team probably with the most hype gets blown out 100%. They look like garbage. And it was very. I was like, I was surprised.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: I was too. I've been on this pod before. I did a segment one season, I think called like, week one is a lie or something like that, where I did a week a look back weeks later and was like, remember how this season started, folks? And how we all got, well, overreacted and how since then everything is normalized and all of that week one nonsense didn't matter. No Derek Carr or Jameis Winston is not going to win the MVP or whatever. Like you know, and I still think that that is true. Like we. You never want to put too much stock into what occurs on week one. But there's still some exciting stuff and I'm, I'm really energized by seeing so many of like the great players come out and perform. Just balling out players that I care about too. Like I saw Gino looks like a functional quarterback leading the jets to a victory over the Titans.
[00:19:02] Speaker A: Not even gonna lie, I forgot he was on the.
[00:19:06] Speaker B: He's returned against my advice. I mean he didn't really call me and ask, but I would have said, you know, don't go back, don't do it. Don't go back to the Jets.
[00:19:16] Speaker A: That's where people gonna die.
[00:19:17] Speaker B: I know that like that almost ruined your career.
[00:19:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: But he got the dub against the Titans and, and looked pretty good. And it reminded us just like how dysfunctional the Raiders were last year. I was listening to a show just today like about by a Rick Raiders fan who's just talking about how like Chip Kelly who was the highest paid OC in history was a disastrous choice. Terrible coordination was literally calling plays in the game that weren't worked on in practice.
Their O line was atrocious. Brock Bowers is gone this season. They didn't have much for wide receivers. Nobody could get anything done.
And so anybody coming out of that, you know, needs. Needs a bit of another chance. But anyway, anyway, I could gush all day about how fun this first week was and I think we're in for a really good season.
[00:20:12] Speaker A: Man, I'm excited. I particularly, I think the game I enjoyed the most was the Giants.
[00:20:20] Speaker B: I Sunday night against the Cowboys part
[00:20:22] Speaker A: because I had put a lot of stock in that team because I felt like they have a lot going for them. I liked their head coach. I liked what I saw from Dart and Scatter Boo. Last year I knew they were getting neighbors back and I was really excited to see them play and to watch them play well.
I didn't feel like I was just watching like an average team just get some luck. I felt like they looked just legitimately good.
They just looked like a good team. Yeah. And I know it's week one and I know who knows what they're going to look like in five weeks from now. But Red, that game, what a great start for Harbaugh.
[00:21:07] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:21:08] Speaker A: In a fresh start like he clearly needed that.
[00:21:11] Speaker B: I agree.
[00:21:11] Speaker A: So that people recognize like I'm not lost a step because the other Harbaugh did not do so good.
That was not A great start for your offense that was supposed to be rejuvenated with Mike McDaniel.
[00:21:25] Speaker B: Yeah. These are two good examples of, like, the hype going in different directions. Like, I.
I think both of those teams were hyped up a little bit. The Giants, like, oh, there's an adult in the room, like this veteran coach, like, and a lot of talent on the roster. Maybe hopes should be high. And week one kind of lived up to the hype.
Over on the opposite coast, the Chargers were dangerously hyped. Like, oh, we've got that Mike McDaniel OC.
Suddenly, this is going to unlock the magical powers of Justin Herbert. He'll be unleashed.
[00:21:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Did not go.
[00:21:57] Speaker B: Not really. You lost to the Jacobe Brissette Cardinals.
No disrespect or anything, but you lost to the Cardinals.
That was pretty bad.
[00:22:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:10] Speaker B: I don't know much more to say about that.
[00:22:12] Speaker A: I think another game that I absolutely did not watch but loved looking at the scoreboard was the Browns getting blown out.
[00:22:21] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't even mention Trevor Lawrence lit up the. Those atrocious Browns.
[00:22:26] Speaker A: All I saw was just highlight after highlight, and I call them highlights.
[00:22:32] Speaker B: I know where you're going. Yeah.
[00:22:33] Speaker A: Interceptions, fumbles, sacks on Watson. I'm like, this couldn't happen to a better human being right there.
I just. Gosh.
[00:22:43] Speaker B: Yes, yes.
[00:22:45] Speaker A: You're trying to hit the. You can't find the button. Marshall's normally the button guy. Marshall's not here, by the way. We haven't acknowledged the fact that we don't know what happened with Marshall.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: We didn't even mention. We didn't even notice. We just started podcasting and I guess there's nobody else here.
[00:22:58] Speaker A: We noticed. We. I don't want Marshall hearing that being all sad. No, we noticed.
[00:23:03] Speaker B: We did.
[00:23:04] Speaker A: We waited. We waited.
[00:23:05] Speaker B: We almost didn't podcast it.
[00:23:07] Speaker A: We almost didn't.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: Maybe it's against our better, Justin. Maybe the ratings will be terrible for this episode. We never do this again.
[00:23:13] Speaker A: This is true.
