Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to the Point after show with Kyle Maurer, Marshall heslav and Ian DeWitt. This is the show where the guys attempt to pick the winners of the weekly NFL games along with some healthy.
[00:00:10] Speaker B: Debate about current topics.
[00:00:12] Speaker A: Let's go, Ian. What do you think?
Crickets.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:00:20] Speaker A: A little delayed.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: Yeah. There you go.
[00:00:23] Speaker A: Can't produce and be the co host of the show.
[00:00:25] Speaker B: Ian brings the energy. What are we gonna do, man? This is gonna be a sleepy pod.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: No, I got good energy.
[00:00:30] Speaker B: Okay, good.
Our three way has become a two way, man.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Don't say it like that. It's really weird.
[00:00:36] Speaker B: Sorry, it came out wrong.
You and I, Marshall and Kyle, in the studio here podcasting. My daughter was asking me, what's a podcast? She was trying to figure it out, trying to piece it together. I'm like, it's a radio show. But you wouldn't know what that is either.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: How did you describe it?
[00:00:55] Speaker B: She was comparing it to my wife listens to audio books. So mommy will listen to a book that's like someone just talking.
Is it like that? And you know, I don't know. I guess it's the closest thing.
[00:01:06] Speaker A: That is pretty similar.
[00:01:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:08] Speaker A: I could get behind that.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: Okay. My kids, they just don't know. They don't know what a podcast is. They're trying to figure it out, wrap their heads around it and what can we.
What are the parallels in their life? Audio only format, you know, it's like.
[00:01:19] Speaker A: Listening to your brother, except for a lot more people are listening to him speak than you.
[00:01:26] Speaker B: Your brother.
[00:01:28] Speaker A: I was gonna say your classmate, but. Right. Homeschooled.
[00:01:31] Speaker B: My little. My littlest. Kids still get very confused when we're on a phone call and there's no video.
Like, I want to see. I want to see. Show me. Look at me like, no, it's just audio only, kid. I'm sorry.
[00:01:42] Speaker A: What a life they live.
[00:01:43] Speaker B: It's so weird. Kids growing up these days, they just don't. They don't get it.
[00:01:47] Speaker A: Makes you feel nostalgic thinking about when. How old were you when you got your first phone?
[00:01:54] Speaker B: Old, probably 16, 17, something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:01:58] Speaker A: I think I got mine when I was like 13.
[00:02:00] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:02:00] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I got the Nextel Brick T9. I could T9 in my pocket. Like Matt Damon and what's it called? It's a movie with Jack Nicholson and.
[00:02:11] Speaker B: Oh, the Departed.
[00:02:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
That's really bad that I forgot. It's been a long day, guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all right.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: That's cool.
[00:02:18] Speaker A: Speaking of nostalgic though, question of the day. What do you. What game do you think of when I say the words nostalgic? Gaming.
[00:02:28] Speaker B: Oh, man.
To me, I kind of go to a time period because there's. There's. In my history, there's a bit of a peak, a sports peak in my.
Probably like 14 to 13 to 14 to maybe up to 17 years.
Those were like, peak where, like, I was subscribed to the sports magazines. I was watching everything that I could. I was collecting all the trading cards.
I was following sports all year long religiously. So everything in, like 99 through 2002, I was there for everything. College, all the more, all the major sports. Maybe a little light on hockey, but still kind of there. I remember all of it so vividly. There's a time where I could recite the starting lineup for every NBA team. I knew everything that was going on in all those sports, so I watched all the series.
It was kind of hard to. Because we didn't. No one in my family at all cares about sports. And my parents were not on board, would never watch a sport at all.
I didn't have access to a tv, so I was usually like watching it at friends, watching it at grandma's. Sneaking.
[00:03:49] Speaker A: Sneaking to Grandma.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: Sneaking. Yeah. Sneaking into a closet on like a tiny toy black and white TV to watch, like NBA games or using my Walkman that actually could pick up TV channels. I could flip it from am, fn. Yeah. Like the tape. Like a tape. Cassette player.
[00:04:06] Speaker A: A cassette, Yeah.
[00:04:07] Speaker B: I didn't have a CD one, I had a tape one. And I could switch it from am, FM or TV and I could pick up like NBA and NBC while I mow the lawn. Wow.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: How about the song?
[00:04:19] Speaker B: Yeah, like the.
What's the Family Guy did that.
[00:04:24] Speaker A: Snl did it.
[00:04:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
Anything during that era, I remember vividly. Like Yankees versus Braves, World Series. And we talked about last week with Bernie Williams catching that final out. Derek Jeter, all this. I remember Chipper Jones and stuff.
A game that stands out that I'll never forget till the day I die. Eastern Conference, NBA Finals, Game 5. 99, Pacers, Knicks.
Unbelievable game.
Fantastic game, that rivalry. Ewing was on the bench for the Knicks, but it went all the way down to the wire. Reggie Miller's shooting. Lights out. We got Rick Smith out there for the Pacers.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:05:02] Speaker B: Chuck Alan Houston. Alan Houston was one of my favorites. Marcus Camby, whatever happened to that guy?
[00:05:08] Speaker A: Very tall, a lot of rebounds. Loved Marcus Camby on my fantasy basketball team for a long time.
[00:05:12] Speaker B: He was great.
And Latrell Sprewell, what a character during that time.
[00:05:17] Speaker A: You have the.
The hair with the jingling beads in the back.
[00:05:21] Speaker B: I don't remember jingling beads, but he had the great cornrows and he was a. He was a phenomenal player. But Larry Johnson took over that game that came down to the wire. 17 seconds left.
Knicks down by three. Larry Johnson catches a contested inbounds ball, completes a four point play in order.
[00:05:43] Speaker A: To come traveling back and put the.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: Knicks on top and win game five of that series. It was just a phenomenal game. I'll never forget it. The plays Alan Houston made. Loved that. Maybe the same year, greatest show on turf that run the Super Bowl. The. Yeah, the first. Preceded by the Music City Miracle, one of the first football plays that I remember. And then going on to watch Titans, Rams in the Super Bowl. What a battle. That was historic stuff. So I'll never forget those.
[00:06:14] Speaker A: This actually goes to show listeners how much we prep for this pod. Because when I wrote this question of the day, probably four minutes before we recorded, I was referring to video gaming.
So I'm gonna turn and go to Kyle's answer, and then I'm gonna give my video game answer, and then that time Kyle will fill the gap with what his video game answer gives him.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Are you kidding me right now?
I'm so sorry.
You said game. I'm like gaming. Yeah, yeah, Nick Spacers.
[00:06:46] Speaker A: Yeah, totally. All right, so I'm gonna start with the first game I ever remember.
Notre Dame versus ucla.
[00:06:53] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:06:53] Speaker A: Samarja, game winning touchdown. Him galloping and holding the ball in front of him as he walked into the end zone to beat UCLA in a walk off, probably 12 seconds left. And this first game I ever remember, wow. Notre Dame wearing just beautiful. The beautiful, like blue rustled jerseys. They were champion, I think, at the time and had the long sleeves. Oh, so great. Okay, Just nostalgic. Now let's go gaming. I always think of this in like two different fashions because this is not a gaming podcast.