[00:23:13] Speaker B: Next time he sleeps through recording.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: We're. We're hoping that's what happened.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: Yeah, it was. And the Cincinnati and the Bucks game started off slow for the Bucks. They really kind of came back in that book.
[00:23:29] Speaker B: I have a suspicion that the Bucks could be one of those sneakier teams. Their roster is low key. Pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. They've got a lot going for them, and I think that they were very competitive at times. We're beating the Bengals. It looked like they might pull it
[00:23:42] Speaker A: out, but when it was like, Saturday or Sunday, Morning that they finally announced that Baker got extended to. Yeah, they finally got that deal done.
[00:23:49] Speaker B: So. Yep. Yep.
[00:23:50] Speaker A: Good for Baker. Love that. So.
[00:23:54] Speaker B: I agree. I feel the same way.
So. So many good things. So many good things. Yeah. And one of the biggest is. Is how embarrassed the Browns got. And they got what they. What's coming to them.
[00:24:04] Speaker A: And I hope that team doesn't win a game.
[00:24:06] Speaker B: Yeah. There's a good chance they don't.
[00:24:08] Speaker A: Honestly do. They played the jets eventually. And I. Who knows, that might be like a chance for them, but that team is abysmal.
[00:24:15] Speaker B: Do you. Do you think. Did we. Did we talk about this already? Like, who's going to be the worst team? I think we made a predictions about
[00:24:21] Speaker A: who was going to be. I can't remember, but if I had to pick one, I would probably pick the Browns at the Titans.
[00:24:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:28] Speaker A: But Titans might be based on recency bias now that I've seen them in action. And I totally forgot that Robert Salah was their coach.
[00:24:35] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:24:37] Speaker A: There was a video that someone had recorded of like, at the game and they're talking about, like, you know, how the game is going.
[00:24:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:47] Speaker A: And someone just yells out, bring back Wizard Hunt. What? And I'm like, wizard Hunt. Wow. If you're calling for that coach comeback.
[00:24:58] Speaker B: Oh, my Lord.
[00:25:00] Speaker A: That's not good.
[00:25:01] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:25:01] Speaker A: Especially when you had Vrabel not that long ago, which.
[00:25:04] Speaker B: With a lot of success.
[00:25:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Despite your opinions of him as a character.
They were semi decent under variable.
[00:25:11] Speaker B: They got the number one seed at least one time. They had some playoff success. Didn't get all the way to the super bowl, but they were.
[00:25:17] Speaker A: They were good.
[00:25:18] Speaker B: They were solid. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, I. The Dolphins are going to give them a run for their money. I think the Dolphins are a terrible team.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: Malik Willis over there, too.
[00:25:28] Speaker B: Yeah. And the Dolphins are.
[00:25:30] Speaker A: They're o line.
[00:25:32] Speaker B: Like their roster.
Their roster is insane.
Have you seen, like, the money that they're paying to. Not people. Not on their roster?
[00:25:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a lot of money.
[00:25:40] Speaker B: It is. I think it's historically high. It is crazy because they're still paying a ton of money to Tua and Tyreek and Waddle. Maybe.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: I think probably McDaniel too.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: Probably. And gosh, I'm trying to remember all the other players.
It's a bunch. It's a. It's a stupid number.
[00:26:01] Speaker A: And so Chain wasn't. Is he still over there?
[00:26:04] Speaker B: I think he is.
But still, their roster is kind of a mess because most of their cap is being spent on players who don't play for them.
[00:26:14] Speaker A: They're. They need a hard reboot over there.
[00:26:17] Speaker B: They do.
[00:26:17] Speaker A: I don't know how to do that, obviously, but they got to dig themselves
[00:26:20] Speaker B: out of a deep cap hole. Yeah.
[00:26:23] Speaker A: Do we. Do we have any hot takes? I don't know if we had any hot takes from anybody.
[00:26:27] Speaker B: Not to my knowledge. Actually. I don't think I've talked to anybody about anything football related.
[00:26:33] Speaker A: A couple people, and we didn't get any. So this is the first official shout out to everybody. Yeah, we need more hot takes.
[00:26:41] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, we do. Right into the show.
[00:26:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Don't be shy. You don't have to wait for a text from us. You can text us your takes right away.
[00:26:51] Speaker B: 100%. That would be fun. We want to mention your name on this show and help you.
[00:26:56] Speaker A: We love hearing what you guys have to say because sometimes it's different than what we have to say.
[00:27:02] Speaker B: That's true. And it's so fun to react to the outrageous things you send us.
[00:27:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:07] Speaker B: You're, you know, you're abiding love for your quarterback.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: That's right. Yeah.
[00:27:14] Speaker B: Not our favorite, but yeah, we're there.
[00:27:18] Speaker A: They should be starting. What are we talking about?
[00:27:21] Speaker B: I wasn't gonna name names, but, yeah, we want it. And we. We will even have a call in once in a while. Hit us up if you want to be, like, on the line live during a recording sesh and. And deliver your take. And we can respond in real time or surprise us with something. And we've had callers call in with and trying to stump us with trivia. Good luck with that. We are. We are very knowledgeable. We know ball.
[00:27:44] Speaker A: We do know ball.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: Yeah. But take your best shot.
[00:27:48] Speaker A: Okay. So we can move into.
I have a segment.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
I was almost winding down.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I. I have a thing that we can do. I. I could have. I didn't have a, like, ton of time to prep this, but I had, like, enough to get, like, enough information here.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: Right.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: There is obviously the ability to go way deeper into what I did. And I have thought about even, like, revisiting this in the future, but we got into a conversation last weekend when we were watching the first football game. Actually, not last weekend.
[00:28:25] Speaker B: We watched Wednesday nights.
[00:28:27] Speaker A: Wednesday night's football game, Seahawks, Patriots, together. And we had a very interesting conversation about, like, ranking quarterbacks and stuff like this. And I had this thought, and I've thought this for a while, that ranking any player is really hard.
There's.
[00:28:46] Speaker B: I totally agree.
[00:28:46] Speaker A: There's a lot of Variables. And no matter how hard I try, I can never quite pinpoint how I feel exactly about a player in terms of, like, where I would put them on a list 1 through 10.
I don't know if you're that way, but that's me.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: Yeah, it's me, too.
[00:29:07] Speaker A: But I thought, I'm gonna give it a whirl. I'm not gonna rank anything right now. But what I do want to do is I want to do some comparisons here.
[00:29:17] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:29:18] Speaker A: I'm not gonna name their names. Oh, I'm gonna give you two quarterbacks.
[00:29:23] Speaker B: Okay. This would be fun.
[00:29:24] Speaker A: And you're gonna go through and you're gonna be able to identify, like, whether or not you. Which one would you take? With very little information.
[00:29:32] Speaker B: Okay. Okay.
[00:29:34] Speaker A: I did take stats from a particular season. I won't tell you which, just so you have a little bit of, like, a vagueness.
[00:29:42] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:29:42] Speaker A: But I did look to see how consistent those stats were over the last, like, four or five years.
And most of these stats with these players are pretty on par for what you're going to see about every year, give or take. Some of them have some pretty good seasons in the mix, but none of them are, like, huge outliers, which, when we talk about certain players. So you can see what I mean.
[00:30:10] Speaker B: Maybe this will be evident, but I'm getting confused.
[00:30:12] Speaker A: What I mean is, I looked up certain. I tried to find, like, the Met. The main metrics that people generally associate with good quarterback play. Sure. So yards completion percentage, touchdowns, interceptions, and your overall rating.
[00:30:28] Speaker B: Right.
[00:30:28] Speaker A: Those tend to be the main metrics that people look at.
[00:30:31] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:30:32] Speaker A: Along with the eye test. Some of these guys just pass an eye test that other guys don't.
[00:30:38] Speaker B: Right, Right.
[00:30:38] Speaker A: Which we can talk about.
[00:30:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:40] Speaker A: But what I mean is, when I looked at these stats, I looked pat in past years to see were they consistent or not.
Like, was I, like.
[00:30:49] Speaker B: Are you comparing them against himself?
[00:30:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:30:53] Speaker A: But I did this for all 10 guys that we're going to go through.
[00:30:56] Speaker B: Oh, okay. So you're going to blind give me 10 player profiles.
[00:31:00] Speaker A: Essentially, I'm going to do it one at, like, two at a time. And you're going to pin them up against each other. You're going to pick which one you
[00:31:05] Speaker B: want, and these are their career stats or an isolated.
[00:31:08] Speaker A: This is one season. But that's what I mean. I looked at one season, but then I confirmed whether or not this was that season. An outlier. Should I find a different season, or is this, like, pretty on par with what we would See, from year to year for them.
[00:31:22] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:31:22] Speaker A: Does that make sense?
[00:31:23] Speaker B: And every time you do a pair, you're doing the same year for that pair.
[00:31:27] Speaker A: Correct. This is all the same season.
[00:31:29] Speaker B: Oh, every pair is from the same year.
[00:31:32] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:31:33] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Okay, okay, okay. I'm falling.
[00:31:36] Speaker A: All right, so, quarterback one.
[00:31:37] Speaker B: This is a season that I would have watched.
[00:31:40] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely. This is not like, you know, 1982 or something. No, no. This is like modern football. Okay, so these are all quarterbacks that are starting still.
Okay.
[00:31:49] Speaker B: Oh, dang.
[00:31:50] Speaker A: Quarterback number one. They had 3,381 yards.
[00:31:54] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: They had a 66 completion percentage.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:31:58] Speaker A: 23 touchdowns, six interceptions, but an overall rating of 101. Okay. Quarterback number two.
3,041 yards, 64% completion rating, 19 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 93 rating.