[00:07:24] Speaker B: Right.
[00:07:26] Speaker A: But I could go a lot of different avenues, but I'm going to go to two. Okay. They go hand in hand, these games. Right, right.
Jak and Daxter.
[00:07:35] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:07:36] Speaker A: Sly Cooper.
[00:07:37] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:07:37] Speaker A: I always think of. I was the original Twitch streamer, and by that, I mean the original Twitch viewer. I would come home and watch my younger brother play Assassin's Creed on the couch. And this is a game I was never good at either of these, but I would watch. Tommy and Jamie just dominated. Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter. It was really? Blast. I enjoyed watching it.
[00:07:58] Speaker B: Okay, that takes you back.
[00:07:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Just makes me smile thinking about it. And I think I know your answer. On the count of three, I could probably say it with you.
[00:08:06] Speaker B: Okay.
Yeah. It's a great guess.
[00:08:10] Speaker A: One, two, three.
[00:08:11] Speaker B: Tony Hawks, Pro Skater two.
Any of them. I mean, obviously any of it. That's. That's probably the game I remember the fondest to. To be.
To be fair.
Thank you.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: In honor of Ian.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: Any video game I played bring makes.
[00:08:31] Speaker A: Me nostalgic because it hasn't been video games in like 15 years for you.
[00:08:34] Speaker B: Yeah, because I never. I've never really played video games as an adult. I completely cold turkey stopped video games once I became an adult, but I loved them as a teen.
We were not allowed to have them in my house, so I never owned a console through my whole life, but I was able to eventually, like, own my own computer in my room and play some computer games. And I had played console games at friends, so on the PC, you know, it was half life and stuff like that. But I fondly remember, oh, halfway, you know, an NBA Live game that I had and from downtown, all of those.
[00:09:09] Speaker A: He's on fire.
[00:09:10] Speaker B: I just listened to a great podcast. It was about the NBA Jam show with the, you know, boom. Jacalaga got, you know, with the. The. With the big arcade game.
[00:09:21] Speaker A: Awesome.
[00:09:21] Speaker B: Love that. But, yeah, any game from that area. The Grand Theft Autos and the Medal of Honor with my brother, those are pretty special.
[00:09:28] Speaker A: I wasn't going to. Now let us talk about gaming, if that was my question for question of the day, but thinking of things that I didn't really tee you up for, I thought I was teeing you up for this one. I'm going to tee us up in a different way because, guys, this is a special occasion for us.
Big explosion right there. It's our 100th episode. Okay. This is our hundredth episode as a podcast. And that's for me, that's for you, and that's for Ian.
[00:09:57] Speaker B: There we go.
[00:09:57] Speaker A: Heck, yeah. 100 episodes. So we got some different.
Some different questions from our listeners and from Ian. We got some takes from Ian, from. From, you know, the dark despair that Ian is. He's. Okay, everybody, if you're wondering, but speaking of things, I didn'.
[00:10:13] Speaker B: He's just got a life.
[00:10:14] Speaker A: You know, Kyle, last week, you and Ian kind of had a.
A bit of a quandary as to whether the packers were a good offense or not. He said they weren't. You said they're top five. He said they're, you know, 15th middle of the row and we're going to start there. I don't know if you've brought any data to go against Ian.
[00:10:40] Speaker B: No, I knew that Ian wasn't going to come, so I was saving it for next week. Wow.
[00:10:44] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay, well, I'm going to let Ian's word just echo in eternity because Ian writes to us.
I feel validated about my packers take for their offense being suspect.
Not suspect enough for him not to make it their lock of the week. I get back to his stake. Now that Tucker Kraft has a torn acl, arguably their best offensive weapon so far this year, I don't have much confidence that they will get better. They ranked 14th in total offense based on points scored, 10th in passing and 17th in rushing. Jacobs is second in TDs with 12, but ranks 14th in yards and his longest run is 19 yards, which is 78th overall.
Jacobs is averaging 3.8 yards rushing in the fourth most attempts. Also, the Lions offense is equally suspect. Please give me Ben back.
Morton is not so great.
Also, Tim DeWitt writes in, are the packers just average?
We need a cake for you. While you might not have the, you know, sheets data, give me an old fashioned take. Kyle, let's have a takeoff.
[00:12:00] Speaker B: A takeoff?
[00:12:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:01] Speaker B: What do you want me to take off? It's just you and I here.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: It. It's really awkward when you do that.
[00:12:06] Speaker B: I can't wait. I know.
[00:12:07] Speaker A: Can't look at Ian anymore.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: You can't handle it.
[00:12:10] Speaker A: Just give us a take. Come on, get spicy. You're not a take guy. I'm making you be one.
[00:12:16] Speaker B: What are you talking about? I'm not a take guy. I bring takes and every time I.
[00:12:19] Speaker A: Bring a take, you're like, according to my sources. Let me look at my to be fear.
Let me look at my stance.
[00:12:27] Speaker B: What are you doing right now? What is this?
[00:12:29] Speaker A: You do the nerd stuff. You appreciate it. I appreciate that you're a nerd.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: I bring tapes.
[00:12:34] Speaker A: Okay, Give me a taste.
[00:12:35] Speaker B: I understand that this is a podcast. The point is to bring takes place to get spicy. Nobody wants milk toast.
[00:12:40] Speaker A: Okay, Us a take.
Fight back. The people are in the Packer fandom are starting to question whether you're an owner or not.
[00:12:47] Speaker B: You know, in fact. Well, I'm not, but I am. I was actually looking forward to this conversation to be fair.
And I saw that Ian was not going to join us and so I said, okay, we'll just do this back and forth thing next week.
[00:13:02] Speaker A: Did you know Ian was going to throw something out.
[00:13:04] Speaker B: I should. Of course he wouldn't miss an opportunity because the backers had a bad week and so now we got, we've got Ian's words. We could just say, you win this round, Ian, I'm not going to respond while you're not here. And then we can't have discourse. And I don't want to steal that. So I don't want to go overboard because then if I just do that right now, we don't. What are we going to not talk about? Are we going to just repeat the same thing next week? I don't want to bore our listeners, but I will say that I'm not really on board fully with the perspective that both the DeWitts are bringing. Throwing some cold water on the Packers. I actually think they're a pretty effective unit and some of the Boomer stats that you're citing, well, they're okay, but when you look at more advanced metrics, it really suggests that on a pretty consistent basis they are a reliable offense. Now, they had a bad week. This doesn't sound like a very smart take right now after the flop that they had against Carolina this past week. There were some fluky elements to that game, some turnover issues and stuff, but otherwise it was very disappointing to see them come out and, and kind of fail to capitalize, fail to get the strong second half like they did against the Steelers the week prior to.
And then the loss of Tucker Kraft is quite a blow. One of the best tight ends in football. I'm disappointed in that, but I still think Jordan Love is playing very effective. I think that a lot of those wide receivers have developed. I think that it may not be like this flashy, fun to watch type offense, but I think that they're consistent and reliable and find ways to win. And I also think that they are getting a little too cute sometimes and not focusing on putting their opponents to bed.
I think that there's a lot of times where they're the better team and they still play too close.