You want one or two?
[00:32:21] Speaker B: Number one sounds superior. More yards, better rating, better completion percentage, Right?
[00:32:25] Speaker A: Correct. Congratulations, you have eliminated C.J. stroud. Oh, okay, so Stroud is out. That's who you just did not want.
[00:32:33] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:32:33] Speaker A: I'm not going to tell you who you have right now, though.
[00:32:37] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. In the end, you're gonna. You're gonna tell me who.
[00:32:39] Speaker A: When you eliminate. When you eliminate them, I will tell you who you have.
[00:32:43] Speaker B: Okay. Or, like, who it was that you eliminated. But later, I'm gonna find out who I did go with. You will go, and we're gonna find out if I correct. If I, like, disagree with what I chose now.
[00:32:54] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:32:54] Speaker B: Okay. That'll be fun. Okay, great. Great. So continue.
[00:32:56] Speaker A: You got rid of Stroud.
[00:32:57] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: And I do think a lot of these guys, for reference, are pretty comparable.
[00:33:02] Speaker B: Okay. I think. Interesting, because I. I do actually think Stroud is a pretty good player, and I would take him over a lot of other guys.
[00:33:08] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:33:09] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:33:09] Speaker A: Okay. Quarterback. And if you need me to remind you of your current quarterback choice rate, like, scores, I will let you know.
[00:33:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:17] Speaker A: Quarterback number three.
3,693 yards.
[00:33:22] Speaker B: Right.
[00:33:23] Speaker A: 63 completion percentage, 26 touchdowns, but 11 interceptions, 90.6 passive rating or, like, rating.
[00:33:35] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:33:36] Speaker A: Right, right, right. Compared to your 3,381. 66, 23 touchdowns, six interceptions, 101.
[00:33:45] Speaker B: Okay. I'm still going with my first guy.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: Okay. You have successfully gotten rid of Baker Mayfield.
[00:33:50] Speaker B: Okay. All right. All right.
[00:33:51] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:33:51] Speaker B: Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. Yeah. He was one of the yard passing leaders for.
I feel like this is last year.
[00:34:00] Speaker A: Maybe. Maybe.
All right. QB4, 3727 yards, 66 completion rating, 26 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 94 overall rating.
[00:34:18] Speaker B: No, I know this Is this is Sam Darnold?
[00:34:21] Speaker A: No.
[00:34:22] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:34:23] Speaker A: Justin Herbert.
[00:34:24] Speaker B: Oh, dang. Okay, I just eliminated Herbert.
[00:34:26] Speaker A: Be surprised how consistent his numbers are across the years, by the way.
[00:34:30] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[00:34:30] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. A lot of these guys actually are pretty consistent with their numbers. All right, next guy. 3,942 yards.
[00:34:39] Speaker B: Dang.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: Not bad.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:41] Speaker A: 58 completion rating, though.
27 touchdowns to only seven interceptions. Not bad.
[00:34:50] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:34:50] Speaker A: 90.1 rating.
[00:34:54] Speaker B: 90.1 rating.
I'm guessing this is Drake May.
[00:34:58] Speaker A: I'm not going to tell you unless you pick him.
[00:35:00] Speaker B: I'm not picking him.
[00:35:01] Speaker A: Okay. You don't want this guy. You want to stick with the original guy.
[00:35:03] Speaker B: I'm gonna stick with my first guy.
[00:35:04] Speaker A: Okay. That was Caleb Williams.
[00:35:06] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:35:08] Speaker A: Not a bad season from him, obviously. So next one.
4,007 yards, 60 completion rating, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 91 rating.
[00:35:26] Speaker B: I think that this is Jared Goff.
I am.
Let's just keep it going. I'll stick with number one.
[00:35:35] Speaker A: Number one.
[00:35:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:36] Speaker A: You ordered Trevor Lawrence.
[00:35:38] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:35:38] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: Wow. He had a 4,000yard passing season.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: I was surprised by that.
The next one, I think that was one of his better years too. Okay, next one. 4,048 yards, 67% completion rating. Pretty good.
25 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 99 rating.
Okay, reminder, you had 3,381 yards, 66% completion rating, 23 touchdowns, but only six interceptions and 101 rating.
[00:36:12] Speaker B: I'm a sucker for a quarterback who doesn't throw the ball away a lot, so I'm sticking with number one. I like that. High passer rating, low interception rate.
[00:36:22] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. That's a good. That's good.
[00:36:24] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:36:25] Speaker A: Sam Darnold.
[00:36:26] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I just got rid of Sam.
Okay. Yeah, yeah, he was. He was productive.
[00:36:30] Speaker A: I think now we're gonna get into some very interesting ones.
4,000. So QB 8.
[00:36:38] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:36:38] Speaker A: 4,394 yards.
[00:36:42] Speaker B: Okay. So this is like a thousand more passing yards than QB1.
[00:36:45] Speaker A: This is a lot.
[00:36:46] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: 70% completion rating.
[00:36:50] Speaker B: Holy butts.
[00:36:51] Speaker A: 31 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 113 rating.
[00:36:59] Speaker B: That sounds like Matthew Stafford to me.
[00:37:02] Speaker A: Pretty good numbers.
[00:37:03] Speaker B: Pretty good numbers. Okay. I'm taking this guy.
[00:37:06] Speaker A: Okay. You got rid of. And I think you stuck with your man for a while.
[00:37:11] Speaker B: It was Lamar Jackson, wasn't it?
[00:37:12] Speaker A: No, it was not. That was Jordan Love. Jordan Love?
[00:37:15] Speaker B: Really?
[00:37:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:16] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:37:17] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. Okay.
[00:37:18] Speaker B: See, I was. I was hanging with my guy.
[00:37:19] Speaker A: You were. I was proud of you. I. I actually, when I ran through this myself, I had Jordan Love going about as Far as you.
[00:37:27] Speaker B: Okay. Interesting.
[00:37:28] Speaker A: I had him, especially once I looked at his numbers over the years. They're pretty consistent too. He's pretty reliably right around that ballpark.
[00:37:37] Speaker B: Okay. Okay.
[00:37:38] Speaker A: Which is good?
[00:37:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it is good.
[00:37:40] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:37:40] Speaker A: All right, next guy. 4,552 yards, 67 completion rating a little lower. 30 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 99.5 rating.
[00:37:54] Speaker B: Oof.
No, I'm not taking them.
[00:37:57] Speaker A: Okay. That was Dak Prescott.
[00:37:59] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Okay. I would have been happy to carry forward with that, but those are still pretty good numbers. Now, this is probably. This is the 2025 four season. I think. I think that's what you went with last guy.
[00:38:13] Speaker A: 4564 rate or yards, 68% completion rating, 34 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 105.5 rating.
[00:38:25] Speaker B: I'm taking this guy.
[00:38:26] Speaker A: You want this guy?
[00:38:26] Speaker B: I feel like it's Josh Allen.
[00:38:28] Speaker A: This Jared Goff.
You landed on Jared Goff. Oh, you got rid of Drake May.
[00:38:37] Speaker B: No way.
[00:38:38] Speaker A: May season was pretty good last year. This was last year's stats.
[00:38:41] Speaker B: This was last year. Okay. Dang. Oh, my God.
[00:38:44] Speaker A: That was Jared Goff.
[00:38:44] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:38:45] Speaker A: His numbers look pretty much like that.
Since 2022.
[00:38:51] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:38:51] Speaker A: His second year with the Lions, he has pretty much been consistently this.
[00:38:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: I felt when Marshall particularly said he could find 10 quarterbacks better than Jared Goff, I did not.
I was not convinced that that felt like an accurate display of reality.
[00:39:15] Speaker B: Right.
[00:39:15] Speaker A: To me.
And Prescott, Mae Darnold, Lawrence, Caleb Herbert, Mayfield, Love and Stroud.
All of those guys he was putting in front of him, by the way, and none of them had stats.
[00:39:31] Speaker B: So you plucked those guys because I.
[00:39:35] Speaker A: No, I actually looked for guys that I felt like were reasonably close to him. There was some that I looked at, but their stats, like Jaden Daniels effectively only had one year where you had numbers reliably that you could look at.
And the year he had were like.
Like not. They were good, but not as good as you'd think they were based on, you know, just comparatively.
And he was injured for most of last year.
[00:40:06] Speaker B: Right.
[00:40:07] Speaker A: So I don't feel like he was reliable enough for me to be able to go back and look at more for more stats. Caleb Williams was a stretch for me to put on here, but he had a really good season last year, so I wanted to put him in there.
[00:40:18] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:40:18] Speaker A: Because he is, I think, on the rise.
Yeah, I think Darnold's on the rise too.
[00:40:24] Speaker B: Oh, interesting.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: And then Jalen Hurts, I looked at, but his numbers were pretty inconsistent from one year to the next.
[00:40:33] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:40:33] Speaker A: And so I never really felt like I was like, I just don't know about Jalen Hurts.
[00:40:38] Speaker B: Gotcha. Yeah.
Interestingly, you had no, you didn't have any of, like, the elite tier.
[00:40:44] Speaker A: I avoided them because most of the time, most people.
So this comes back to, like, how I would rate if I had to give a rating to quarterbacks.
[00:40:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:53] Speaker A: Since 2022, in no particular order, my top five would be Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Matt Stafford.
Fair. Yeah. In no particular order, because you could argue any order for all five of those guys. Joe Burrow's numbers are quite good when he's healthy.
And then after that, I actually put dak Prescott at 6.
[00:41:19] Speaker B: I like that. Yeah.
[00:41:20] Speaker A: Yeah. I looked at his numbers.