And I've seen a few other teams kind of have this tendency where it looks like they're the better team and yet why is this game so close? Why can't you just put it away?
And why can't we get some consistent, great quarters in a row?
They're not blowing out their opponents, you know that like the, like I would like to see. So I'm disappointed and frustrated at times with their offense, but I still really like it. I still trust it. Give me them in a playoff game, I'll pick them over most other teams, at least in the nfc.
[00:15:12] Speaker A: Who do you got next week against them and the Eagles?
[00:15:16] Speaker B: That's one of the teams that I'm kind of intimidated by. And I do think that with the loss of Tucker Kraft we're kind of concerned with our.
What's been our primary target offensively.
And I think that the Eagles are coming off a buy, are they not?
[00:15:34] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:15:34] Speaker B: You know, so that one, I'm more inclined to think it goes Philadelphia's way.
But I wouldn't be surprised to see the packers have a bounce back game.
This, this one was really frustrating and disappointing. Micah Parsons didn't even get a quarterback pressure this whole game. What's going on there?
Disappointing. Disappointing. But every team, every team drops some, some bummer games throughout the season.
Still pretty high on this packers game team. They're still a young team. This could be a developmental year for them.
I don't think they've reached their ceiling by any means.
But I like the future and I don't want to go on too much more about that. Like.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: And I think it's fair to say that they have room to grow obviously. But I mean the Eagles have, they're a team that reminds me very similarly of the packers, the current Eagles. The Eagles currently have a firm identity as to who they are as an offense. They've only had one game of over 100 yards rushing and that was the last week, stupid.
So they've had. I mean that's. How do you do that with sake.
[00:16:40] Speaker B: One, it's another like underperforming offense for different reasons. I think it's like a stacked roster and you look at that and say how come this is close? How come you're losing these games and.
[00:16:50] Speaker A: These are close trade deadline acquisitions for them.
Hello.
[00:16:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:56] Speaker A: Defensive lineman out of the, out of the Dolphins. They got Jaden Phillips or Jalen Phillips and. And they got Jair Alexander.
[00:17:03] Speaker B: Oh. From the Ravens.
[00:17:04] Speaker A: I think the Ravens have said many of their fans have claimed he sucked this year. So they're not happy or they're not mad to lose him. But that was a big pickup over the summer. We did a pod where we led a lot some of the show with that.
[00:17:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:17] Speaker A: And now he's just gone. So see you later for a draft pick that no one's going to remember.
[00:17:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:23] Speaker A: So I, I kind of compare the Eagles to, to the packers and with that being said, I don't hear many people crying about the Eagles. I have not heard anybody say that the Eagles are just average.
Tim. I don't think that you're right on that one. So I'm sorry.
Tim also writes in Denver good or weak schedule.
I just like these like very succinct questions from Tim.
Like I really hope they're on like a notepad with like a very firm pen being written out and then taking a picture of him written them out to Ian.
[00:18:03] Speaker B: Right.
[00:18:04] Speaker A: For us.
[00:18:06] Speaker B: Both can be true.
I agree There are a number of teams. There are a number of teams in the in the NFL where both are technically true. Like this is a team that is playing well. This is a team that's showing up and appears to be well coached. That a lot of teams are. A lot of players are reaching their potential and clearly they have an identity. They have things that they are polishing and refining and yet they are also not consistently having to go up against the Titans in the NFL.
So that description fits a handful of teams who are stacking wins right now. But you got to throw respect their way. You got to even do that on a consistent basis that that qualifies you as a good team. Even if you beat just bottom tier week after week after week.
That's easier said than done. That automatically makes you one of the good teams. So if that's the question is good or easy schedule, I'm saying both. I'm saying both. For a few teams in the NFL.
[00:19:06] Speaker A: Right now, I definitely think you're going to think that about the Patriots in a few weeks. We joked about what their schedule looks like.
I think you could maybe say that about the Seattle Seahawks too. If you're going to argue about schedules and you know, things like I just think it's too early to argue schedules in my opinion.
So I just don't give that credence.
In today's NFL having four to six wins, that's a good thing right now.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: It is really good even against a bad teams to show up consistently. Both sides of the ball said was.
[00:19:39] Speaker A: Average for losing to the Carolina Panthers.
[00:19:41] Speaker B: Seahawks are a team no matter their opponent and none of them have been really Titans either.
But their defense is looking strong very consistently. It seems like they have a defensive game plan that is very strong. Their offense seems to clearly have an identity. They know what works and they're sticking to that. That is respectable. And again beating even the lower tier teams on a consistent basis and not having to go down to the wire and battle and shootouts.
[00:20:07] Speaker A: The thing that you argued about the packers not being able to do. Tim DeWitt writes in also watch out for the Seahawks. The reports on Sam Darnold's fall are greatly exaggerated. Do you think they would be doing this with Geno Smith?
Captain Gino?
[00:20:21] Speaker B: Yeah, of course.
Yeah.
[00:20:24] Speaker A: Six and two lead in the division.
[00:20:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I do. I'll stand by that.
[00:20:29] Speaker A: Okay.
I just appreciate you standing by something right there.
[00:20:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:33] Speaker A: We got some special questions from some other listeners that are 100 related.
First one, for the hundredth episode, Elliot Acateo writes, in which NFL player are you taking all time to win the hundred yard dash?
[00:20:48] Speaker B: All time. 100 dart dash.
You go first.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: All right. I'm taking Darius Hayward Bay.
I always think of him because he's one of the last fast wide receivers that the owner of the Raiders.
Remind me his name. He died. He's the old guy.
[00:21:08] Speaker B: Davis. Al Davis.
[00:21:09] Speaker A: Davis.
[00:21:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:10] Speaker A: That he's the last one of the last ones he got to draft.
[00:21:13] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:21:14] Speaker A: And I've always like. Just remember I'm like fast wide receivers that the Raiders picked. Darius Hayward Bay.
[00:21:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:21] Speaker A: So I'm going down with that. I have a second place, but I want to hear your first. You know, maybe we each get two runners on the race.
[00:21:29] Speaker B: All right, that's fine. I wouldn't have encyclopedic knowledge here like or a lot of great mind.
I'm not thinking of a lot of great players immediately, but a quote that comes to mind. I watched the, the man in. The man in the arena. Doc and Tom said there's wide receiver speed and then there's defensive back speed and then there's Randy Moss speed who.
So you gotta put. You gotta put that guy in the conversation right now. Usually most football games the fastest men on the field are playing in the defensive backfield. Those cornerbacks and safeties are unreal on another level than most of the other players. When you've got a wide receiver who can outpace them, that's rare and that's special.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: My second pick is CJ2K. Chris Johnson.
[00:22:21] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:22:21] Speaker A: Running back out of the East Carolina University honorable mention to Dante Hall.
[00:22:27] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:22:27] Speaker A: Return punt return specialist of the Chiefs.
[00:22:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:30] Speaker A: How about you? Your second pick.
[00:22:32] Speaker B: I mean there's been some fast contemporary guys. You know. Xavier Worthy broke the combine record and Tyreek Hill is shredding defenses in his prime years.
I feel like they deserve mentions.