[00:41:22] Speaker B: He's pretty solid when he's healthy. Their offense is great. He's very Burrow. Like, I feel like very Burrow and Prescott are kind of my nfc, AFC equivalents of each other because they are like processors. Pocket passers eat up the defense. And when they're healthy, the offense is always great. You can just put money in the bank. The offense is good.
[00:41:44] Speaker A: I gained more appreciation for Dak when I was looking at his stats, just because I like, he passes the eye test. He's very athletic.
He feels like he's a good quarterback. When you watch him, his numbers show he's a good quarterback.
[00:42:00] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:42:01] Speaker A: And when I was looking at him, like, it's kind of hard to ignore. Like, I think I would probably put him above Jared Goff. I, I, I do think it's closer than I think I would have thought between the two of them.
[00:42:12] Speaker B: Interesting.
[00:42:13] Speaker A: But I do think Dak has more athletic ability.
[00:42:19] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:42:20] Speaker A: And so I did, like, it was the eye test for me.
[00:42:22] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: So I would put Dak above Jared Goff, but then I would put Jared Goff at 7.
[00:42:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:29] Speaker A: I'd feel pretty cool.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: Some of these guys like, like, the knock on deck and equivalent for a couple other guys is like, well, you know, their numbers and their performance are exemplary. You can't knock those. So the only critique people have is like, they've not gotten over the hump, they haven't won big games, their teams, and they've performed poorly in the playoffs, etc.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: Correct. But that is the same thing. You could use that against Lamar and Josh.
[00:42:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:58] Speaker A: Because both of them have equally struggled to capitalize in getting into the playoffs and doing something with it. Right, right. Both MVPs and still haven't, you know, won a Super Bowl.
[00:43:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:11] Speaker A: You know, Stafford's got that, you know, like, Joe Burrow's at least been to the Super Bowl.
[00:43:17] Speaker B: Right.
[00:43:17] Speaker A: Right. Even if he doesn't have an mvp.
[00:43:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:19] Speaker A: I bet he'll get one eventually, though. If I had to put money on it, yeah, I probably would do, but.
But it kind of got me thinking, like, I don't know if I could officially, because all of those guys, I would say probably Goff and Prescott are, I would say, above.
And then you have, like, a solid argument for some of these guys to, like, join them. I think if Drake may keep playing the way he has been the last couple years, he's going to be hard to ignore.
[00:43:50] Speaker B: What a fun draft class that was.
[00:43:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:53] Speaker B: Caleb Williams, Drake May, Jaden Daniels, and now Bo Nix.
And then two other. I think that was the same draft class that Michael Penix and JJ Were in. They're not maybe having the flashy careers, but those other four guys are now performing great for competitive teams.
It's wild.
[00:44:12] Speaker A: But part of this was geared for when Marshall was going to be here, so I could be like, goff is way better than you think he is.
And he. While he does kind of look a little bit of like, a goober, and his numbers may. Or like, maybe he's not as athletic as some of these other guys, he still is a really good passer, and he has, since joining the Lions, learned to make smarter decisions with the football.
[00:44:40] Speaker B: His name was, like, synonymous with, like, making a mistake or, like, golfed it up. Yeah, we, like, goofed when the trade went through. And, like, that first season, it was, like.
It was kind of depressing, discouraging.
I remember thinking, like, there's no way. Like, what? Now we're stuck with golf?
[00:45:02] Speaker A: And the Lions were very convinced this was their guy.
Like, they were very adamant. Like, no, he is. This is who we believe.
[00:45:12] Speaker B: 100 vindicated. Yeah. Over time, I was. I was so skeptical of so many things. Like, as much as I liked Dan Campbell from the start, I thought, I'm skeptical that this is going to work.
[00:45:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:45:24] Speaker B: I'm not sure that this is going to turn into a bunch of success. Just being likable doesn't translate to wins. And then the golf thing, all the other moves that they were making were, like, crazy. And then we just watched Stafford win a Super bowl immediately.
Like, the whole thing, like, oh, gosh, this is.
It's not gonna work out. Wait, it's working out?
Yeah, it's been incredible, you know, which we've talked about endlessly for recent seasons
[00:45:51] Speaker A: of the show the biggest, biggest reason I didn't include Mahomes out like any of those top five guys.
They all have Patrick. I think in particular his stats would be very clearly better especially some of. Since 2022. Some of his best seasons were like right around there.
[00:46:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:11] Speaker A: Recently he's been on a little bit of a downer but.
And Lamar. I mean he was injured last year.
[00:46:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:18] Speaker A: But then he's got an MVP season. So does Allen.
[00:46:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:22] Speaker A: Stafford. I mean. Right.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: Right.
[00:46:24] Speaker A: Their numbers, they like are huge.
Baker had a pretty good season last year as well. His number or. And like actually no. It was the year before that. His numbers were even better than last last year.
[00:46:38] Speaker B: This is his third year with the Buccaneers because I'm losing track.
[00:46:41] Speaker A: They.