[00:22:44] Speaker A: I can agree with that. I like, I like those as picks for you. I hope that answers your question there, Elliot. Our next question comes from Jamie Hesslaw. Which Hamilton character would you best would be the best NFL coach and the best NFL player?
[00:23:01] Speaker B: Lafayette.
[00:23:02] Speaker A: He. He. He texted me on the side and why is the answer to both of those?
Mercury, Hercules Mulligan.
[00:23:10] Speaker B: Hercules Mulligan.
[00:23:12] Speaker A: I. I thought that was. Tell me about why I. Lafayette, as he talks really fast at the podium, he'd be really good as a coach.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: No, I think he was a brilliant military mind.
He was. He brought the reinforcements. He was a brilliant schemer. He had the right connections and brought people together. A motivator, a leader.
So, yeah, the charisma, you know.
[00:23:35] Speaker A: All right, Coach, I'm going with Eliza. Those eyes get me to do anything.
[00:23:38] Speaker B: Okay. All right. That's fair, player. Yeah. I can't say no to this.
[00:23:43] Speaker A: George Washington.
George Washington is gonna dominate. Those wooden teeth are going to be chomping at the.
To dominate the football field.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:23:53] Speaker A: I'm telling you. Okay. I heard he's got a cannon, too.
[00:23:57] Speaker B: Oh, it's a rumor. I heard.
[00:24:01] Speaker A: All right. I like Good Hamilton.
You know, crossover for our podcast tonight.
[00:24:06] Speaker B: Oh, that's great. Yeah, I'm there for it now.
[00:24:10] Speaker A: We're going to get to the Vikings take. For those of you that are wondering, we're 24 minutes and haven't talked much about the Lions losing. That's because Ian's not here.
But let's talk about it right now. Justin Matson are at our on the field correspondent for. Thank you, Justin, for being in the end zone for the game winning. I have video of it.
[00:24:29] Speaker B: This is crazy.
[00:24:30] Speaker A: Crowd going crazy and then it gets quiet and you just hear Justin go, what's that? So I'm talking about.
[00:24:35] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:24:35] Speaker A: Loved it. Oh, my gosh.
[00:24:37] Speaker B: I gotta hear from Justin.
[00:24:38] Speaker A: Justin writes in which player made you fall in love?
[00:24:41] Speaker B: What? This is what we get. You went to the game, Justin. What have you got for us?
You're a correspondent and you just ask us some random out of the blue question.
Oh, you're supposed to give us something we don't have. You were there.
[00:24:55] Speaker A: My answer's Brian Erlacher. It was my first jersey I ever had. It was actually the Orange Bears jersey. You know, the throwbacks 54. Brian Erlacher.
But now I can't really say that because he has hair now. Right. He went to the dark side. Yeah.
[00:25:10] Speaker B: It's a good choice. It's a good choice.
[00:25:12] Speaker A: Who made you fall in love with his farf?
[00:25:14] Speaker B: Of course.
[00:25:15] Speaker A: That fraud.
We both have frauds.
[00:25:19] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, those were. Those were good times. He was fun to watch. He was a character gunslinger. He was the Jamie. I mean, the Jameis Winston of the Jamie of the time. The prankster. Always cracking jokes, always pulling pranks. On other players in the locker room. Always getting reporters to laugh about something. Like, he was just, just like Jamis from the south with this certain sense of humor. Always got a one liner at every time. Always ripping it down, always going for the aggressive offense.
[00:25:50] Speaker A: I haven't seen the smile in a while.
[00:25:51] Speaker B: It made football fun to watch. I was like, this is cool. I really got into it back in those days.
[00:25:56] Speaker A: Well, speaking of, you know, Ian feeling vindicated about takes that he had. My take was that the Vikings were going to be the upset last week. And guess what happened, buddy?
[00:26:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:26:07] Speaker A: Boom. Good call. Thank you. Yeah. Waiting for you to say this whole time.
[00:26:10] Speaker B: I respect that. And Justin, I just wanted more, I wanted more from, from Justin for after. After that. Not even a comment about his quarterback. He had a lot to say last week and now he puts up and we got to hear from you, Justin.
[00:26:23] Speaker A: He did. I did send a video of Tom Brady interviewing J.J. mcCarthy after the game. And the only response I got from Justin today, he's been a busy man, partying, enjoying this win.
[00:26:36] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:26:37] Speaker A: That's his only response was, I can't believe the goat did an interview with Tom Brady.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: That is great.
Yeah. Michigan produces the best quarterbacks.
Let it be known. Let it be known.
[00:26:52] Speaker A: Ask Chad Henny.
The one and only Abigail Mauer writes in this super bowl will be won by the packers over the Lions.
[00:27:02] Speaker B: Thanks, Abigail.
She's so cute.
[00:27:05] Speaker A: She's awesome. She could do no wrong.
But sorry, Abigail, you are wrong here. They're in the same conference.
Sebastian Mauer writes in my top three quarterbacks, Mahomes, Jackson and Goff.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: Oh, who's gonna argue?
[00:27:22] Speaker A: I think we're missing Josh Allen in there. Okay.
[00:27:26] Speaker B: I knew you'd bring it because you're such a fan.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: I'm huge. I actually got a bill shirt.
[00:27:30] Speaker B: Yeah, you do. I haven't seen it put it on recently. Oh, really?
[00:27:33] Speaker A: Recently.
[00:27:34] Speaker B: Wow. You've worn it.
[00:27:35] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:27:36] Speaker B: Okay. That's great.
[00:27:37] Speaker A: Thank you. That's wonderful. When your voice changes in its inflection.
[00:27:40] Speaker B: Did you watch the game yesterday?
[00:27:42] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It was a great game.
[00:27:44] Speaker B: Always is.
[00:27:45] Speaker A: By the way, did you see that huge hit on My Homes? That was pretty sick going out of bounds.
[00:27:50] Speaker B: Which one?
[00:27:52] Speaker A: He had one where he's throwing off his back leg and just got absolutely pummeled.
[00:27:56] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[00:27:56] Speaker A: Yeah. So I was like, whoa, God, if I take that hit, I, I, I'm dead.
[00:28:00] Speaker B: You always back me up with your people when you do this little bounce.
[00:28:05] Speaker A: People come back for the ASMR of our show.
And I Hope that Ian. I hope people are like, like Ian isn't here to do that and I gotta pick the slack up somewhere.
[00:28:17] Speaker B: Yeah, you're doing it.
[00:28:18] Speaker A: Thank you. Thank you. In terms of his answer, I think you're wrong, but I think, I think making Goff an argument for golf. Megan Daniel Jones. An argument right now for this year. Okay. This year, the performance of a quarterback.
[00:28:38] Speaker B: Oh, man. Wow.
Indiana Jones. I don't know, Jim.
I don't know about that. I don't know about that.
[00:28:44] Speaker A: Yeah, probably not, right?
Here's a guy.
Here's a guy. Eric Giannunzio. G writes in, by the way. This is his second prompt. He wrote the first one for me. It kind of fell flat, so he actually redid his question. Oh, 100th episode. Congrats, guys. Love the pod. You have joined the ranks over other greats to make it to the hundred episodes like the office, Seinfeld, 30 Rock, friends, and of course, my favorite, Parks and Rec.
[00:29:15] Speaker B: Love it.
[00:29:15] Speaker A: Literally.
[00:29:16] Speaker B: Gee, you got good taste.
[00:29:18] Speaker A: Here's a question. You have a hundred dollars and every NFL player is $25. Which four guys do you start your team with? I'm thinking a draft style. Marshall. That Marshall.
[00:29:29] Speaker B: We've got four pick. Is it active players only?
[00:29:32] Speaker A: Only I actually asked. Okay, we had to go active. We gotta go active or all time. He said active.
[00:29:38] Speaker B: So, okay, you go first. You get. You get the first pick. You're the young guy and you're doing all the work of running master control here. I'm lazy and getting to sit back here and just talk into the microphone. You have to push the buttons. I love it. By the way, you don't get enough props and respect for being the guy who shows up.
[00:29:53] Speaker A: Hold on, they're applauding me.
Thank you.
[00:29:57] Speaker B: Plugs into the soundboard, runs GarageBand. Gets this thing mixed and published on our pod platform.
You don't get enough respect.
[00:30:04] Speaker A: You know what? I am, I'll tell you this right now. I'm a words of affirmation kind of guy.
[00:30:08] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:09] Speaker A: Appreciate you, my friend.
[00:30:10] Speaker B: All right. All right.
[00:30:11] Speaker A: My first overall draft pick is going to be the one, the only Arch Manning. No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding. No.
[00:30:20] Speaker B: Put your money where your mouth is and pick Indiana Jones right now.
[00:30:23] Speaker A: It's not the third pick, otherwise I would. Yeah, gosh, you know, it's $25.
[00:30:29] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:31] Speaker A: Yeah, but just imagine you get four players like me. Not saying a certain player could make everybody mad.
[00:30:38] Speaker B: I know. That's the point. That's the point of podcasting okay. Sports podcasting.
[00:30:43] Speaker A: We're going to play right now.
[00:30:44] Speaker B: We have failed at podcasting. If no one listens to this and gets upset. Okay, carry on.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: The team that we're playing, I want you to imagine they are no longer in the jersey associated with their demise or success.
I want you to imagine they came to a rec football game and they're wearing the blue jersey with the football and white letters.
[00:31:07] Speaker B: Okay, where are you going with this?
[00:31:08] Speaker A: Because there's a lot of, like, I wouldn't say choking that's been associated with. I don't want to get testy. We don't have Ian here to separate us.
[00:31:17] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:31:19] Speaker A: But there's been some joking.
I'm going with Lamar Jackson.
[00:31:24] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. So I respect that. I like that pick, by the way.
[00:31:29] Speaker A: If you're wondering if I'm gonna go second pick a quarterback as well, like Tim DeWitt did in our fantasy draft, take a look at him in the right now. See whether he should.
Giving us.
[00:31:39] Speaker B: Calling people out, man. Well, he's not here to defend himself.
[00:31:43] Speaker A: He's ever here. He's all, when is he here? I'm talking about Tim. Do it, Tim.
[00:31:47] Speaker B: Defend yourself. Maybe he had a strategy. He maybe set himself up with. With for trade value or something. I don't know.
[00:31:53] Speaker A: He did.
[00:31:54] Speaker B: He did.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: He goes, I'm cornering the market on quarterbacks.
All right, dude.
I remember sitting next to him and hearing it. I was like, you know what? Bold strategy. Let's see how it pays off.
[00:32:03] Speaker B: I love that. I love that. It was great. It really was great to see Lamar come back against the Dolphins on Thursday. Granted, not the hardest defensive opponent, but look like poop. I mean, just making it look easy.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: Like butter in a knife.
[00:32:19] Speaker B: It's. First of all, it was just great to see him back playing football again. I hate it when he gets injured and seeing a player of that caliber just missing games.
[00:32:29] Speaker A: I'm excited for them to have their first all black jerseys. They. I've heard the joke that, like, all black jerseys on night games for the Ravens, add like four points at.
[00:32:37] Speaker B: @ all.
[00:32:38] Speaker A: Right? Like, to any Vegas line.
[00:32:40] Speaker B: I loved watching it. I love it. Just when I watch. I am routinely just amazed at what he has become.
[00:32:49] Speaker A: Totally.
[00:32:49] Speaker B: He is a player who has progressed through his career. Think about what he was when he started this dynamic talent and then got better and better.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: That happened and.
[00:32:59] Speaker B: And then did it again and has evolved as a player. Like, how did that guy. How did that guy. If you would have told me a few years ago, you haven't seen a.
[00:33:06] Speaker A: Lot of those since, like, I mean, going across sports like LeBron has gotten better after an MVP, and not a lot of people get better after an mvp. Who's your second? You filibustered enough.
[00:33:17] Speaker B: Who's your first overall draft? Just seeing him be the pocket passer that he is.
[00:33:20] Speaker A: You're jealous.
I understand.
[00:33:22] Speaker B: I mean, might have gone there. Are we. Do you know if this is like drafting for your future or for a season?
[00:33:28] Speaker A: Don't overthink it.
[00:33:29] Speaker B: Overthink it. You know, I feel like I gotta. You've already picked your quarterback, so you're not gonna pick another quarterback. Maybe so I don't feel like I need to pick quarterback with my first pick. I need to go somewhere else.
[00:33:41] Speaker A: Ian would have definitely picked a quarterback.
[00:33:43] Speaker B: I know, I know. But my strategy is like, I'll just. I'll just pick quarterback last because I could end. You're not gonna roster two quarterbacks.
So now I gotta get either, like my wide receiver or my edge. The next expensive positions.
And I'm liking.
I'm liking edge.
And I'm torn here.
I want to go either Miles Garrett or Micah Parsons. I think I'm going the ladder. I think that Micah Parsons, a little younger, a little more explosive, incredible potential or like what I got there. I'm taking him with my first pick.
[00:34:17] Speaker A: I like the pick. To be honest with you. I'm a little surprised that you went that way.
[00:34:22] Speaker B: Really? What did you expect? Different position or a different player?
[00:34:25] Speaker A: Well, honestly, I.
I just don't know.
[00:34:31] Speaker B: Your, your, your value positions. Quarterback and wide receiver and edge and.
And left tackle. You know what?
[00:34:39] Speaker A: You're really gonna go with him, though, over Miles Garrett?
[00:34:42] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, it's tough. It's tough. That's a. That's a tricky one. Miles Garrett is a game wrecker and has been with incredible consistency. But I like what I see from Micah. I think he. He rallies the team.
I think he's got a good attitude. I think his best years are still ahead.
So I'm into it. I'm sticking with it. All right, so you're taking Miles.
[00:35:12] Speaker A: I'm going Jamar Chase.
[00:35:13] Speaker B: That's a good choice. I like that.
[00:35:16] Speaker A: Just kidding. I'm going Jetta. Come on. That's the real wide receiver one out there. He's doing wide receiver one. I'm talking about Justin Jefferson, baby.
[00:35:25] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[00:35:26] Speaker A: The number one wide receiver in the NFL. Don't let anybody tell you differently. He doesn't need a quarterback that tries to slick his hair back like he's Cool. And then gets injured five weeks into the season.