[00:46:42] Speaker B: Because he had that bad year with like Carolina and the Rams where he was.
[00:46:45] Speaker A: So the Lions went to the NFC championship game in 2020. 2024. Three season.
[00:46:55] Speaker B: The end of that regular season. So it was February 2024 or January
[00:46:59] Speaker A: 2024 somewhere around there. So they were there for 2024 and they had to play the Bucks to get there and Baker was on that team.
That's the last time I remember. So that was. That might have been his first year over there because when did the rant the rams won in 21:22.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't. I don't really.
[00:47:27] Speaker A: Because the Bucks were the year before them, I'm pretty sure. Weren't they?
[00:47:33] Speaker B: I. I'm.
[00:47:34] Speaker A: I'm struggling to recall.
It doesn't really matter. But Baker stats have been pretty decent. Pretty good actually with the bucks.
So.
[00:47:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:47:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:47:48] Speaker B: 100.
[00:47:49] Speaker A: Anyways. All that to say this is his
[00:47:52] Speaker B: fourth season with them.
[00:47:53] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:47:54] Speaker B: Actually he played and he played all 17 games every year.
23, 24 and 25.
Remarkable. Has the. The durability of this guy.
Yeah.
[00:48:08] Speaker A: But yeah. All this to say I think you can easily. I don't know if I could ever fully rank every quarterback.
All I could probably really do is put them in buckets of like elite solid average and.
[00:48:24] Speaker B: Right.
[00:48:24] Speaker A: Bad.
[00:48:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:25] Speaker A: I think that's about all I could really effectively do because once you're in there, I mean swap Jordan Love and Jared Goff, they're probably going to have similar records. Right. I don't think the team is going to change dynamically very much.
[00:48:42] Speaker B: Right. Right.
[00:48:43] Speaker A: But if I swap Josh Allen and Jared Goff, I think the lines are infinitely better.
[00:48:50] Speaker B: He can do things that hardly anyone else can do.
[00:48:53] Speaker A: Right. You put Lamar on pretty much any other team.
[00:48:57] Speaker B: I mean, you know, the floor of the offense is suddenly top 10?
[00:49:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:49:02] Speaker B: At the worst.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's crazy. But that's part of the fun of this. That's why, like, sports. Like, I like team sports.
I'm not particularly big on individual sports as much. I feel like, is it a take, like, with an individual sport ranking, it seems a little less.
It's fuzzy. It looks. It seems more like, way more.
[00:49:28] Speaker A: Yeah, it's way more clear cut.
[00:49:29] Speaker B: Yeah. And so what's the. What's even the fun of it?
[00:49:31] Speaker A: Yeah, like.
[00:49:32] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, like, that's the rankings. Like, that's where they are in this golf tournament or something like that.
[00:49:37] Speaker A: It's just better.
[00:49:38] Speaker B: It's just the points accrued or something like that.
On level playing fields or tracks or courses or something like that. Versus team sport.
[00:49:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:49:46] Speaker B: How do you rank these? Like, how do you.
[00:49:48] Speaker A: It's hard.
[00:49:49] Speaker B: Love it.
[00:49:50] Speaker A: Because people talk about, like, quarterbacks, and it's like. Then the argument's like, whoa. But look who Jared Goff has on his team here. Gibbs. He's got Saint Brown. Like, you know, some of these other guys don't have that. And I'm like, dak Prescott doesn't get that. And he's got CD Lamb and George Pickens. And George Pickens, like, come on. Like, he's got two of the best receivers in the league.
[00:50:12] Speaker B: Totally. Totally. Burrows had that this whole time. Bro's been blessed with phenomenal wide receiver
[00:50:16] Speaker A: talent cup and Puka that Super bowl year.
[00:50:20] Speaker B: I mean, you know what Lamar would do to have Lamar Chase on his roster. He's never had a good wide receiver. And say Flowers is coming out. He's doing. He's doing his job and appreciating that.
[00:50:29] Speaker A: But, like, if anything, it makes me appreciate Josh Allen way more.
[00:50:33] Speaker B: Oh, totally.
[00:50:34] Speaker A: The dude does so much with so little.
[00:50:38] Speaker B: So true. It's so true. Yeah, we see it over and over and over. Yeah, we've seen moms do it, too, just, like, carry the teams. But I. I think that. I think there's. At any given time, there's like, 20, at least 20 quarterbacks that you could win a championship with.
[00:50:56] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:50:57] Speaker B: Where you're. If your roster is good, but there's. There's a handful.
[00:51:00] Speaker A: You know, I hate the arguments of, like, oh, he's only good because the O line. I'm. Like, half the guys who win a Super bowl are behind, like, one of the best O lines in the league. You don't get there because your O line sucks.
[00:51:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:14] Speaker A: Like, yeah, it's kind of come on.
[00:51:15] Speaker B: Required. Yeah, that's True. That's true.
[00:51:20] Speaker A: Good. That's all I have.