[00:35:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:35] Speaker A: Everyone, you know, doesn't talk about how great it is because he got to the super bowl one time.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: Right.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: The Mark Bulger with better hair. Okay, go ahead. Okay.
[00:35:45] Speaker B: So you took your wide receiver.
I'm gonna go.
[00:35:50] Speaker A: Then.
[00:35:51] Speaker B: In that case, I'm going Penne Seul.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. I hate you. I'm so mad.
[00:35:57] Speaker B: I want a dominant tackle protecting my quarterback.
[00:36:04] Speaker A: I hate you.
[00:36:05] Speaker B: Yeah.
The strategy here. I know you're not going to repeat positions, so I know that those are safe.
[00:36:12] Speaker A: I'm going Quentin Nelson.
[00:36:14] Speaker B: Quinn Nelson. Okay.
[00:36:16] Speaker A: I love. I love watching him chip block on players when nobody goes towards him, and then he just helps out his center or right tackle and just kills a grown man.
[00:36:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:29] Speaker A: So that would be my. My next pick. It's just. I love just watching him as pure violence.
And that takes me back to just what I feel like football should be.
[00:36:39] Speaker B: I'm jealous of the JJ pick. That's a. That's a good one. I absolutely would have taken Justin Jefferson. Thank you. I'm watching him.
[00:36:48] Speaker A: Boy, Justin.
[00:36:49] Speaker B: He reminds me of watching Prime Odell with the just athleticism, like getting it into another. Jumping above other people.
[00:36:57] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:36:59] Speaker B: Just ability to do anything. It feels like he's on another level than the people around him.
[00:37:04] Speaker A: Can I make a ruling real quick before. Actually. Give us your last pick, and then I'm gonna. I have a question.
[00:37:09] Speaker B: I have two more picks.
[00:37:10] Speaker A: Give us your next pick, and then I have a question.
[00:37:13] Speaker B: Okay. I should probably go.
Let's just get my wide receiver out of the way, and I'll take Jamar Chase.
[00:37:20] Speaker A: Okay. My question is, can we have a fun pick at the end just for SMGs?
[00:37:27] Speaker B: Ah. Like, forget about value.
[00:37:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:29] Speaker B: Just the person that you want on your team.
[00:37:30] Speaker A: We want them.
[00:37:31] Speaker B: Yes. I like that.
[00:37:32] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:37:33] Speaker B: We should.
[00:37:34] Speaker A: All right, My final pick.
I'm taking Miles Garrett. Come on.
[00:37:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:37:40] Speaker A: There to me.
[00:37:40] Speaker B: Duh.
[00:37:41] Speaker A: He. He absolutely obliterated a person's head with his own helmet.
[00:37:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:45] Speaker A: I'm all for that. My team is just violent.
[00:37:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it is.
[00:37:49] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:37:50] Speaker B: Just him on your team, automatically. You're like a top 10 defense.
[00:37:54] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:37:55] Speaker B: You can have scrubs all over the rest of the field.
I'll round up my roster with Patrick Mahomes.
[00:38:00] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: Imagine that.
[00:38:02] Speaker A: Well, I hate to tell you, eighth overall.
You thought I wasn't going quarterback twice.
I'm going Jamie Winston.
I mean, Jameis Winston. We're having crab legs for the rest of the season. We are eating good I'm talking about W's, wings. Whatever you talk about, this guy is going to talk. Imagine him going up to Lamar Jackson and giving him a pep talk. He might have the best game of his whole career.
[00:38:24] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:38:25] Speaker A: He might have a quadruple double as a football player.
[00:38:27] Speaker B: Yeah, I like that. I want him in the locker room.
I want him in my life. I want him.
[00:38:34] Speaker A: This is where we're here. This is why we're here.
[00:38:36] Speaker B: I want him to retire so we can, like, go into broadcasting or media or something.
[00:38:40] Speaker A: So it's all gonna be downhill from there. We're gonna just. They're gonna throw too much at us.
[00:38:43] Speaker B: Come. Oh.
[00:38:44] Speaker A: Like we do. We get good Jamis right now because we don't hear it all the time.
[00:38:49] Speaker B: I don't know. I feel. Give him, Give him like a talk show or something like that.
[00:38:53] Speaker A: All right, let's hear your fun pick.
[00:38:55] Speaker B: My fun pick.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: You're just, you're happy they're on the team.
They just make you smile at the thought of them being on your team. Dan Campbell, I knew you were gonna. Gosh, if I could have made your picks before you, I would have done really well at picking what you were gonna.
[00:39:13] Speaker B: Really? I'm that predictable?
[00:39:14] Speaker A: No, it's just more like I, I, I kind of got you figured out by now.
[00:39:18] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:39:19] Speaker A: You're not predictable. Don't let.
[00:39:20] Speaker B: I wonder if anyone was surprised by our choices or was this like a. Just a.
[00:39:24] Speaker A: Everyone's like, number one. How about number two? Number two? How about number one? That's kind of how we went. Were you thinking that's what happened? Yeah.
[00:39:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:39:32] Speaker A: All right. Well, we went. That's why I had to throw in the fun question at the end.
[00:39:37] Speaker B: What's the fun question?
[00:39:38] Speaker A: The fun of James and Dan Campbell. Right. We need to make our team a little bit different.
[00:39:42] Speaker B: We do.
[00:39:43] Speaker A: We have a couple big news things that we need to talk about. And I just have a question. Do you think that there's going to be a. A big transaction that happens in the NFL trade deadline? It's tomorrow.
[00:39:55] Speaker B: Jerry said they already made a trade. Like, Shut up, Jerry.
[00:39:59] Speaker A: I can't listen. I hope they don't trade for anybody. I hope. Jerry Jones said they have one of the biggest trades going to change in the. Change their team, and he's going to immediately be on the field.
I am praying, praying they don't get a trade now.
[00:40:16] Speaker B: Yeah. I hope it falls through.
[00:40:20] Speaker A: I'd be so happy. But then you just, you know, talk about, like, oil money and stuff and just have that Southern accent, we just all forget about it.
[00:40:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: Twinkle, twangle.
[00:40:28] Speaker B: I know, it's so maddening.
[00:40:29] Speaker A: What do you wanna, what do you want to see happen? Like, do you want to see the Dolphins, like full implode? Get rid of everybody, See a waddle, get rid of Tyreek?
Do you want to see Garrett Wilson get off the Jets? Do you want to see.
[00:40:44] Speaker B: Sure. Right? Yeah. Chris Olave could move, you know, to a team that needs, like, it is a point of the season where I.
[00:40:51] Speaker A: Like Brian Robinson From Brian Thomas Jr. Brian Thomas Jr. I'm sorry, from the Jaguars.
[00:40:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:59] Speaker A: That's a name I've been seeing.
[00:41:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm doubting it. They're not out of the mix yet.
But this is a point of season where I tend to really like seeing teams just fully accept and lean into their fate. Like, you know, when a team says, hey, we've got a chance here, let's just, let's go for it, let's mortgage our future, let's try and do this now. I love to see that. Conversely, I also like to see another team kind of fold.
[00:41:33] Speaker A: And I don't hear you say that a lot, Kyle.
[00:41:36] Speaker B: I mean, just effectively say, we know what's going on here. We're not kidding ourselves. We're not going to lie to our fans. We're not going to go out there with some charade and say, this might work. We're going to say, no, we've got a real legitimate grown up plan for our future and we're executing that and we're going to try and make the best of a tough situation. I actually like to see that. If a team knows that this is not their year and they kind of lean into their future plan and say, we've got a vision that's going to take some time and effort to execute and so let's make it happen.
Let's get whatever we can for these players before they go on the free agency market.
Let's see what we've got to target in this upcoming draft for the play, ways we want to fill out our roster. Let's get the cap space we need to make the moves we want in the off season.
Let's talk, let's figure out a way to make this an attractive place for the next head coach.
How.
[00:42:31] Speaker A: How about a team like the Dolphins who just fired their gm, who are unloading talent off of their team, and who rumors are having are out there that the GM they may hire, the owner, may force to keep the coach and quarterback combo, that's not. That's like. Feels like a riddle for coach that we have said has lost the locker room. The quarterback who has said, I'm too short to see over my line and I'm not as good as my divisional opponent. And Josh Allen, you. How many times do you hear Mahomes go up and say, justin Herbert's got a better, better arm than me right now?
You would never.
[00:43:14] Speaker B: No, no, no, no.
[00:43:14] Speaker A: You would never.
[00:43:15] Speaker B: What are you doing? Like, what are you doing? Did you get hit in the head a couple times?
[00:43:19] Speaker A: If you saw Tua in McDaniel's back.
[00:43:22] Speaker B: Next year, I'd say that this is a franchise without direction.
[00:43:27] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:43:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:30] Speaker A: I will laugh, I think, for potentially five minutes straight on our podcast.
[00:43:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
You teams have bad years and that's okay. As a team, you can. You can make a plan and it doesn't work. And that's okay as long as you accept it and don't go into the future in denial about that.
[00:43:51] Speaker A: But the tricky thing about the Dolphins is they came in with some of the worst cornerbacks and defensive backs on the. In the NFL and they said, we are not signing anybody. We don't even want Eli Apple. Right?
What?
So I'm. I'm going to two different sides of the pendulum of a team that doesn't know who they are to the teams that do know who they are. I'll tell you one thing I would like to see. I would really like to see Chris Olave get traded to the Buffalo Bills.
[00:44:20] Speaker B: I like that. I never actually heard that trademarked before. There's a couple.
[00:44:23] Speaker A: Myers being a potential target for the Bills as well.
[00:44:27] Speaker B: Good one. A good one.
[00:44:28] Speaker A: I could like. I would like seeing that. That kind of reminds me of like a route running like Amari Cooper. He came to the Bills, but wasn't that impactful. Obviously a little bit younger. I think of like a handful of games he was decent in. But sure, I'd like to see a more impactful move on a trade deadline. When we are in the transaction business.
We all are. Hope trafficking. Just like why it's the reason why we love the draft and NFL free agency and.
[00:44:51] Speaker B: Right.
Yeah, that's. That's really what I like to see. The thing that turns me off is teams being either in den or. Or just lying to us and saying, like, this might work or we have a plan, when clearly you don't.
[00:45:05] Speaker A: The Cowboys.
[00:45:06] Speaker B: No, you. This is the time where you either become a buyer or a seller and just make the best of your situation.
[00:45:13] Speaker A: And it's interesting Our last biggest news is Jaden Daniels. Jane Daniels had a dislocated elbow yesterday. Terribly graphic injury.
Did you hear about the stat that involved his injury yesterday?
[00:45:29] Speaker B: No.
[00:45:29] Speaker A: Did you know that him and RG3, their injuries occurred in the same stadium on the same yard line, both on second down against the same team?
[00:45:38] Speaker B: Are you kidding? No kidding. That's bizarre.
[00:45:40] Speaker A: That's nuts. Gee, that's nuts. Yeah. So. But it's. Is that field cursed?
[00:45:50] Speaker B: I couldn't tell you. I don't know.
That's a lot.
[00:45:53] Speaker A: Alex Smith broke his leg there.
Wow.
[00:45:56] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:45:57] Speaker A: Okay. Very bad. I mean these are very like life changing injuries potentially. Right, Right. So can't go without saying one of the best young quarterbacks is injured for the foreseeable future.
[00:46:08] Speaker B: So for the second time this season. What like this is such a crash back to earth for that fan base. I really genuinely feel for them for as high as they got last year when hot seat.
I wouldn't go that far.
[00:46:20] Speaker A: I like to push it out.
[00:46:22] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Injury injuries don't often precipitate seat seat warmth. But you know, just to see like how exuberant that fan base was invigorated again last year for the first time in many, many years. And then to just crash, crash this year and have such a disappointing season.
[00:46:40] Speaker A: The only other thing I want to add on here is there was a play yesterday by the Bears where they had a motion. They put the tight end under center. He took the ball, hiked it to the quarterback. He had a throwback to the tight end who grabbed the snap and the tight end threw a crosser to a wide receiver across the field. Wow. Like Ben Johnson's.
[00:46:59] Speaker B: Ben Johnson's in his bag.
[00:47:01] Speaker A: Oh man, he's in his bag. So I enjoyed seeing that. Do we got as as much as everybody wants to hear about a fantasy team that's like nobody likes hearing about their co workers fantasy team that they're not involved in but everyone wants to talk about theirs. Do you have a fancy update for us right now?
[00:47:17] Speaker B: Yeah. And I feel like we've got everyone who is in our fantasy league is a listener of this pod.
[00:47:24] Speaker A: That's good.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: A loyal fan. So some of you are hearing about your own standings and this season we've got Ian still on top. Even with taking an L to me this week, he's still going to be in a comfortable lead. Ian alone out in the front of the pack with a pretty strong team.
I'm taking him down to officially end up in the winning column. Finally. I've Been on a heater Very much so. I'm on a hot streak right now, so I'm about to go five and four, but I'm still in the middle of the pack. You're about to go five and four, so you and I are still in the middle.
Right under Ian.
Rick and G are both about to go six and three, I think.
[00:48:07] Speaker A: Correct.
Yep. G's got a comfortable win right here as well.
[00:48:10] Speaker B: So a game behind Ian.
Down at the bottom, we've got emma Reedsma and Mr. DeWitt. Mr. DeWitt. Not a good year. I'm very surprised and disappointed with it.
[00:48:22] Speaker A: I mean, Rick is actually going to take an L right now, by the way. Potentially. He's got one more player left.
[00:48:30] Speaker B: Oh, how interesting. Justin might be taking him down.
[00:48:34] Speaker A: Could be an L for him. Him.
[00:48:36] Speaker B: Hopefully. We've got an interesting fantasy season shaping up, but it really looks like Ian's got the. The top marks all around this season. Although I like your team.
[00:48:46] Speaker A: Thank you. Some might say they need to keep their eye out for it.
What do you think?
[00:48:53] Speaker B: I would say. I would say as much. Yeah.
[00:48:55] Speaker A: Well, that's all we got. Oh, our picks. You know our picks. Why would we skip our picks? Kyle, did you know that Ian had an awful week of picks?