[00:51:22] Speaker B: Okay. That was, that was kind of fun and interesting when I caught on.
[00:51:25] Speaker A: Just support my boy a little bit there.
[00:51:28] Speaker B: I, I knew you were gonna go there before we started and then I forgot during.
[00:51:34] Speaker A: I was just happy you stuck with Jordan Love for as long as you did. Yeah. I was like, good for, for you. Like you do. You are faithful to your guy.
[00:51:43] Speaker B: I, I actually do like Jordan Love. He. I. I'm more endeared to him every season. The more I watch him, the more I love, like, his aggressive play. I think it's so funny how he seems.
I don't know if he actually did pick up this Aaron Rodgers stuff, but the way he only does like these back foot fadeaway throws all the time. Just like Rogers always did.
[00:52:04] Speaker A: He had a throw yesterday that was pretty impressive. Like across his body, hit the. And he was like escaping the pocket, was about to get tackled, threw it across his body, perfectly thrown.
I was like, that was pretty good.
[00:52:22] Speaker B: I like it. I like what I'm seeing. I think he's more than competent.
[00:52:25] Speaker A: That's the thing about all of these guys is we forget, like, these guys are the best of the best.
[00:52:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:33] Speaker A: Like.
[00:52:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:33] Speaker A: To be an NFL quarterback, even a, an average one, is so much better than what most people could ever accomplish, even in college. These are like the top 1 percenters.
[00:52:49] Speaker B: Like 100. True.
[00:52:51] Speaker A: Even if you don't like a guy like Mason Rudolph.
[00:52:54] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:55] Speaker A: He played and was like, you know, slightly below average.
[00:53:01] Speaker B: Right, Right.
[00:53:02] Speaker A: Which is still better.
[00:53:03] Speaker B: Right.
[00:53:04] Speaker A: Than what most college quarterbacks will ever be.
[00:53:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. It's totally true. Totally true. Just like people forget that backups in this league are like incredible talents.
[00:53:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:16] Speaker B: Just the backups. It's wild. It's wild to see and I love it. I do like that. And I'm reminding myself of that all the time because I'm not much of a hater. And I know that a lot of the sports fan baseball just loves to dog others like the rivals or the, the player that's letting them down or whatever. We'd love to just like hate on.
[00:53:37] Speaker A: It's easy from the couch.
[00:53:39] Speaker B: Totally, totally.
[00:53:40] Speaker A: I'm. I'm no better than that.
You think you could take it? I could take at least one hit from Aaron Donald.
[00:53:53] Speaker B: We know it's gonna come out of you. As soon as, like, Aaron Rodgers has a bad game or something like that, you're gonna come in here and glow it a little bit.
[00:54:00] Speaker A: That guy sucks.
Mvp.
[00:54:04] Speaker B: What? Yep. Yep. Yeah, they did get the win and yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't terrible. So we'll see. We'll see. The, the Steelers could be interesting.
[00:54:12] Speaker A: I have them winning a playoff game in my prediction. So.
[00:54:16] Speaker B: Yeah, that's wild.
[00:54:18] Speaker A: I don't know if I feel like they're going to win their division after
[00:54:21] Speaker B: what Lamar did, but yeah, that I could just keep going back to Derrick Henry. Like, gosh, if he just keeps looking like that, what the heck. Yeah, it's crazy. Anyway, let's get out of here. What do you say? Yep, we'll wrap up, wrap up the show. We did a quick episode and we'll have Marshall back on the mic with us next week. Thank you all for listening. Share the show. We want to get more listeners. We want to do make this more engaging with our audience. We love all of you. You're the reason we do this.
And until next week, where is the outro song for?
I think it is.
That's it. That's the one that was so smooth. The right button.
[00:55:02] Speaker A: This is where we make fun of people at this point.
[00:55:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Who do we want to diss?
[00:55:08] Speaker A: Well, I mean, pretty sure Marshall fell asleep.
[00:55:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I think it did. I think he did.
[00:55:14] Speaker A: This is not the first time.
[00:55:16] Speaker B: When do you think we'll get a text from a. Sorry guys, text.
[00:55:19] Speaker A: What's 1030 as of now?
[00:55:22] Speaker B: Do you think we.
Or in the morning
[00:55:26] Speaker A: he's kind of, he's probably going to do that thing where he wakes up like in the middle of the night and text cuz he realizes he fell asleep.
[00:55:31] Speaker B: Yeah, I think it would.
[00:55:32] Speaker A: I bet like somewhere between 11:30 and midnight we're going to get a text.
[00:55:36] Speaker B: Yeah, that's a good guess. That's a good guess.
[00:55:38] Speaker A: I can't wait to see it.
[00:55:39] Speaker B: I can't wait. Yeah. Yeah, we'll. We'll give him a gentle ribbing next week. We'll when we are on the mic together with them. So until next time folks, thanks for listening to the point after Cheers.