[00:49:04] Speaker B: I'm really bummed about that.
I've really. I've had higher hopes for Ian. Ian started kind of strong this season. We thought maybe this would be his year.
[00:49:12] Speaker A: I know I laugh, but I actually do feel a bit bad for it.
His lock of the week is the Denver Broncos over the Raiders.
[00:49:18] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:49:19] Speaker A: Real spicy out there. That's why it's a lock, though. I'm taking Seattle over Arizona.
Arizona.
Curry might be coming back next week, though, so I could be eating those words. Yeah. How about your lock?
[00:49:31] Speaker B: My lock? I'm locking in, actually. The Lions over the Commanders.
[00:49:35] Speaker A: Yeah. Obviously.
[00:49:36] Speaker B: Commander's starting to back up quarterback Mariota.
[00:49:39] Speaker A: Growing up right in front of our eyes.
[00:49:40] Speaker B: Lions bouncing back after that loss. I feel like this is.
[00:49:43] Speaker A: Give us your upset. Who's coming back to reality?
[00:49:45] Speaker B: You know, I've got a feeling the Falcons are going to surprise some people and upset those Indiana Colts, Indianapolis Coles.
[00:49:52] Speaker A: The Indian, Indiana Jones.
[00:49:54] Speaker B: Right.
[00:49:55] Speaker A: My upset will be Jacksonville over Houston. Somehow, Houston is a favorite in that.
[00:50:01] Speaker B: Interesting. And they're gonna be streaky.
[00:50:03] Speaker A: How is that up, down.
[00:50:04] Speaker B: Houston's gonna be starting Davis Mills potentially.
[00:50:07] Speaker A: Potentially with 1 1/2 points.
[00:50:08] Speaker B: CJ Stroud and concussion protocol correct.
[00:50:10] Speaker A: Yep.
And Ian's upset is he has the Cleveland Browns beating the New York Jets And I don't think how are the.
[00:50:17] Speaker B: New York jets favored over anyone?
[00:50:19] Speaker A: Yeah, maybe they just keep watching on loop the.
Their coach doing the dance on the sideline, maybe. Yeah.
[00:50:26] Speaker B: Oh, this team. This team is good.
[00:50:29] Speaker A: Yeah. They've got something, maybe. Anything you want to close out with our listeners before we get going, Kyle?
[00:50:34] Speaker B: Listeners, we. This is technically, mathematically speaking, our 100th episode, but we really want to celebrate it a little bit bigger next week. We've got our cohort Ian returning to the studio a week from today.
So if you're listening to this pod, know that next week is going to be kind of another tribute to a hundred plus episodes of the Point after. We were just baby podcasters a few years ago and now we're seasoned veterans finding our groove, figuring out our identity and who we are.
[00:51:04] Speaker A: What was the number of episodes that a podcast. Normally most podcasts, if they make it past that, it's like if you do.
[00:51:09] Speaker B: More than 20 episodes, you're in the top 1% of podcasts. Yeah. Yeah, that's correct. Yeah. Most shows do not do that many episodes.
[00:51:17] Speaker A: I can't stand listening to their voice that much.
[00:51:20] Speaker B: It's a lot of work. It's a lot of work. And you know, there's a lot of shows that do short runs just a season or something like that. See where it goes. It's make it nerdy. It happens. You know, that's not a dead show by any means. But we haven't hit our 20th episode for that for that program. But yeah, listeners. So I want to do a call out, hit us up commission.
[00:51:39] Speaker A: Reeds must we need Emily, don't make me come to the scheduling meeting that we're going to have in a month or two.
[00:51:45] Speaker B: Oh, you cross paths. Yeah.
[00:51:48] Speaker A: This is the only person I've ever had say you Marshall has off from the point after.
[00:51:53] Speaker B: Never forget.
[00:51:53] Speaker A: Yeah, welcome to the point after. Yeah, I was like, yes, I am. Thank you very much. We need the reads, Ms. We need.
Who else do we need?
[00:52:02] Speaker B: So what I'm looking for reflect is find it in your heart listener to reach out to us either with your scorching takes, your great questions that we know we can count on you for, or a willingness to be a live caller on the show because we have that.
We have that capability and we've done it before and we love it. So if you want to live, call Eastern time zone Monday around 8:30ish, we're in the studio and get on the pod and give us your take live or send a recording or something. Else to make us smile and celebrate this historic milestone of podcasting.
See what you got. See what you got, listeners. So we're gonna go big next week.
[00:52:46] Speaker A: Want to thank you for listening to the point. After getting 100 episodes in, do we have any popular number one hundreds in the world?
Huh?
No, we can't have hundreds.
What about the hundred the commission did write in? Hold on, hold on. The commission wrote in breaking the.
[00:53:09] Speaker B: The commission during the pod, texted me with his Niners update. Can we. Can we throw this in as a bonus? Okay, Can.
[00:53:17] Speaker A: Hold on, hold on. Can you give me. I'm gonna do the sound effects for it, and then I want you to get your best commission voice ready. Okay?
[00:53:26] Speaker B: This is the commission report I'm going to do. Okay. Oh, you're going to do that.
[00:53:30] Speaker A: It's time for your commission report.
Here's Adam Silver with the commission report.
[00:53:38] Speaker B: All right, so we've got too busy to record today. Did have these notes. Nice bounce back on the game, Roan. The offense played well, especially with the run game clicking. Mac Jones played an exceptional game, and it looks like the team will need him to continue doing so with Pretty apparently nowhere near being ready to return. Pinero is a stud again. What a pickup. Thought we'd get through a game without a significant injury, but no such luck. Michael looks to be finished for the year. Yet another nasty casualty in that cursed. On that cursed turf. Big game next week against the Rams. Be interesting to see if management will pursue help on that D line before the trade deadline on Tuesday. If not, they may have to hold an open tryout to fill out the roster. Hashtag ragtag gang.
[00:54:20] Speaker A: Hashtag the commission report.
[00:54:23] Speaker B: This has been the commission report.
Okay, thank you, Adam.
[00:54:28] Speaker A: Commish.
You got in. You got in just by the skin of your teeth. And with that, we have these words for you.
Just kidding. We have these words for you right here.
Commission, we want to thank you personally for writing in all of our loyal listeners and subscribers. The people, people that don't listen as like on time, but a month later will be like, dude, I really enjoyed that conversation about Halloween candy.
You're my people.
The people that listen to the first 20 minutes of the pod and know that they don't care about football. You're also my people.
But the people that are absolutely pulling their hair out over a lost parlay.
I'm with you.
I'm currently up $5 this week.
J. Jetta and the Vikings bringing up the DraftKings balance.
You really don't have anything to finish with here. Kyle.
[00:55:29] Speaker B: You know, I lost 20 bucks in a bet to Patrick in my other fantasy league.
[00:55:33] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:55:34] Speaker B: Yeah, he talked me into. I don't like putting money on the line for these things. We were head to head this week, and I said, Put 20 bucks on it. And I agreed, reluctantly.
[00:55:41] Speaker A: Let's go, Patrick.
[00:55:42] Speaker B: He beat me.
